“Foundryside” is fast-paced and exciting to read. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I‘ve ordered “Shorefall” 😊

Ahhhhhh noooooooo…. I need to stop becoming so damned attached to sentient inanimate objects. Sigh.. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Have you ever just reached a point in a book where you just can‘t tell if someone else is evil besides the obvious characters? Cause I find myself asking if certain characters are good witches or bad witches (see the Wizard of Oz Glinda for the reference)
I'd heard good things about this urban fantasy series, nominated for the 2023 Hugo Best Series award, and I found this first book to be a very promising start. I liked the diverse characters, the interesting magic system and the humour.

Just starting on this (Ch 5). Sancia is a thief in Tevanne. She has a special talent which allows her to hear the 'thoughts' of living beings and inanimate objects. Her current job should net her enough money to be able to get rid of her scar and this inconvenient talent which forces her to live apart.
Read it again because I just bought the second one, and it‘s been so long since I‘ve read it! You know those books that you use as your example when you search for what to read next? “What should I read next if I liked…?” This book was that for me. I actually only ever read it because someone gave it to me in a book exchange in my early days of Litsy, and I‘m so grateful. High fantasy with technology twists, excellent characters, adventure… 9/10
I really didn't think I was going to be so invested in the story! At first the build-up was a little slow, and I was thinking of this in parallel to the City of Stairs, but shortly after, the story took off and made me feel very inspired. I would say the only qualm I have with the story is that I dislike harassment and sexual intimidation as a plot device and suffering for female characters. It was just an unnecessary paragraph.
First book of 2023. I liked that this was a fully fictional world with a few key characters to latch onto. The writing feels a bit YA and the story is certainly a hero journey.
🎧 The talking key. No better companion. 😆 Great book! Pleasant surprise!

Bookish Song Nr. 36: All The Things She Said
Yeah, I know my taste in music doesn't win prizes... 😅 But this song poppen up randomly on Deezer, and as soon as it started, it just threw me directly back into the book. I'm not quite sure what exactly it is that makes images from the story coming to my mind when the song plays, but they do. It might be the atmosphere in both media, but I can't really name it.

Once again, Bennett delivers an intense urban fantasy with fascinating world building and wonderful characters. The only flaw to note is that sometimes the intricacies of the magic system were almost too detailed and it made my head spin a bit, but that‘s not really a complaint. Can‘t wait to pick up book 2!
Enjoying the heat and reading fantasy is what I do best.
I really loved this. It was slow going for me in the beginning, but I think it was me and not the book. Once I settled in, I flew through it. I especially loved the world building. Fantasy isn‘t usually my thing (I am 100% a SF gal), but Bennett‘s “industrialized” magic system had enough of a SF feel to it to keep me hooked. The characters were also great. What a fun read! I‘m excited about the next two books in the series!

This is impossible,” said Sancia for the second time.
said the voice.
“You‘re a…a…”
“A…” She swallowed. “A key.”
“Right, but a…a talking key.”
said the voice in her ear.
Hi everyone! I read Foundry Side for the Read-a- thon. I really enjoyed this one. It was a very long book. How's everyone reading going this weekend? #litsy #kindle #booklover
Interesting (annoying though that the resolution is just set up for another book. Pet peeve)

Happy Early Birthday to me!
All this gorgeousness was waiting for me when I got home
I am in love with the new Iron Fey covers. Always meant to read the series so guess now's the time!

I got one chapter into Shorefall and realized I remembered like none of Foundryside 🤣 so time to reread this and then pick up the sequel.
Alright here‘s my “list” for #BookSpin 😁 Pretty similar to last month‘s. I added two books to make up for the two I pulled for this month and then did some rearranging so some of the books have shifted spots.
I‘ve finished one of my #bookspin books and I‘m starting the other today. Hoping to post my review of the first sometime today. Let‘s see what the March #bookspin Gods decide!

