#12booksof2023 May saw the reunion of the #BandofTrollopes with a loose buddy read of the third book in the Barchester series. The language takes a minute to get used to, but then it is a joy to sink into these gentle comedies.

#Trollopeing #BandOfTrollopes what a joy to spend time with these characters!Dr.Thorne & Mary are such generally good sorts,while most of the others are obsessed with inheritance, land,titles,money, & appearances.Poor Frank! If I were playing a drinking game & took a drink every time he was told “You must marry money”,I‘d be in the same condition as Louis Scatcherd!And no, I still haven‘t found vol.2 of my old edition of this book!🙄

Loved my time spent with the good Doctor, Mary, and all the assorted Greshams, Scatcherds, and other characters here. Trollope is just such a joy to read, and I'm so tempted to dive right into another, although I won't for many reasons. Probably 😉

Loved being back in Trollope's world. Time slows down & you're fully immersed in a Victorian world of inheritance, property, desire, money, & marriage with Trollope frequently breaking the fourth wall. His verbosity is part of his style, which I enjoy. I thought Frank's "flirtation" with Miss Dunstable very un-Victorian & modern, & Miss Dunstable herself a truly memorable character. Plan to watch the 2016 series! #Trollopeing #BandofTrollopes

#Trollopeing #BandOfTrollopes how do you know you are reading a Victorian novel ? When the author says this novel is about Dr.Thorne but the background means you don‘t really meet the character till chapter 3 ! I borrowed ebook cuz I have a dozen Trollopes in the house yet none are Dr.Thorne!

BEFORE the reader is introduced to the modest country medical practitioner who is to be the chief personage of the following tale, it will be well that he should be made acquainted with some particulars as to the locality in which, and the neighbours among whom, our doctor followed his profession.

My first finish for #Victober! This is the third of Anthony Trollope‘s Barchester series, and so far it‘s my favorite! Trollope tackles a lot of social and political issues, all with a sene of humor. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Getting an early start on my #Victober reading. Clearing the decks on all of my other current reads to make room for a month-long (October) celebration of Victorian literature!

This #pink copy of Doctor Thorne has tiny print, but it‘s too cute not to keep. #readingresolutions @Jess7 (apologies if I post this twice - I‘m in low service area and it didn‘t seem to go the first try.)

Just finished the third book in The Barchester Chronicles. Doctor Thorne must manage the shenanigans and impending fallout brought on by Frank Gresham and his poor estate management. Trollope's 19th c. dry wit and keen observations of English societal moires make it seem as if you are peeking in the neighbors windows. Loving this series! 5/5 ⭐️

Next up...Framley Parsonage!

Loving this book in Trollope's Barchester series. As I keep reading, I'm giving more credence to the assertion that Trollope was a 19th century feminist. #classic #feminist #hellyeah

Julian Fellows adapted Anthony Trollope for Amazon and it was delicious. For all my classics lovers, it's a delight. (And the interior shots of libraries in the country homes are to die for.)

I finally started using Serial Reader again after a hiatus brought on by a massive book slump earlier this year. Never read Trollope before. We'll see how he is.

Time to scout for another to read... so many choices!

About 200 pages in, a parliamentary candidate is dismissed by the book's hero as a "muff" because it is discovered that he would "vote for an extension of the franchise, and the admission of the Jews into Parliament."

So, on the one hand I will probably keep reading these as they're delightful Victorian romances. But on the other hand, fuck you Anthony Trollope, you dirty Jew-hating asshat.

We have just started watching this on Amazon and I really like it. But the intros and postscripts by Julian Fellowes irk me. He is a brilliant screenwriter, but I don't need an explanation of moral complexity in characters or a lecture on why Trollope is a good novelist. 😡 Anyone else watch this miniseries? I expect I'm late to the party.

Finished my goodreads reading challenge. I set myself a realistic goal to read 30 books this year and ended up reading 35. So glad I found litsy! I discovered so many books this year...

This was my first book I read with serial reader. I love the concept. I loved Doctor Thorne from beginning to the end. While the ending, and much of the story, was predictable it is written with humour and I found myself laughing more than ones.

Just finished my first book on @SerialReader. And now I'm totally in love with the app.

Trollope's writing is such a delight. He is seriously witty and definitely knows how to draw out suspense (which is saying something, since I already knew the ending from the miniseries). There were a few extra-long explanations, but Trollope's voice is so delightful that I even enjoyed many of those. I had a blast! #serialreader #classics

Watched the first episode of Doctor Thorne while walking on the treadmill this morning - surprisingly good!! It's beautiful outside, but I couldn't justify just sitting in front of the television...
