#bookreport A good week, finished 4! Picked Girl Waits with Gun back up as I'm trying to work through the way too many books I have hibernating. And started My Man Jeeves on audio which is a bit disappointing so far, two of the stories at least were also in Carry On Jeeves.
#weeklyforecast finish Jeeves and continue with Wharton's Old New York, hopefully finish both the 60s and 70s. I doubt I'll finish Girl but you never know.

I loved the characters, and although based on actual historical events, the author manages to make the story quite her own.
I do think the story stalled around halfway through the book but all in all a great story, lots of gumption and great dialogue from the female MC and I loved that. I regret not having picked this up earlier. It was an entertaining listen part in thanks to Christina Moore's narration.

With this book, #pop23 (excluding advanced prompts) is done. #withgirlinthetitle
Also #booked23 #partofatrilogy - there's probably more in the series but it's so late in the year I can't be bothered to find an actual trilogy now.

#12booksof2022
On the 7th day of Christmas I pick Girl Waits With Gun for my #July2022 pick.
This is another book that I‘ve owned for years but never got around to reading. I read it for a genre reading class and am so glad I did. It was very interesting and based on actual events. I plan on continuing the series in 2023.

I have mixed feelings about this one. I liked the characters, it had some sharp humor that I really enjoyed, and I‘m definitely a fan of feminist period pieces. But a third of the way in it really started to drag, and didn‘t pick up again until the very end. I would have enjoyed this more if it had been shorter and if the suspense had been played up more.

Fast paced mystery set in 19s. I like the setting and characterisation but the plot was predictable. It didn‘t win as a mystery, but in general it is good. I like two characters in particular Constance Kopp and Sheriff. I am excited to read the next one in this series. Thanks for recommendation @CaitZ 💐
A new #series for #Seriesread2022 @TheSpineView #thebookspinbingo

I have no idea how to plan a swap, but I have an idea. Each participant would start with book 1 of a series on their TBR list, share their thoughts as they read it, then pass it to the next participant. By the end, each participant has read book 1 of a few different series and decides if they want to continue on their own. Inspired by a swap I did with @suvata @Jerdencon and @IndoorDame . I‘d love help with the planning if anyone is interested.

#AlphabetGame #LetterG Thanks @Andrew65 for the tag. @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks
I originally picked this up because of the cover but fell in love with the Kopp Sisters.
@Librarybelle @Christyco125 @Alfoster What's your favorite?

Interesting story and great characters. Not strictly a murder mystery, but there were definitely crimes committed. The ending was a little too neat, but overall this was an enjoyable read. I‘ll certainly be adding this series to my list!

I‘ve been looking for a great series to get sucked into for a while now. I love a story with a strong female leading character (or several of them) and have recently started to really enjoy mystery/crime investigation sort of stories. The #koppsistersseries seems to fit both of those things pretty perfectly.

Congrats to our #LittenAuthor @AmyStewart!! 🥳🥳🥳
Amazon is developing this biographical novel for an hourlong drama series! Family secrets have kept the Kopp Sisters—Constance, Norma and Fleurette—isolated from the world until an unfortunate buggy accident brings trouble to their doorstep. When a gang-member threatens her sisters & the family farm, Constance teams up with local law enforcement to take down the criminals.
Beyond my usual rant about infantilizing women by using GIRL in titles about grown women, otherwise the book was fairly good. Although I thought it dragged a bit in parts.

I finished this today, just in time for tomorrow‘s Bookclub meeting!
I‘d call it a light pick. It was good, well written, just not something I would usually choose to read.
The youngest of the three sisters got on my nerves- quite a spoiled brat.

This felt way too long. She was definitely waiting a lot. The story was really interesting and I enjoyed it but it just felt really long and sometimes slow. I‘ll definitely continue with the series and hope the others don‘t feel like they‘re dragging.
Stats for end of Day 1 for #NutsinMat
Book 1 finished
And have read 100 pages of Network Effect

This book was a lot of fun-I finished it quick. Constance Klopp is a “large” woman for the time, over 6foot and almost 200lbs in 1914 (here with her sister Fleurette). The book opens with her cart being totaled by Henry Kaufman who refused to pay damages then went on to harass and threaten her for months. Constance refuses to back down & eventually becomes the first female deputy. This is the 1st in a series-can‘t wait to start book 2.

Constance explaining when it dawned on her that people don‘t always take advantage of you and that you can ask for help if you need it.

Hey @CarolynM Have you read this? I was just browsing in some op shops and came across it and I just immediately thought of you! It just looks and sounds like a book you would love ❤️
I got it anyway and if you haven‘t read it I shall post it over with my latest letter instalment 😊

GIRL WAITS WITH GUN reads the headline of the newspaper in 1914, referring to the #truestory of Constance Kopp, one of America's first women to be named #deputysheriff. This fictionalized account has roots in history, found in sensationalized cartoons and headlines of the intrepid Misses Kopp. Constance is dragged into her battle with a corrupt businessman and rumored #BlackHander, showing that #goodpeople can't help but to #dogood. 18/365

3.5. This was somehow just what I expected and a bit of a disappointment. Not sure if it is the book or me, but I wasn't as invested in the story as I had hoped to be.
The writing is fine, love Amy Stewart, love that this is based off a true story, love that it is a story about badass women handling themselves. Something about it all fell flat for me though and I will not be continuing the series.

