Stranger Things: Suspicious Minds: The First Official Stranger Things Novel
Stranger Things: Suspicious Minds: The First Official Stranger Things Novel | Gwenda Bond

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER - A mysterious lab. A sinister scientist. A secret history. If you think you know the truth behind Eleven's mother, prepare to have your mind turned Upside Down in this thrilling prequel to the hit show Stranger Things. It's the summer of 1969, and the shock of conflict reverberates through the youth of America, both at home and abroad. As a student at a quiet college campus in the heartland of Indiana, Terry Ives couldn't be farther from the front lines of Vietnam or the incendiary protests in Washington. But the world is changing, and Terry isn't content to watch from the sidelines. When word gets around about an important government experiment in the small town of Hawkins, she signs on as a test subject for the project, code-named MKULTRA. Unmarked vans, a remote lab deep in the woods, mind-altering substances administered by tight-lipped researchers . . . and a mystery the young and restless Terry is determined to uncover. But behind the walls of Hawkins National Laboratory--and the piercing gaze of its director, Dr. Martin Brenner--lurks a conspiracy greater than Terry could have ever imagined. To face it, she'll need the help of her fellow test subjects, including one so mysterious the world doesn't know she exists--a young girl with unexplainable superhuman powers and a number instead of a name: 008. Amid the rising tensions of the new decade, Terry Ives and Martin Brenner have begun a different kind of war--one where the human mind is the battlefield. Praise for Stranger Things: Suspicious Minds "You're left hungry for more, but in the best way possible, as the book manages the balancing act between interconnected prequel and standalone story."--Cinelinx "Suspicious Minds is the prequel story that fans have been waiting for."--Kirkus Reviews "Highly recommended for those readers interested in expanding their knowledge of the Stranger Things' universe, this book is also a dark and captivating story that will stick in the readers' minds even if they are not fans of the franchise."--The Unseen Library

I'm trying to catch up on my #scarathlon posts. I've re-watched all 42 ST episodes. Love that show. I've also watched 2 Halloween episodes each of Big Bang and Modern Family. And I introduced my 20 year old to Beetlejuice. She wasn't impressed with the special effects. 🙄
Total points 235 for #teamslaughter @Clwojick

TEArificbooks I watched Gremlins with my kid last night. He wasn‘t impressed with special effects either 2y
Bookwomble When I watched Star Trek The Original Series with my kids, they wet themselves laughing at the effects, and cringed at the sexism. They do like TNG and the later series, though. 2y

Audiobook pick:
I'm a HUGE Stranger Things fan. As I eagerly (impatiently) await season 4, these books will give me my fix. This one gives the backstory of Terry, Eleven's mom.

My biggest complaint about Stranger Things (really ONLY complaint, I love that show) is that it‘s not a book! As a joke, my husband surprised me with this book! It‘s sort of a prequel with Eleven‘s mother‘s backstory. So far, it‘s poorly written trash, which is completely what I expected and has not disappointed. I‘m kind of in the mood for mindless trash anyway.

A fun prequel to Stranger Things, focusing on the generation before Eleven. I've still only watched the first season so I'm not certain if other characters appear in the show but it's wicked background info on Dr. Brenner and the Hawkins lab. Not sure people unfamiliar with the show would appreciate it but I definitely think fans will enjoy spending more time in this world. #mommyreads #audiobooks #booksonthebigscreen #scifi

This is an EXTREMELY RARE sight! My oldest daughter unfortunately is not a reader (thanks accelerated reader 😒). But luckily she found a Stranger Things book at Book-A-Million today and I‘m hoping 🤞🏼she will love it!!

Sweetkokoro I hope she loves it! My daughter too is showing signs of not liking reading when she originally did like it. Once she was introduced the accelerated reading at school her interest took a nose dive, she hates falling the tests that go with the books. And half the ones she wants to read are not part of the lists of qualified books, It‘s rough. 6y
SassyBookworm @jb72 exactly!!! And I will try anything to get her to love reading! @readordierachel I‘m crossing my fingers 🤞🏼! @Bookish_B thank you ❤️! 6y
SassyBookworm @Sweetkokoro Alexa loved to read and be read to as a small child but the AR program killed it! She didn‘t like the books, she felt forced to read (I‘m the same way I don‘t like being forced), and she could easily read the 1pt books and make her quota. The high school has helped a little letting them choose books. But if she follows me it will be a while before she enjoys reading again. I was in my late 20s before I started to love to read again 6y
Sweetkokoro Alanni is 10 & she loved being read to as well & enjoyed reading on her own. But she feels the same way as your daughter she feels forced to read & while she can pick what she wants the choices are undesirable. Her teacher doesn‘t allow them to gain points from grade levels below their appointed range and deletes points obtained by them, which makes Alanni super mad. I get the program but I feel it has the opposite effect on some kids. 6y
Tamra I really wish it was open choice for students for so many reasons. 6y
shellleigh33 My daughter is not a big reader either but she loves Stranger Things and graphic novel books. Graphic novels books don‘t get many points on AR tests though and this is very discouraging to her. 6y
Paula3 AR has been proven to hinder readers. I hope she enjoys picking her own books and subject matter ♡ 6y
SassyBookworm @Sweetkokoro wow! Deletes the points if they are below grade level! Goodness that‘s kind of harsh. I completely agree for many kids it has the opposite effect. I understand them wanting kids to read but when they are forced to read books they don‘t like, it just turns so many off of the joy of reading a book you love! 6y
SassyBookworm @Tamra me too! I believe Alexa would lie to read more. Since in high school she was able to pick a book and found one she really liked. I‘m hoping this one she will as well. @shellleigh33 Alexa has found a few graphic novels but they aren‘t as popular around our area as many places. I‘m glad many parent are in the same boat as me with the AR struggles! @Paula3 it‘s sad they keep the program when hinders students. Thank you! She read 25p last nite 6y
booksaremyfavorite My daughters were also like that due to AR. Thankfully now that they can read whatever they want they both love reading. 6y

It's been a while since I've finished a book because of school but I finally finished this one! I loved it! It was very well-written. It's a great prequel to the show. It was interesting to read more about Eleven's mom and the experiments prior to the events of the show. This book showed just how truly evil Dr. Brenner is. I would definitely read more from this author!

Was glad I borrowed from library instead of buying.
Very disappointing 😒 I'm a big Stranger Things fan but this was just not written well at all. The plot was silly, the characters cartoonish
My first negative review on here because this made me mad lol 😣

I'm still very excited for season 3 though!!!! #strangerthings

Patchshank That sucks. I'm a few chapters into it, but I've gotten side tracked by other things. Maybe I'll like it? Who knows. 6y

A decent read I enjoyed although I do wish that the characters have more depth. It is a good backstory to how Stranger Things begins and it complements well with the TV show. I'm looking forward to reading the next one in the series and I am definitely so ready for Stranger Things Season 3 in July 2019! Woohoo!

Rating: 3.5🌟 (between a pick and so-so)

Stranger Things being the amazingness that it is, I came to this book with extremely high expectations, but Gwenda Bond met them. This novel tells the tale of Terry, a college girl caught up in a dangerous experiment with seemingly no way out. As Terry, along with her three friends from the experiment, learn the truth about the experiment and the lab, they find themselves in a fight for more than just their lives. I highly recommend it.

I missed the author event at my local indie last week, ☹️ but snagged a signed copy today. Gwenda Bond is also a local author. It‘s been advertised that she is the only author (so far, I‘m sure) with permission to write about Stranger Things. This is a prequel to the TV series. I‘m so excited!! 😆🥳

Karkar I saw this the other day. Will be interested to see if you like it. 6y
