I haven't read the novels yet, but I can tell how excellent they are from the narrative style of the graphic novel. I really enjoyed this book, and love the inclusion of so many cultures' gods and mythology. The art is gorgeous as well. Some warnings for graphic sexual content and some suicide ideation. #graphicnovel #comic #adaptation #mythology #gods

Extremely faithful adaptation with some great art. An enjoyable read, and a damn fine story, but I did miss some of Gaiman‘s spectacular way with words that the original novel offers.

Enjoyed this #graphicnovel of #AmericanGods. It's actually helped me to understand the series a bit better lol. Saw in my local library and thought why not? 🤷🏻‍♀️ It is most definitely adults only! ⭐⭐⭐⭐

This is a fairly word per word version of the first arc of the novel which was great to read again but the artwork itself was not as engrossing and in some moments didn't do enough justice to the scenes as written but I did love some of the David Mack pieces that are in between the issues but then again it was hard to not love them with their color and touch of magic.

I'm really enjoying this. I haven't read many comic adaptations of novels, but wow, this is really well done so far.

Teru I just discovered Neil Gaiman, and loved Neverwhere. Will definitely check out American Gods. 😀 6y

Velvetfur @TheLibrarian I did, thank you! I posted it today, I think it usually takes about a week for something to travel between our countries so you'll have it soon, yay 😊 6y
TheLibrarian @Velvetfur It‘s in my city but having issues with the post office. Was home all day when it came but they said I wasn‘t then told me to pick it up at the wrong post office. So hopefully my fiancé can grab it tomorrow before he goes to work. 6y
Velvetfur @TheLibrarian Oh no, what a fail! There's something weird about postal services in general, we have all kinds of issues with them here too... I hope your fiance can get it tomorrow! 6y

Graphic novels have to be really special to add something more to a story. This one didn‘t, apart from a few pictures of engaging artwork, but it certainly didn‘t detract from something that was already pretty damn good to begin with.

One more dishonor ...
The Public Enemy award goes to the book that doesn't live up to its hype. Sadly, this year it‘s the comics adaptation of American Gods. I was excited to see one of my favorite Gaiman books get this attention. But after the first two or three issues it fell flat, and never recovered. I have no idea how the show is faring. But if you want to explore this, take the time with the actual book - it‘s way better.