This historical mystery had very memorable characters. I bonded with these independent sisters who chose to live out in the country on their own in 1914 and brave gangsters together. The book was humorous in a way that pointed at society's flaws. I look forward to continuing with the series.

Thank you to Amy Stewart for your generosity! Our little free library patrons will love your books as much as we love them! #lflsteward

Doing a reread before tomorrow's book club meeting. Looking forward to reading book 2!

I had a wildlife filled #audiowalk today! 😄 I found another little turtle, even tinier than the one the other day. Lots of these birds--I don't know what they are, but they have pretty dark blue backs & love these birdhouses. I also saw some red-wing blackbirds & some sort of piper bird running along with long legs. & lots & lots of snails! 🐌

I found a little turtle on my #audiowalk today! Not sure how he got onto the paved path, but I was excited to see him!

I get a kick out of the Kopp #Sisters! So much fun!
#MagicalMay @Eggs
(I was originally going to cover the Flavia cover in the corner since I was focusing on the Kopps, but I then realized that she also has sisters, so I let her stay! 😄)

I am posting one book per day from my extensive to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it, I just do. Some will be old, some will be new. Don‘t judge me - I have a lot of books. Join the fun if you want.
This is day 35 #bookstoread #tbrpile

@MySharonaK sure, I‘ll play! 😄 1. Spinsters. 2. Yes, I ordered two books last week after I started one I had at home only to realize it was part 3 in the series, but I‘m trying really hard not to buy any more and instead work my way through TBR mountain. @riversong153 if you feel like joining in the #two4Tuesday fun!

#quarantinereadingchallenge 1)tagged 2)?A Thousand Splendid Suns/Lillith‘s Brood 3)Half-priced books in Tacoma/Amazon bookstore in University Village 4)View from the Cherry Tree- a childhood fave, unfortunately I rarely reread books as an adult 5)It Chapter 1 [2017 remake] 6)too many to list- [my whole previous post + An American Marriage and The Stand for starters] 7)Fantástica 8)Assata because I usually prefer fiction

Sometimes I‘ll start a book and then just move on from it for almost no reason at all... when this happens I tend to feel like maybe it just wasn‘t that book‘s season yet. This also happens a lot when I designate a book a “travel read” because after the trip is over I tend to put it off to the side even if I didn‘t finish it. Well, now that we‘re spending a lot more time indoors, one of my goals is to take on my DNFY pile (Did Not Finish Yet 😉).

Gatsby finds all of this very tiring. She‘s going to be very shaggy before all of this is over if the current state of her fuzzy fat tum is anything to go by. I had to put down my #bookspin book because I just can‘t concentrate on it. I‘ll go back again sometime. In the meanwhile, I‘m going to start my #ReadWithMrBook choice instead.

I had this on my TBR years ago and it kept getting called back to the library before i got to it. I saw that Amy Stewart is a #litsyauthor so i was pumped to take another look! And it's a series! So munch Kopp sisters fun ahead.

Read this book for the #readwithmrbook challenge. #litsyauthor @AmyStewart Thought it sounded interesting, & I enjoyed the story of 3 strong sisters who are trying to be independent in 1914 when they are expected to rely on men. IRL Constance was the first female deputy. The only problem with liking this book is I now want to continue the series, which adds to my endless TBR. 😉 Also using for #readtheUSA2020 New Jersey

So this is the book that was my Blind Date. I am intrigued! I won't dive into this right away but maybe next weekend.
#BlindDate

I quite enjoyed this fictional account of three real sisters harassed by a man after he crashed into their buggy with his car. The sisters, especially Constance the narrator, live and act in ways not usually undertaken by women in the early twentieth century. The writing is well done, and the voice of Constance particularly shines.

“Girl Waits with Gun” has been on my TBR since before its release and I finally made my way to it.
I thoroughly enjoyed this fictionalized account of three real sisters.
Stewart did an amazing job of bringing these three very different women to life.
The pacing was spot on, keeping me turning the pages to find out what would happen next.
I can‘t wait to read the next installment in the Kopp Sisters series!

Enjoying some #audiowalking The last few days have been spectacular. Almost done with this book, I think I‘m in the minority, as I‘m not loving it. #bookfitnesschallenge

Day 3 #7days7covers. I love all of the covers in the Kopp Sisters series!

Up next, one of my Mr. K‘s finds! #amreading #tbr #amystewart #girlwaitswithgun

Such a good read, I love books set in the early 1900s. Amy Stewart's use of sensory imagery plops you right down into 1914, I can almost touch the painted bread box, run my hand over the home made doilies, smell the factories. Thanks to Litsey and all they wonderful reviews I read on my timeline for this book! Oh yeah, also this cat 🐱 who can't seem to keep her nose out of a book either!!
#catsoflitsy #Cecilthecreasel

This book was a lot of fun to read. I loved that it is based on a true story and had a hard time putting it down because I wanted to see what Constance would do next in order to protect her sisters and stand up to a viscous local bully. I will definitely be reading the rest of this series.

Well, we‘ve gone full circle with #groupS #lmpbc Glad everyone enjoyed this book! Can‘t wait to read the next in the series. And thank you for the lovely Tazo chocolates that accompanied return of the book @minkyb I‘m sad that I missed the signups for the next round! I was traveling when post went up. Hopefully I‘ll get in on the next one!

Hi Litsy friends--Just a quick note to let you know that the first three Kopp novels are $2.99 everywhere ebooks are sold--grab 'em while you can!
