About 20% through and it already got so dull. I decided to go and check the recent reviews and they convinced me in a minute to just DNF it.

15 year old Lana reappears after having disappeared on an activity holiday four days earlier but claims to have no memory of where she was or what she was doing during her disappearance. Her mother finds this difficult to cope with.

I kept reading because I wanted to know what had happened, but quite honestly both Lana and Jen sounded absolutely exhausting to be around.

DNF - Just not in the mood for this one at the moment 😞

This book has me quite confused ratingwise..I can't say I enjoyed the story nor the characters. However, the writing style was very surprising to me and I'm grateful to have come across this book in my reading journey.

Not easy to rate. It's not a mystery/thriller so much as an exploration of how inter-generational mental illness impacts upon family relationships. In the doing it makes for characters (people!) who are not easy to warm to. Emma Healey crafts a fine sentence and the varying chapter lengths emphasise the fractured, on/off mother/daughter relationship. It's good but I wasn't struck by the ending and all-in-all I found it a bit... unrelenting.

I'm soooo grateful that Miss K and I have a much easier relationship than do Jen and Lana. Nevertheless... 💔

This book sounded so good and I'm so disappointed! I hated every single one of the characters.....no one really had a redeeming quality for me. This is the only book I've read of this author, so I'm hoping her other books are better

Another audiobook, another project 😂 Hopefully this keeps up, and my time between semesters ends up being productive in both my reading stats, and the bits and bobs around the apartment that‘s I‘ve been meaning to get to. #summersendreadathon

So I now have 3 print books and a couple of audiobooks actively going at the same time... 🤷🏻‍♀️😎

I had a hard time deciding on a rating. I was really disappointed by the ending. I kept expecting some exciting twist or interesting explanation that never came and the characters weren't very likable. I was annoyed by most of their behavior throughout the book. And yet I did find the story compelling enough to finish in a single day and there were aspects that I identified strongly with in Lana. All in all worth a read but it didn't blow me away.

Next up!

It‘s nice to read a book that‘s chosen for you, with no preconceptions about what it will be like. I was pleasantly surprised to discover it was something entirely different from what I expected when I finally ventured in. I‘ll say no more.

I quite liked "Elizabeth is Missing", so I was looking forward to this. It was a big disappointment to me. I was really bored by it. In some ways I felt for Jen, but I also thought she didn't handle things well. There was a glimmer of an "unreliable narrator" aspect, but that fizzled out and was never explained. The ending was very tidy and there was no big twist or anything very exciting. Blah. ⭐⭐

Very hard for me to review this book as I have very close personal experience with the issues identified here. They are not sanitised either, you don‘t really like mother or daughter. I would say if you haven‘t been through these things don‘t judge. Hard as a mother not to think it‘s all your fault and why can‘t I fix it.
The ending was a bit neat, but I thought it was a better book than Elizabeth is Missing.

I just saw this book advertised on Facebook. The description makes it sound identical to Good As Gone by Amy Gentry. Has anyone read it? What did you think?

Just finished this and aside from the fact that it took me ages to read, I‘m not sure what else to say! It was well written but I‘m not sure that I liked or sympathised with any of the characters or even really cared about them, which considering it was about mental health, is kind of a shame. The author is giving a talk at my library tomorrow, so I am interested to find out more about the book from her. Maybe it‘ll help me understand it better

Jen's daughter goes missing for four agonizing days. When Lana is found, unharmed, in the countryside, everyone thinks the worst is over. But Lana refuses to tell anyone what happened. The once-happy, loving family return to London, where things start to fall apart. Lana begins acting strangely: refusing to go to school, and sleeping with the light on. As Lana stays silent, Jen tries to reach out to a daughter who has become a stranger.

Making the most of being awake since 4am by reading more of this. Emma Healey is giving a talk at my library in a week or so, so I‘m excited to hear her talk about this book. It‘s already giving me chills. I know I would FREAK OUT if one of my girls went missing and couldn‘t tell me about it!

Meet Jen a mother of two daughters, Meg is a lesbian who is pregnant and has broken up with her girlfriend and Lana is depressed and suicidal and has been found after 4 days of being missing. This is difficult to read at some points but overall I enjoyed the book. Feel the author has handled the subjects well and I‘ll definitely think of this book each time I look at the sky.

Emma Healey‘s first novel, 𝐸𝑙𝑖𝑧𝑎𝑏𝑒𝑡𝒉 𝐼𝑠 𝑀𝑖𝑠𝑠𝑖𝑛𝑔, caught my attention when I noticed somebody reading the French translation on a train. Somehow, I never got around to reading it. Kinda underwhelmed by this one. It just missed the mark - not by much, but missed is missed. The depiction of a fraught mother/teenage daughter relationship was largely authentic but covered familiar ground. But it was the ending that did for me. I felt the whole thing was building up to something really juicy but the resolution seemed rushed, mundane and predictable.

Another one added to my #TBR pile which is growing by the day 🤤😕 ah well 😄 I couldn't resist this beautiful book and thriller/mystery story of a missing child returned but no answers for where she was or what happened.

I really liked this ARC I received from NetGalley. It‘s a bit of slow burn mystery with a real sense of unease throughout. I think some people may find it doesn‘t have enough action but it worked for me !
