She Loves You (Yeah, Yeah, Yeah)
She Loves You (Yeah, Yeah, Yeah) | Ann Hood
18 posts | 7 read | 13 to read
Best-selling author Ann Hood tells the story of a girl swept up in the heart of 1960s Beatlemania. Written in her signature prose, Hood weaves a tale of four misfit friends who set off to see the Beatles' final world tour, each harboring a secret hope. What emerges is a sincere and funny story of growing up, making unexpected connections, and following your dreams even as the world in front of you--and the world at large--is changing too fast. The year is 1966. The Vietnam War rages overseas, the Beatles have catapulted into stardom, and twelve-year-old Rhode Island native Trudy Mixer is not thrilled with life. Her best friend, Michelle, has decided to become a cheerleader, everyone at school is now calling her Gertrude (her hated real name), and the gem of her middle school career, the Beatles fan club, has dwindled down to only three other members--the least popular kids at school. And at home, her workaholic father has become even more distant. Determined to regain her social status and prove herself to her father, Trudy looks toward the biggest thing happening worldwide: the Beatles. She is set on seeing their final world tour in Boston at the end of the summer--and meeting her beloved Paul McCartney. So on a hot August day, unknown to their families, Trudy and crew set off on their journey, each of them with soaring hopes for what lies ahead.

Finally finished a book in print! Another mg novel that made me cry. Growing up is hard! Even in the 1960s!
Putting it in the mail early next week @IndoorDame. Thanks for a good round of reads @LibrarianRyan @Johanna414 #lmpbc

Thank goodness for audio books. Otherwise I wouldn't have much to report!
🎧 Queenie. I can appreciate its relevance but it made me feel old and cranky.
🎧 Sabrina & Corina. A solid collection. Particularly enjoyed the Denver setting
🎧 Your House Will Pay. Just started. From #tob long list
📗Orlando. About 100 pages in. Woolf is amazing as usual.
📗She Loves You. A few chapters into this #LMPBC mg novel

So last night I expected to come home from the book store to my preorder of the Starless see. Nope. Instead I had two lovely surprises.

1. My #allhallowsreadswap feom @Easytiger
2. The post office found my #LMPBC #round6 book! They told josh they only “found” it because I used a business was card for a bookmark and left it in the book. No envelope, nothing else that was in the envelope but I have the book!!! I‘ll get it sent out right away.

Bookwormjillk 😳wow! 5y
Johanna414 Your post office sounds like it‘s got some issues! 5y
LibrarianRyan @Johanna414 it does and it knows it does. We still have one missing package. It keeps bumping from our town to STL to CHI and Michigan. According to tracking it‘s been in town twice and then shipped somewhere else. They are trying to “catch” it. The company sent a replacement which Josh has received but the original is still on it‘s around d the states trip. 5y

LibrarianRyan @Johanna414 don‘t even get me started on the 4 day delay in delivering my shoes. The tracking said because of extreme weather (it was sunny and 60). The next day was for dogs, and who knows why the third day. It was so ridiculous I had to screen shot my tracking and show it to the PO when I went to complain. 5y
Brittybuhh Your post office sounds like mine. 😂 sometimes I‘ll get a notification a delivery was attempted while I‘m home and no one came to the door, I‘ll then go to the mailbox to see the flag still up for something being sent out because the mail people literally just skipped our road for the day (I live in the middle of no where and they skip us a lot) 5y
Brittybuhh My owlcrate also barely fits in the mailbox but the mail people will leave it in there with the door open because it won‘t fit with other mail, or I‘ve had them leave it half way up my driveway/ leave a note to come get it at the post office because they don‘t want to drive up my driveway. Then when I go to the PO it‘s not there 😂 it‘s terrible 5y
IndoorDame That‘s crazy! 5y
LibrarianRyan @Brittybuhh that does suck!! 5y
Hooked_on_books That‘s just amazing that they found your book! 5y
TheAromaofBooks Once I ordered a book from Paperback Swap, and all that came was the empty envelope and that lovely tag from the post office that states the obvious “your package may have been damaged in transit...“ 🙄 MONTHS later, the book showed up in my mailbox, all by itself! The sender had inserted a piece of paper with my name/address in the book, so somewhere along the line the book was found and sent on! 5y
LibrarianRyan @TheAromaofBooks I got one of those envelops only too. But never the book. A Litten had sent it to me. 5y
Easytiger Yess I‘m so happy!!! 5y

@merelybookish @IndoorDame @Johanna414

Bad news from the post office is that the tagged book is missing. The tracking number does not work.

Something is going on there and I have complained because they refused to deliver one package and Josh has something bumping between two post offices (for almost 2 months) and now this is missing. If I do t hear back to by next week I will replace the book. I still have Diary and am reading it next.

LibrarianRyan I‘m really sorry this happened on my watch. I was told by the post office to be patient because local changes are coming. They are hopeful that all my missing items will be found. They did find my shoes. But that was only 4 days. And that was a new lady who wouldn‘t deliver because I had dogs. 🤯🤬 5y
merelybookish No need to apologize! Not your fault but sounds like your post office is a pain! Makes me wonder if you ever received the last book @IndoorDame ? I mailed it off Monday, Oct 21st. 5y
Chrissyreadit Oh no! We‘ve had struggles with mail in my area too. It stinks. 5y

IndoorDame That‘s too bad, but don‘t worry about it, these things just happen. 5y

3 🌟
Overall I did enjoy this book. There were things that were thoroughly predictable (like the end), and things not expected (like lucky items), but it was a pleasant experience. This is a very niche book. It‘s not one I could just hand to anyone and say “you‘re gonna love it” because I don‘t think it‘s true. But pair it with the kid that needs to hear it‘s message and you might just hit the jackpot.

It‘s been a crazy week as I get ready for school to start next week and I‘ve been getting trained on my new automation system in the library - there‘s been no time to read 😭
Tonight, the kids are in bed and my husband is at a fantasy football draft. Time for a book and drink on the porch!

kellyann28 Oh I do like Redd's! Hope school goes good for you this next week! 5y

Diving into this month‘s #LMPBC read during my weekly shift at the antique store. It‘s already got me feeling super nostalgic... I may have grown up in the ‘90s rather than the ‘60s, but I was OBSESSED with The Beatles!
Any shoppers I have will get to enjoy the Beatles playlist I‘m rocking today ☺️

The 2nd book I finished during #24B4Monday also happens to be my #lmpbc round6 groupM pick. I'll be mailing it out next week. I don't want to say too much about it before others get a chance to read it, but this was a sweet read with a seriously uplifting ending.

Junior high is tough. Trudy‘s best friend has abandoned her and she‘s left with only 3 misfit friends who love The Beatles as much as she does. The 60s is beautifully evoked here but I‘m uncertain how many middle grade readers will really care all that much about this sorta, not quite historical, unrealistically predictable but sweet novel. Just got home from Christmas with my family and my #merryandbrightswap was waiting for me. 😁 Thank you do much @JamieLou ! After a week with my family, I sure did need something happy (and quiet—lol!). The Reese‘s trees only lasted long enough for the picture. The books look great, I always need dish towels, love the bookmark, the ornament, and all the rest. Hope you had a lovely holiday.
