⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ FBI Profiler John Douglas takes us inside the Bureau‘s elite serial crime unit. For years, he meticulously studied serial criminals with the intent to understand motive, MO, signature, and other dark behaviors. “To understand the ‘artist,‘ you must study his ‘art.‘” Perhaps a morbid way to state it, but yeah. Douglas goes into immense detail of several crimes and criminals. A brilliant dude. Maybe one day I‘ll watch the Netflix series.

LeahBergen The Netflix series is so well done (especially the casting for each serial killer)! 6mo

I love watching shows like 20/20, 48 Hours and Dateline, and this book fell right along with that. Douglas and Olshaker write about the beginning of the Behavioral Unit at the FBI. They look at the behind the scenes.

The first part of the book dealt with Douglas' early life and time at the FBI. I would have preferred they looked at more cases. Some of the cases they explored I knew about, but there were quite a few I didn't. Overall, ⬇️

MonicaLoves2Read a good read if you enjoy the True Crime Genre.

I really enjoyed this one!
Serial Killers and Profiling are my favourite genres in fiction, so I thought, this, being the birth of behavioural analysis would either kill that love or amplify it. Glad to report the latter.
Going through all the different cases and scenarios, seeing the behind the scenes of what was put into creating a department in the FBI solely focusing on criminal behaviour and background. Fascinating from start to finish.

#doublespin done! I enjoyed this, and found the information around behavioural analysis really interesting. BUT, as I have read in a lot of other reviews, I found the author to be a bit of a sanctimonious prick in all honesty. The true crime elements were fascinating though, so it scrapes a Pick rating.

This is one of those books that I put off for far too long. I knew I would enjoy it, I, for some reason, always chose another book before this one. A 4⭐ read. I don't feel like I need to say more. It seems if you love true crime this book is a staple. #20in4

Happy sun drenched Tuesday!🌞Since this is a huge interest of mine, I like the way Douglas explains each variable of how certain identities/characteristics are shown in a criminal profile. I pause in between to see if I can come up with a profile then read on to compare to Douglas & the actual UNSUB. At the same time, Douglas doesn‘t stray from acknowledging the victims & emotions that come with the job.

I couldn't wait to read this once it arrived and definitely was not disappointed. Watched and loved the t.v. series and found out there was a book afterwards. This had a bit of the author/special agents story on how he became involved with the FBI and how he helped develop the Serial Crimes Unit. 👇

HeathHof And also explains how they developed personality profiling to help catch perpetrators of serial killings and other crimes including both really well known high profile cases and some lesser known. The agents learn from and interview convicted murderers to gather insight and develop profiling. Details of heinous acts against humans and animals are included so trigger warnings galore. Overall very well written compelling and thought provoking. 4y

This is published in two parts in Finnish. This is the first one. I felt like this could have been better. I would have liked to read a bit more about the psychology behind the minds of serial killers and the reasons behind their actions. But this was interesting as well. Looking forward to the second part.

Admittedly I did find myself laughing at how self-congratulatory Douglas‘ tone was at times ; we get it, you‘re good at your job 😆

Love the show; prompted me to read the source. Captivating so far as to how much Douglas exposes his own failures. Pleasing my interests of psychology, police work & why humans do unbelievably horrific things.

John Douglas describes his journey to the Behavioral Science Unit at the FBI & the interviews he conducted alongside other agents to understanding the psyche of serial killers.

I read this after realizing the tv show has been delayed not just due to Covid but because of schedule conflicts. I'm glad I read it, but I had a hard time getting through some of this. I'll put it this way, if you think Holden has an ego, wait till you read the words from the actual man. Also some of the things he says about women are difficult to stomach. It's worth a read if you liked the tv show, just know the road you're about to start down.

“The stories and legends that have filtered down about witches and werewolves and vampires may have been a way of explaining outrages so hideous that no one in the small and close-knit towns of Europe and early America could comprehend the perversities we now take for granted. I had pretty high expectations when I started reading this book mainly because the tv show version on Netflix is absolutely my favourite show and now I know why.
This book is engaging, disturbing and pretty fascinating.
It revolves around the psychology behind criminals , what makes them do the things that they do.

Because the main question is- are criminals born? Or are they formed?

All about the FBI profile program development. This book is a bit more dry than I am used to and seems to jump around from story to story. I thoroughly enjoy true crime so getting to hear it straight from the original profiler himself is quite cool. It is a well written book and very informative. I wish we got to here a little more about the killers themselves but still a good read. I enjoyed the Netflix special maybe a little more.
