Off on a staycation with this to keep me company! 📕 I've not read anything by Antonia Hodgson before, so fingers crossed I like it. 😊
Pretty good yarn, suffers in a few places from predictable twists and over simplification on socio-economics. But ultimately worth your time and written with skill and care.
Not far off being a 'Pick' for me, and I think more people will like it than not.
Congrats Helen & I love the 🐿 picture!
1. You're getting 2 from me:
Fiction - The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet by Becky Chambers because I loved the LGBTQ relationship & the diversity of characters.
Nonfiction - Crime's Strangest Cases by Peter Seddon because it made me laugh out loud & one of the cases reminded me of my favourite tv show! 😂
2. The Silver Collar by Antonia Hodgson - the next in my favourite historical mystery series - ⬇️
Congratulations @Lizpixie and thanks for the giveaway! #lizpixies3x3giveaway
It's so hard choosing faves but here are mine:
#historicalmystery - tagged book, I love anything in the 18th Century!
#fantasy - this got me reading on my own as book 3 scared me; have tagged my fave of the series - Bellatrix ❤
#crimethriller - was torn between this 1 & John Connolly, but chose this as although John told me I liked the genre I discovered Harry first.
Anyone struggling with the 18th century square on my #jennyis30 bingo card?

@Cinfhen
I did find it a bit slow to start with and it did take me awhile to get into the book to the point where I cant put the book down. The main plot of the story is to find out who the murderer truly is, there are plenty of suspects in the Marshalsea, and your mind when you are reading it will pretty much accuse everyone of it and find reasons to suspect them all and make you think you have worked it all out.
Found my #whodunituk parcel today - thanks @Caroline2 (it was behind a garden ornament). Reading the reviews and I would have totally understood if you'd had to bail @TrishB !
I really enjoyed this! Set in a debtors prison in the early 18th century this was everything you want from a historical fiction book. Intriguing characters, compelling plot and very atmospheric! Thank you @jenniferw88 for choosing this for #whodunituk. I‘ve put the next book on my TBR list! 👍🏻
Oh thank you @Libby1 for the next #whodunituk (and the yummy chocolates! 😋). I‘m really excited to read this one! 👍🏻

Just starting this month‘s whodunit. Sounds really good.
Thank you @jhod for the sweets and gorgeous card accompanying November‘s whodunit. Mint is my favourite Lindt bar and I‘ve always wanted to try some Candy Kittens! Thanks to @jenniferw88 for choosing this book. I haven‘t read it before so looking forward to it. #whodunituk
My favourite historical mystery is on sale today - this is book 1!
OMG @TrishB - you have blown me away with your generosity. I can't believe I have in my hands my very own book zleeve (correct spelling, peeps). I will treasure it forever and I can't tell you how happy I am that I can put my books to bed on a night, knowing they'll be warm and comfy till morning 😂😂
Looking forward to the next book for #whodunituk (tagged).
Next #whodunnituk - lunchtime read 😁
Not feeling it yet, about 1/3 of the way through.
July Wrap Up - It hasn‘t been the best month for reading for me - I feel like I should have read a few more I think but never mind! I did like all the books I read though and particularly loved The Mercy Seat, All of This is True and The Devil in the Marshalsea! I hope you have all had a good month! 💕💕💕
Just to let you know @LoveToReadLiveToRead - the parcel arrived yesterday! Thank you for sending on the next book - it looks interesting! 😊💛⭐️
Great pick @jenniferw88 for #whodunituk !
I very rarely select any historical fiction for myself so this was a something I might not have read had it not been for the book swap. And I really enjoyed it!
A murder mystery set in Marshalsea prison, the plot twists and turns and keeps on going right until the end. I‘ve added the sequel to my TBR, looking forward to seeing what escapades Tom gets up to next! X
I‘ve not been on here much lately, nor have I had much time to read thanks to a poorly sleeping toddler, stress at work and trying to fit in some running training ahead of an upcoming race. BUT, I have an hour to myself so I‘ve got my #whodunituk book, some coffee and some Hotel Chocolate truffles. Aaaaand relax..... ☕️🍫📖
#bookriot #riotgrams #librarylove Does anyone else like when they order a used book and it comes in and it is an ex-library book? I love having old library books in my collection.
@LoveToReadLiveToRead #sockswap & #whodunituk are in the post! @JPeterson
@Christine11 @sprainedbrain @mabell #JaneAustenSwap is on it's way (I put my litsy handle on the outer package so there was no point in hiding my identity any further!)

@JPeterson
Just signed up for #whodunituk the sequel! @ScorpioBookDreams
UK Littens! Chalke Valley History Festival is hosting Antonia Hodgson amongst others this year! I ❤️ her series set in the 18th Century and I'm hoping to see her at this event. Tickets open 26th April. Programme can be found by clicking the link. https://cvhf.org.uk/
The Devil in the Marshalsea by Antonia Hodgson. This is set in 1727; Tom Hawkins has been thrown into Marshalsea Gaol, a notorious debtor's prison, and ends up sharing a room with Samuel Fleet--who is generally considered to have murdered his former roommate. I figured out some of the mystery plot, but it was complicated enough that I didn't quite manage to line up the pieces correctly. Originally posted on Instagram.

I enjoyed this although it wasn't what I expected it to be. I'd thought it would be heavier on the history. The author did a good job evoking 18th century London. 3.5-4 🌟
Appropriate for #scaretober ? 🕷
I absolutely loved this! If you fancy journeying back to the famous debtors prison in London 1727, pick this up. It's a grimy story, full of corruption and I couldn't get through it fast enough. Also, it's only 99p on kindle in the UK today which is a total bargain.
