Unforgettable!!! Hints of Toni Morrison's Beloved and Octavia E. Butler's Kindred. Four women with great power linked together to protect their people through the ages. Slow build up to an explosive end. A book to reread just to get those parts you missed the last time. #MagicalRealism And my last for #ReadHarder2021.

Butterfinger #RoaringWolf @Roary47 @Littlewolf1 I am going to use this for Don't judge a cover. The people who are being protected are scared of the women's powers and see them as monsters or witches. 3y
Butterfinger #BBRC @LibrarianRyan I think this will definitely work for #GunpowderFantasy the exslaves fight with their voodun powers and guns. 3y

My thoughts will be completely dominated by this case study for a long while. Brilliant writing. Hard to read at times, but the medical research of the roller coaster - therapy works, now medication, then nurture, nope nature is the cause was fascinating to me. Every member of this family was written with humanity and empathy, even when discussing the horrors. I appreciate the honesty that went into this book.

TiredLibrarian Love, love, love this book. Agree with you that it's well researched and shows great empathy for all involved. ❤ 3y

Very enjoyable!!! I never realized the fusion of the #Philippines (caused by colonialism and trade)- native, Spanish, Mexican, Chinese, and American. I love reading cookbooks that include family memories of food. Fun!! #ReadingAsia2021 @BarbaraBB @Librarybelle #ReadHarder2021 #foodmemoirbyAOC

Librarybelle I enjoy cookbooks like that too! 3y

#BookReport @Cinfhen

Completed Barracoon, A Place at the Table, and Leaving Coy's Hill.

#WeeklyForecast I know it is far-fetched, but this is what I want - Focus on finishing #ReadHarder2021 with these three.

Finish The Night Masquerade #SciFiSeptember @Roary47 @Littlewolf1 #BBRC #Afrofuturism @LibrarianRyan

Begin Abducted #BuddyRead with @Andrew65 @EadieB @AnneCecilie

Listening to A Killer in King's Cove #newyearwhodis

EadieB Great list! 3y
Cinfhen I really loved this book, even though it was brutal at times 3y
TiredLibrarian @Butterfinger Agree with @Cinfhen - This might be my favorite nonfic read of the year; really well written and researched, but very disturbing at times. Also loved Lost Girls by this author. 3y
Cinfhen We read it for bookclub @TiredLibrarian and it was one of our best discussions ever. Our group who rarely agrees was unanimous about Hidden Valley being a 5 star read. It was perfectly researched and written 3y
LibrarianRyan nice! 3y

Some of these stories spooked me, but I am glad that I read it. They were full of grit and we're gruesome, yet most were entertaining. SFF anthology edited by a POC #ReadHarder2021

Butterfinger There is a story set in Malaysia that should be rated X that I am claiming for #ReadingAsia2021 @Librarybelle @BarbaraBB written by Jaymee Goh. The images will stay with me for awhile. 3y
Librarybelle Glad you were glad you read these! 3y
Roary47 Sweet! I‘ll mark you down for a completed challenge 😊💛 3y

How to Train Your Dragon | Cressida Cowell

The movie is one of my favorites for the sole reason that Toothless, at different times, reminds me of all my pets. I adore Toothless so I was excited for the original.

The movie is loosely, loosely based on the book. At first, I was disappointed. That isn't my Toothless, but Hiccup is the same boy who loves to study dragons. And if it wasn't for this book, I wouldn't have my Toothless.

PhyllisH How to Train Your Dragon is a favorite of mine. 3y
TheDaysGoBy I too had watched the movies before reading the books and the difference in Toothless was jarring - even though I‘d been forewarned. That said, I‘ve found things to love about the book Toothless and in general I loved the way the series progressed. It just furthered my love for httyd. Have you watched the shows? There‘s a couple Riders of Berk and Race to the Edge. Those are fun too 3y
Butterfinger @TheDaysGoBy I have never been one who likes books over movies or vice versa. I love them both. I love all the Dragon shows and I will continue the books too. I was pregnant with my 10 year old when I went to the movies and watched it three times. I nicknamed her Hiccup because I could feel her hiccuping. I just love HTTYD. 3y
Andrew65 Must read this. Well done 👏👏👏 3y

Next up, my first book by Matt Haig. I follow him on Instagram and absolutely adore him, his outlook, his humor. I‘m sure this will be enjoyable. Using this for the “cover you don‘t like” #readharder2021 prompt. I can‘t say exactly why, but this cover makes me uncomfortable. 😂👃🏻

BookishMarginalia I don‘t like that cover either. Ugh 3y
jen_hayes7 @BookishMarginalia Right?! I‘m glad I‘m not alone. 3y

Vacation mode! Back in Michigan, but the UP this time. A little getaway to celebrate the 13th anniversary of our first date. Staying at an adorable spot and resting up before hiking tomorrow. I‘m loving this book and might have to finish it before bed. #readharder2021