After dealing with lots of family drama and losing my grandmother, this book was exactly what I needed to reclaim some calm in my life. 💚
This fantasy novel has a very intriguing world and characters that I became instantly wrapped up in and didn't want to leave behind. It's a fast paced heist storyline with magic and machines. I can't wait to read the next one. 😁
One of the best starts to a series I've read in a long time.
So here‘s the thing. Yes this book had an unique power system. Yes it had a cool character I loved.
And yes there were moments where the plot had me at the edge of my seat.
But this was not a good book.
It was Crass beyond measure. Cursing and Innuendo and oh so much more.
I just can‘t justify reading the next in the trilogy when I come away from reading Foundryside feeling dirty.
No thanks.
I don‘t recommend. ⭐️⭐️
A fast-paced heist book with a really interesting magic system. The characters where also very likeable. I can‘t wait to find out more about the world and it‘s history, will definitely be picking up the second book when it comes out!
FOUNDRYSIDE: Any thoughts? Thinking of purchasing but I‘d like to see what some of you think?
so fun! cool magic system + plot actually examining the ins and outs of the magic system + mellow fantasy setting + snarky Pratchett-esque dialogue + cool female protag and a talking key = ❤️❤️❤️ I was definitely hyped for this and it absolutely lived up...now to wait for Spring for Shorefall 😴

it's cool and cloudy outside finally ☁️
A different story with sigils and a magic key and a girl
Picked up a fantasy to see if it‘ll help get me back in the reading mood because I‘m currently reading a contemporary and it‘s not doing it for me. Also, look at how cute this hufflepuff bookmark is!

Oh👏my👏god👏this👏is👏one👏of👏the👏best👏books👏I've👏read👏in👏a👏long👏time👏
The characters were fantastic! The magic system was really cool. The local town/kingdom structures under the merchant families was SOOOOOOO cool and we'll used. The ending was so sneaky! So excited for the sequel.
I actually returned my library copy and bought my own because HOLY CRAP THIS WAS GOOD.
Like finding a new favorite outfit that you didn‘t know you needed and now wear more than once a week. Fantastic! The scrivings plot line is fantastic- somehow not magical, but not sci-fi with advanced technology and still an excellent fantasy book. Took me a while to ready it because it is dense, but so worth it.
Perfect reading spot, Bath
I enjoyed this book & look forward to reading more. Bennett has created a fascinating world with thieves, merchant houses, magic, & people who want to remake the world. Sancia, a skilled thief, is hired to steal a valuable object & when the heist gets complicated, secrets unravel & danger abounds. My only real complaint is that the voice of one of the characters (a character I like) is so annoying I found it hard to read. Entertaining read.
While excavating I typically wake up at 3:30am for a work day that starts at 5:00. On the weekends I usually manage to sleep in until 4:15, like I did today, or maybe 5:00 if I‘m really lucky. While some might see this as really terrible, I prefer to think of it as bonus reading time (don‘t get enough of that during the week) and an excuse to take an afternoon nap!
I‘ve read some fantastic books so far in 2019! 🥳🥳🥳
Here‘s my contribution to #top6reads. Okay I cheated and counted 2 graphic novels as 1 😁😁
Tagging (if you haven‘t already participated!): @Mommamanzi @BethM @MaleficentBookDragon @SamHeartCoffee @JenlovesJT47 @cobwebmoth @Chrissyreadit @TK421 @Bklover and you and you and you!! 👇🏽
And since it‘s the weekend, I hope to spend some quality time with my next book. I‘ve heard only good things about it so I‘m definitely looking forward to a good read.
Blue skies in Brighton ☀️
Fantastic. Squidapus loved every second. He thought that the first half of the book was carried on the strength of the characters and intrigue and then there second half on the characters and plot explosions. Some truly startling and well done situations, resolutions and reveals. But perhaps most of all the characters! Reading them interact and bounce off each other kept Squidapus turning page after page. Magic that rewrites reality and a heist 👍
Squidapus is super excited to start this book as the Stairs trilogy is his favorite fantasy trilogy. He needs a little straight up fantasy action for a palette cleanser!
