Cute story! My grandson enjoyed having it read to him. 🩵
“They left the house at half past nine in two straight lines in rain or shine- the smallest one was Madeline.“
I love this book because when I was a child, I used to love the story. Just like the girls in the book I wanted to be just like Madeline. She was such a strong character and so adventurous.
Madeline is a cute book where when a little girl, Madeline, has to go to the hospital her friends show their support. They want to be just like Madeline. This story is an older story that is still read by many today because of its light hearted message.
This is a great book for all ages. It also shows a lot of representation for abstract families. Madeline doesn't have parents or a brother or sister. She lives with 12 other girls and one house mother. It also gives a positive connotation for scars. Sometimes people cant control the scars they have and at the end of the book all of the girls wanted to be just like Madeline.
Madeline was written in 1939 written and illustrated by Ludwig Bemelmans won a Caldecott award in 1940. It is about 12 girls who are always perfectly in line in everything they do and live in an old house in Paris. The smallest of them was Madeline. She was brave, fearless, and daring. One night she woke up in extreme pain and had to get her appendix taken out. Her friends from the house visited and she showed them her scar. They wanted one too.
I‘m not sure what the French for #OnThinIce is, but I imagine Miss Clavel saying it to our girl a lot. #IdiomInsight @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @Eggs
RíEllie discovered her mom‘s old Madeline doll has a scar on her tummy. She (and her twin brother) are very very concerned so I pulled out the book to assure them Madeline was just fine. Now RiEllie is in a corner reminding Madeline how she displayed that scar like a badge of honor to her friends. I wish I could post her voice in this telling!
I saw the 1998 movie growing up countless times. It was one of my favorites. My parents didn‘t read to us growing up and I never stumbled upon the book in elementary school so I didn‘t even know this was a book until I was a teenager!
And now I‘ve finally read it. I love the story, it brought back memories and I love the illustrations! I can‘t wait to read this to my future kids!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ • 😭I love this book so much. I had the cutest Madeline doll as a child.
Loving a little reading time with Natalaya! Her twin Emery was listening from afar! Their mother‘s namesake is this book! #LittleLittens

#3books I've re-read.
I don't re-read often. I like to think I will, so I keep more books than I really need on the off chance I decide to actually re-read a book. That said, here are 3 I've actually read more than once.

One of my favorite Poetry Fiction book series growing up (made into a show on NickJr.)Madeline is a rhyming story of a Parisian little girl living in a Catholic orphanage with 12 other girls. This classic, Caldecott awarded, RF book follows Madeline, the smallest girl at her school and her adventures. For great resources for this book, visit This book would be great for an AS on Ludwig Bemelmans and the other iconic books in the Madeline series. UDL 8.3 about fostering collaboration and community works great because this is a book where the students can be involved in the reading.
Bemelmans was awarded the Caldecott Medal for his classic story of Madeline. This poetry (P) book talks about Madeline the smallest yet bravest girl of them all. Madeline is rushed to the hospital and the other 11 girls parade her with gifts so she can recover. This book is great for a RA and to have students share a time when they were brave!

It has been too long since I read this book - perhaps a decade. I had forgotten how lovely it is. Reminds me of The Little Princess with the girls at boarding school.

The trip to @Mdargusch ‘s storage unit to sift through forgotten treasures paid off with this nearly perfect Madeline dollhouse. Florence is in heaven.
Thank you to the litten who inspired me to go through and cull and organize my daughters‘ bookshelves. I got rid of all the baby books except the ones I knew they wouldn‘t part with. I organized the books into collections (where applicable) and I got some early reader books out for my budding reader. Her homework last night was to read me a book she knew very well. ♥️
I couldn't just choose one, hahaha! In Middle School, Madeline, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, and The Chronicles of Narnia were my favorites.
