⭐️blech! Frustrating, unlikeable characters, unbelievable nonsense! I hated that no one had names and that not one single person believed her. One of the most frustrating characters I ever read in a long time. I expected some cool twist which much would save this book for me. Nope! Lots love it. Good for them. Not for me.

BookMaven9 Most definitely 👍🏼 2d

#BookReport 18/24

I loved the tagged one and bailed on both others. I feel so restless. Excited about the #CampLitsy love and also anxious about the state of the world.

TheKidUpstairs The Future is definitely one that needs full focus. It would be so hard to get into it if you're focus is all over the place! I've had a number of bails recently, too. Many that I'm sure would be great reads at another time. 2w
BarbaraBB @TheKidUpstairs Your review of it made me want to read it and I am sure I‘d loved it if I would have been more focused! 2w

This is the fifth book in this British police procedural series, the first of which is “Close to Home“. I am getting to know all the characters and their backgrounds better (there are a lot of them), which adds to the enjoyment. There are two cases in this one, a sexual assault charge by a male student implicating his female Professor and a murder investigation which puts Adam in jeopardy. I am now looking forward to reading the next one. 4.25/5

A super addictive read about a Vietnamese refugee held hostage by a man in the UK. They are even married but he controls every move she makes and she wants out. So scary and pageturning! It gave me The Collector vibes. The ending felt a bit hurried but I spent some pretty intense hours with this book. Recommended!

ChaoticMissAdventures Ohhh I love The Collector, a book that not enough people talk about. 3w
BarbaraBB @ChaoticMissAdventures Then this one‘s definitely for you! I loved The Collector too! 3w
quietlycuriouskate The Collector properly freaked me out! I read it 25 years ago and haven't forgotten. 😱 3w
BarbaraBB @quietlycuriouskate I read it a long time ago too but it made a lasting impression! 3w
Suet624 Ugh. The collector. Freaked me out. 2w

This is an intense debut novel, not just because of the mystery intruder aspect, but because of the way the mother is treated by the authorities, the public, and her own family after it is all over. You get the high tension of the actual event, occurring second by second within that small space, but then you get the second act that actually felt more terrifying to me as a woman.

The plot and characters were never developed. I just didn‘t care about any of it. I really wanted to love it, but I‘m just happy I finished it.

This is the 4th book in this British police procedural series and I have really enjoyed all of them. This one deals with a couple of missing girls, which requires trying to get information from the friends. The crimes seem to have the same MO as that of a serial rapist that Adam Fawley put away many years ago and so he must deal with others thinking he may have been wrong then. The ending sets us up nicely for the next in the series. 4.25/5 stars

An Amazon book haul from earlier this week! Some of these are from the”Buy 2 Get 1” sale. Also, I already have a BOTM copy of The Women but the regular copy is just so pretty 😍!
