YA read. James Watson meets Charlotte Sherlock at boarding school. James is of that Watson fame as the great great grandson of Sherlock Holmes Watson. Charlotte is kin to Sherlock by the same route. We will look for a good murder or, at the very least, an interesting heist to solve. Watson will say yes, I‘m sure of it. He always says yes to me.

I had high hopes for this retelling of Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson. Bailing because half way through I find I have no connection with either the new Holmes or Watson. The relationship didn't make sense.

I‘d long listed this ages ago but was confused that it wasn‘t available in kindle and forgot about it. I ended up Ordering it to be my classic retelling for #booked2023 and am a bit confused about how I feel. On one hand I liked the idea of descendants of Sherlock and Watson finding each other and solving crimes but found the family backstories frankly a bit odd. The crimes were well replicated and told afresh and whilst liking Charlotte 👇

Itchyfeetreader I found the replication of the drug habits not great and combined with odd family set up made me feel really sad for her. This aside it was well written and I‘d probably read another 1y
thewallflower0707 I love the Sherlock Holmes stories, but I never picked up this trilogy because I‘m annoyed that the author turned this world famous queer story into a girl meets boy story :( 1y
Itchyfeetreader @thewallflower0707 thanks for raising that. I hadn‘t explicitly picked up on it but your comment made me rethink what I found off about these and I think I agree. The author has kept almost too true to some elements and drifted too far from others. Well written but don‘t see myself going further with the trilogy. 1y

Why is it I overslept yesterday when I had to be at work and was up at the crack of dawn today when I didn‘t have to be anywhere until 10? Oh well it gave me time to finish this fun mystery featuring the descendants of Watson and Holmes solving mysteries at a Connecticut boarding school. #20in4 #Sharreadathon

I was a bit disappointed how Holmes and Watson in this book were exact duplicates of their great-great-great-grandfathers. Romance was unnecessary and unbelievable. We all know what S. Holmes used but it isn't endearing to read about a teenager in modern world using drugs.

Setting was nice but this wasn't really thrilling.

I think this was overall just too unbelievable for me. Okay read but flat.

I don‘t really know what to say. I really enjoyed this book and it makes me want to read more Sherlock Holmes stories than I have. I love the relationship between this version of Watson and Holmes and think their dynamic is absolutely brilliant. The story and mystery was so well written, I never could have guessed the ending. (Side note: I loved the last chapter and the way it made it feel as though the characters are real)

Maybe Charlotte Holmes was still learning how to pick apart a case; maybe I was still learning how to write. We weren‘t Sherlock Holmes and John Watson. I was okay with that, I thought. We had things they didn‘t, too. Like electricity, and refrigerators. And Mario Kart.

Such a nice surprise came in the mail this morning. Robin Brock @robinb sent this to me unexpectedly as she was attempting to divest herself of some books ?. If she's anything like me, not many books would "disappear." ???

So thoughtful. ??

I love book mail.

robinb You are so right, Jane! 😂🙄 So far I‘ve only been “able” to divest myself of five from my overwhelming TBR lot. LOL But I haven‘t given up yet. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Hope you enjoy! 🤗 3y

Last read of 2021! I love most iterations of Holmes and a Charlotte is particularly appealing. This Charlotte and Watson are teenagers with adult vices and problems. I did need to set my usual credulousness aside to accept these behaviors and enjoy the story. Cue boarding school, fast friendship, a murder mystery and our intrepid H & W in peril. Success and survival are in doubt until the end. I 😍it. 2022 may be the year of YA. 4+⭐️

Meh. I enjoyed the plot, but I didn‘t really love the characters. I feel one of the reasons Sherlock is such a good character is because he has no recognization of social cues, and I would have liked that to be reflected in Charlotte. I also think that the romance would have been better if it slowly formed over the course of the series. I still will be reading the next in the series to though. 3⭐️

Scochrane26 I think the 2nd is the weakest in the series, imo. Love the last 2. 3y

Love the premise of how the descendants of Sherlock and Watson are real in life. But for the most part of the book is quite boring, no real actions and I can't follow their search for evidence.

I didn‘t expect to like this so much.

James Watson is sent to boarding school in Connecticut. There, he meets Charlotte Holmes. They‘re descendants of Sherlock and Dr Watson. Charlotte learned her ancestor‘s skills at an early age.

When Watson defends her honor, and the boy in question ends up dead, they come together to solve the mystery. Lots of the same dynamics as the original, but with teenage hormones and angst thrown in.
