Go Jane! Go Jane! Jane was bloody fierce for her time! She was a strong, smart, independent woman. Just how we like them! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
There was no possibility of taking a walk that day.

My awesome big sister came for a whirlwind visit to Perth from Melbourne last week. She came bearing gifts. Will ya look at that mug featuring books by women 😍🙏. She also bought sensational hand made salami, which we might‘ve had with Chandon orange over ice 🥂. It‘s the first time she‘s been able to get here since she had to make a last minute dash out of Perth in March 2020 (she‘d been here for work). We‘ve booked to visit her in Jan 🙌.
This book is an eternal "Pick" for me. No matter how many bonkers details emerge as I read it into adulthood, despite St. John's cold and paternalistic tendencies and Rochester's manipulations and the general dreariness that permeates every bit of it, I love Jane and I love this book. BUT- I will never understand why it ends with a joyful exultation of St. John's death?! Oh, Charlotte. You wouldn't be a Brontë if you didn't leave me wondering.
Chapter 38: and they all live happily ever after…… #everyonegetsmarriedbutstjohn #shocker #wtfarefrenchdefects #rochesterevengetshissightback #rugrats #thankyouallforhangingwithus #ilovebuddyreads #pemberlittens
Chapter 25:
🎶wedding bells are ringing in the distance🎶 Only a day left for the big day.
Rochester is away on business and Jane awaits him because she had a dreadful nightmare. Later when he arrives, she explains everything in detail.
I want to know too! Who was in her room? Who tore her veil in half? Did it really happen? (It seems so)
But all the signs are pointing to one big message, Jane and Rochester aren‘t meant to be 😪

Chapter 13:
I‘m loving this chapter 😂 Mr. Rochester is recovering from his fall. He “interviews” Jane on her past and her many skills, or a lack of them. He says and I quote, “You have lived the life of a nun.”
He could barely look at her when she entered the room and then compliments her “otherworldly” looks, which he then claims was the reason for his fall. 🤦🏽♀️ Nice flirting, not! 🤣

I‘ve been wanting to reread this for such a long time. I‘m glad to finally have something motivate me to do so. Is it the best time given the current state of things with my own Rochester? Probably not.
But look at this cover! 🔥
Chapter One 🙂 still deciding which copy to read. Thinking I might rotate ❤️
Chapter 1:
We‘re introduced to Mrs. Reed, her three children (Eliza, John and Georgiana), and Jane. Not sure how she‘s related to them but the poor girl is mistreated and abused. I never expected classics to mention something such as domestic violence right off the bat.
On another note, “Master Reed” reminds me of Augustus Gloop from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, who‘s been taken home from school on account of his “delicate health”. 🙄

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
One of my favorite classics!

I read this many times as a younger person and it‘s been many years since the last time I read it. Jane Eyre is complicated, more so than I recalled. I‘m thankful for @peanutnine for hosting the #eyrereadalong. Otherwise, I might not have found an opportunity to get back to this classic.
I have been listening to this on and off for a few weeks and just finished. At times I found my mind wandering, but as a whole I enjoyed the book. The proper writing and sometimes stiff characters was a little off-putting but then I remind myself of the time period and realize that Jane was quite bold for a female in that time period. I love that she was independent and had a mind of her own even before it was cool for a woman to have sass!
“I resisted all the way: a new thing for me…”

Hi there! This my first post here so I just thought I‘d share my very first reading love, Jane Eyre 💕 I‘ve always loved the character of Jane - she‘s so strong and sincere despite her less than fortunate life circumstances.. and I love the way she‘s the only woman who can win over the brooding Mr Rochester 😍
I searched for #J books but it was tough so I made a J for #30JuneBooks I‘m trying 😂
My shelves are still disorganized so it‘s tough to find books!
