If you haven't read this author yet...you need to add him to your list. He seamlessly blends true historic events and his own world building and characters to give you a beautiful saga like read. Not unlike Michner. This is a #chunkster but don't let it intimidate you. Highly recommend this author.
#twofortuesday @TheSpineView
1) Absolutely! Historical fiction is my go-to and ancient history, if well written, can be among the best
2) Tagged and anything by Rutherford. Also all of Sue Harrison‘s books set in the ice age, & W Michael & Kathleen Gear‘s ancient North American historical fiction
I‘ve been absent from all the weekly posts for a long time thanks to a demanding work schedule. I‘m hoping to get back into the groove again!!
Ebook on sale. This is an excellent history of England but beware it is a chunkster, which I find very difficult to read as ebooks.
I feel very honoured to have "discovered" this author. I'm quite sure that I can't put into words how fantastic this book is, therefore I've added in the book's synopsis.
All I can say is that I absolutely loved reading about the rich English history, from the ice age, to the 1980's. Absolutely brilliant.
Very excited to have "discovered" this author ?

#gratefulreads #Day2 There‘s no doubt that my #preferredgenre is historical fiction. I love historical mysteries, too, and historical romances are fun, but give me a #chunkster saga and I‘m happy. This is one of my all time favorites, that I first read in 1993. I know that because it was one of the few books we took with us to Prague.
2/5⭐ Not terrible, but too sweeping in scope and oddly combining a documentary style with fiction that both failed to capture me. #fantasydragon #adventureathon #fantasyadventureathon

3. It‘s actually off, because it‘s reading 70 in the house.
4. I love to read on mild, sunny days, sitting on my patio
5. A #chunkster historical novel.
Really not trying to rub it in for those of you dealing with the cold. My son and his family are supposed to fly home from Wisconsin today, and we‘re worried they won‘t be able to get home.
Onto book 2 of my #MakeMeReadIt Challenge for August, with Sarum which got the second highest number of votes. At 1344 Pages this may take me some time! I picked my copy up from a Church Book Sale three years ago (this month) in Wick, Scotland. It was on a table of books they they were giving away for nothing! Who am I to turn down such a bargain. You can‘t beat free! #2 #YearoftheChunkster

I really enjoyed this! Good historical fiction. I learned a good bit of English history along the way. I will definitely put his other books on my TBR. To me it felt ver similar to The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett, which I also enjoyed 😊
Today‘s summer breakfast is blueberries and raspberries 😋 Hoping to finish this long book today!
Coffee and a little bit of porch reading before it gets too hot today! ☀️
I came home from an afternoon run and found these two in my backyard! 😳
Greek yogurt, granola, a banana
Historical, long, engrossing
I have a glass paperweight with goldfish in it

Happy Wednesday, everyone! 😊
Very excited to be starting this chunkster! I love big, sprawling stories, especially for summertime reading! 🤓 Unexciting cover picture on this Kindle edition, though.
It‘s taking me a long time but I‘m getting there!
Here‘s what I read in March! I finished all of these except for Sarum (1344 pages and I‘m working on it). If I finished a book it means I liked it since I always bail on a book that I don‘t enjoy. My favourites on this list were Educated and The Little Red Chairs. Jezebel and Fever Dream were probably my least favourite. Now on to April!
Okay I am going to dive into Edward Rutherford‘s first epic novel Sarum. It‘s 1344 pages long! I have no idea how I got this copy but it is inscribed inside the front cover by none other than the Custodian of Old Sarum Castle (1995)!! I think that‘s really cool 💕📖💕📚
I have started the journey! Do not be scared, I‘m not reading Twilight, this is just one part of Sarum! #yearofchunkster @Andrew65 @Dulcinella
Staring at it and questioning my own sanity - 1344 pages. @Andrew65 @Dulcinella @drokka
This book is intense, fascinating and captivating!! Not for the faint of heart because it is a rather large and involved book. #historicalfiction
A #saga of the Salisbury Plain of England. I'm never sure if I have fond memories of this because I spent Christmas in Salisbury when I was a teen, because I read it when my second child was a newborn (reading and nursing was my habit) or just because it's a good book. #jubilantJuly @RealLifeReading
An epic read One of my all time faves that starts so far back in time the English continent is still connected to Europe. It's a gloriously detailed read that follows a bloodline through the ages intertwining history and fiction into a meaty and satisfying story. To this day I think of this book every time I hear the word Salisbury or talk of stone masons. Cleverly researched and imagined writing
Kindle alert! If you like historical fiction and haven't read this, now is the time. One of my top ten books of all time.
Opening line: "First, before the beginning of Sarum, came a time when the world was a colder and darker place." #Sarum #edwardrutherfurd #bestseller #bookcover #readmore #bookish #instabook #bookstagram #bookgnome
My 1 woman 24in48 this weekend continues. Love that Boudicca is referenced in here. Love her story. Fierce woman not willing to surrender her home to the Romans. Commanding a fierce army.
Read through 20,000 years of Sarum history so far this morning. Life has been really eventful past couple of months. So doing a 1-woman read-a-thon 😂 needed something I didn't need to think to much to read and have had this in the TBR forever. I know it fulfills 1 of my 2017 reading challenges but haven't looked to figure out which. Hope everyone is good out there in Litsy-ville!!!! ❤❤❤📚❤
Rutherfurd magically weaves humanity into geographical history. Worth the time commitment every time!
