Such a boring cover and cheesy title (what does it even mean?), but such a great fantasy! I loved the world building, complex magic system, and dark court intrigue. If you like fantasies that skew a little darker (think His Dark Materials), you‘ll also like this.

Ch 10 - Gamekeeper. Thorn is annoying me. I‘d sympathise with him having to get married when he doesn‘t want to but he‘s taciturn to the point of non-communication and he has no sympathy for Ophelia (in the same position) or her aunt Rosaline, transplanted to a strange, frozen world. He seems to be playing a political game but he hasn‘t even told them that yet but expects them to play along
This YA fantasy was okay but not good enough to want to pursue the series.
Great writing. I got invested in the world. It took me a while to really start liking it and my interest came in went but would definitely read the rest of the series.

I loved the characters, but the world-building seemed inconsistent, which made it difficult to keep track of some of the characters‘ movements and conflicts.
At first it was mere curiosity that kept me reading this, its an unusual concept and I wanted to see where it would go. It's a very slow burner this book and I didn't warm to Ophelia straight away but out of nowhere I loved her and had to know what was going to happen next. I love all the characters actually. However, being a translation there are a few sentences that jarred my concentration. Nevertheless, I've ordered Book 2.
An enjoyable fantasy - as other reviews have said the world building is wonderful but it does feel a little too slow at times. I‘m keen to read the next one - I think it might get faster paced. I listened to the audiobook and the narrator Emma Feeney did a great job. 🙌
I love when it's not clear who are trustworthy and who aren't.
The world was so unique and interesting - there were so many awesome things that I loved.
I sometimes liked the writing that was a bit different than usual. I felt like the hole book was an introduction. I am interested to see how this story continues now when the characters & world are familiar to me.

Another book where I have mix feelings. This is a confuse world with many things going on and many characters. However, I‘m intrigued to see what will happen to the main characters, Ophelia and Thorn. I want to read book 2 to see how the story goes. This is a so-so story for me but I want to continue the series, what can I say🤷🏽♀️3.4⭐️Im happy that I finally read it and I love that cover😍 All the books in the series have similar covers😍
Finished first book of #themirrorvisitor series, delighted by excellent world building and intriguing set up for adventures to come. (I am also trying to read the original version, though my French is very rusty, because the translation felt a bit aloof to me.)
This one was weird to me. I feel like I should have liked it more than I did. Honestly, I am a bit disappointed, but it wasn't a bad book. It kept me reading. I'm just left a little sour.
Starting this one as a buddy read on StoryGraph. Trying out the new feature from them.
This started off really strong with some interesting world building that had me convinced I would be buying the rest of the series before the weekend ends but then it really went downhill for me. Tons of intrigue but not much plot, I don‘t mind a slow read but this felt so overly long I was happy to reach the end.
The “next Harry Potter” this is not, but that doesn‘t stop it from being a delightful read on its own!
✨ R E A L L Y cool premise
✨ intriguing philosophical world-building
— okay characters
— plot is interesting but takes its time (can be good, can be bad)
— the romance is like, the least interesting part
Overall: A fantastical dystopia with political machinations & a decent, if tepid, romance that keeps you interested. ★★★☆☆.
A very unlikely coupling - Ophelia and Thorn

4.3 ?
A whirlwind adventure into a strange new world after The Rupture. God splintered the world and divided it into arks (which floated in the sky just like the cover). Each ark are different, and each are governed by ancient human (an immortal with great magical power). Enters Ophelia, a girl from Anima with special ability of travelling through mirror and "reading" objects, she can touch any objects and she can know its past as well as ?
I picked this one up at a used bookstore in Asheville yesterday! I‘ve been wanting to read it for awhile now!
This isn't necessarily the book to read if you're looking for a strong, exciting plot... it moved slowly and took time with the characters and world building. I loved it though!
This isn't exactly the most fast paced book in the world, but I am thoroughly enjoying it. Unfortunately, I have turned into such a slow reader lately that's it's taking me ages to get through anything!
I'm sending myself to bed early and hoping to get through at least 50 pages...
A little taste test to figure out why I'm so interested in this kindle thing... #catsoflitsy
4⭐️
This book was full of whimsical charm and political intrigue. The world and characterizations really reminded me of Howl‘s Moving Castle. I love that it didn‘t follow the cookie cutter model of a majority of YA books. I couldn‘t quite give it five stars because parts of it were a bit confusing and the plot was relatively slow. I am eager to read the sequel.
What is this trend of stopping YA fantasy books just as the heroine is crossing a threshold to another plane or world? This is the second time I have encountered this storytelling device. I am quite impressed with the layered unfolding of Dabos‘ story as it moves along. Nothing is what - or who - it seems. #newyearwhodis
Day 5 of #12Booksof2020
The 3 books so far out in The Mirror Visitor Quartet.
We meet Ophelia who is married off to Thorn. They originally live on different Arks so Ophelia has to move to his and learn to live in a new world.
I read this book before and was not a fan but my friend really enjoyed the audiobook and asked me to try it in that format so giving it another shot
September/ October books read:)
I haven't finished a book yet but decided to add the French edition of A Winter's Promise to the rotation. 😂 It's been nice to read it in the original but it is slower going. #readathon Hour 8
Fantasy, intrigue, betrayal, and dragons...what more could you want? A uniquely drawn world with deep political conspiracies.
I hope this one maintains. So far, it is great.
Don‘t mind Sadie ... she is just going to stand guard in front of the reading chair.
I really enjoyed this fun and original fantasy. Engaging characters and a cleverly constructed world. Just the escapism I needed.
This book really surprised me! The world building was wonderful (and mostly terrifying, I have no wish to marry into the Dragon family despite my love for Thorn). Will be picking up book 2!
One of these things is not like the others... I just finished A Winter's Promise and put it on my shelf. I loved the book, but boy, the words on that spine are going to bug me. Anyone else, or is this just me?
This was very original and surprising and I could not stop simpathysing with the main character Ophelia.😁 I will go on reading this series for sure! #Booked2020 #winter #covercrush @Cinfhen @BarbaraTheBibliophage @4thhouseontheleft
I talk in detail about my #StartOnYourShelfathon Goals and TBR in my new blog post at leticiatoraci.worpress.com
I zoomed through this. What a delight. I particularly like the Pride and Prejudice element to the story. Excited to read the next in the series.
#bookreport #weeklyreading another slow reading week for me. Too much work, not enough reading time! I am loving A Winter's Promise! I have ordered the second book so I can continue with the series. I need to finish The Witches Are Coming but I am not enjoying it as much as Shrill. The Dutch House is suffering from my lack of large chunks of time to read and sink into the book. Goal for this week is to finish these three.
