Sunday Silence
Sunday Silence: A Novel | Nicci French
37 posts | 26 read | 15 to read
It started with Monday. But it doesn't end with Sunday. Read Sunday Silence, the new novel in the series that LOUISE PENNY calls "fabulous, unsettling, and riveting" and brace yourself for the breathtaking series finale in summer 2018. Lover of London, gifted psychologist, frequent police consultant Frieda Klein is many things. And now she's a person of interest in a murder case. A body has been discovered in the most unlikely and horrifying of places: beneath the floorboards of Frieda's house. The corpse is only months old, but the chief suspect appears to have died more than seven years ago. Except as Frieda knows all too well, he's alive and well and living in secret. And it seems he's inspired a copycat... As the days pass and the body count rises, Frieda finds herself caught in a fatal tug-of-war between two killers: one who won't let her go, and another who can't let her live. Crackling with suspense, packed with emotion, Sunday Silence is a psychological thriller perfect for fans of Elizabeth George and Paula Hawkins.

A body under the floorboards, a body in a freezer, a drugged niece in a graveyard. Those things were the start of it.

SUNDAY SILENCE will definitely appeal to psychological thriller fans and repeat readers of Nicci French‘s books.

This starts right where the last book ended. In addition to what happened then, someone is also targeting Frieda Klein‘s friends and family. That person has to be found.

My weekend reading was the penultimate frieda klein novel in which her friends suddenly are the target of violence. The question is who is responsible and where is Dean reeves.
Not sure if I should read the final book very soon or wait. The readers dilemma.

Although starting at book seven in the series was most likely not the best idea (took a bit to figure the characters out), this was a good mystery that was fast moving. I've already googled the rest of the series.

Oof! Why didn‘t I stumble upon this series before? Frieda Klein is such an intriguing character and badass cop; this is the latest volume. Now I have to go back and read every volume in order. Apparently Sunday Morning picks up immediately from the book before. Frieda discovers a body beneath her floor and everything explodes from there. Fast and furious, loved it.

@Tove_Reads & I were reading this together over five days but got so exciting that we both decided we needed to read it faster. I feel this is the best one by far in this series and they are all very strong so this shows how good this book was. I love the feeling of the friends and ‘family‘ of Frieda that came through in this book, they are the key strength of the series. A great last sentence that makes you wasn‘t to pick up the last book.

Andrew65 Must get to the library to pick up the next book! 6y
Tove_Reads I have it already, so let me know when you‘re ready to start! 6y
Andrew65 I would suggest next weekend, likely to be Thursday before I can get to the library with work, and Saturday before I can start it. (edited) 6y

As usual in this series the book starts with a map of one ofLondon‘s hidden rivers. I was brought up a few miles fro, this area if London but never heard of the river Neckinger. Love a map with a book, even better when it is an area you know. #MapsofLitsy

Velvetfur Oohh interesting, I've never heard of that one! 6y
Andrew65 @Velvetfur No I hadn‘t either, strange how two streets seem to follow it‘s course. 6y
Velvetfur @Andrew65 Do you know if there's any remnants of it today? Like with the Fleet River... 6y

Andrew65 @Velvetfur It looks like most of it is underground now but can still be seen at St. Saviour‘s Dock as it gets ready to flow into the Thames. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/River_Neckinger (edited) 6y

Starting Sunday Morning Coming Down which I am reading with @Tove_Reads . This is book seven in the excellent Freida Klein series, there are only eight books in the series so I think events will be leading to a crescendo. Book 6 ended on a cliff hanger so looking forward to this.

Tove_Reads I read that far as well. I‘m puzzled. So many people murdered. Senseless. @Andrew65 (edited) 6y
Tove_Reads @andrew65 The best one in the series. Although, it really feels like one book, not eight. I have no clue how they can write an ending I‘ll appreciate. I hope they do, but how... 6y

Sadly, every series will eventually end. This is the second to last book with Frieda Klein. It‘s been great to read the series in sync with @Andrew65 We will read the last two books in the series in December. When should we read the books? Starting 1st and 15th? #buddyread

Tove_Reads @EadieB @andrew65 I just ordered it from the UK, my library didn‘t get it for me. I will get it by November 30. Will probably get it earlier, but it‘s a good thing they don‘t promise too much. 6y
EadieB @Tove_Reads @Andrew65 The next best time for me would be starting 12/9 through 12/14. 6y
Tove_Reads @EadieB @andrew65 Both work for me. I just need the book. I‘ll let you know! Usually they send the package promptly. (edited) 6y
Andrew65 Let me know when you are reading it and I will try to work other things around it. @Tove_Reads @EadieB 6y
Tove_Reads @Andrew65 you done? 6y
Andrew65 @Tove_Reads Yes finished it late last night. An interesting ending, but overall possibly my least favourite in the series. Mainly due to the central story which didn‘t hold my interest enough and would have liked a bit more of the other central characters. 6y
Tove_Reads @andrew65 I really loved it to a point, maybe to 50%, but then something happened. I found especially the ending to be a bit lame. Why Wouk someone like him kill ALL of them for THAT reason. Somehow it didn‘t add up. Sure, people do for love, but I just didn‘t feel it. How freaky was it that D have been several times in her apartment? And that he worked with J? D is one of the creepiest ever, even though he does not get much attention. 6y
Andrew65 @Tove_Reads Yes a creepy character that is mostly just alluded too. I think you‘ve hit the nail on the head about why I didn‘t enjoy it that much. I‘d much rather have had a current murder too. I wonder what Dean wants. He seems to help protect her but never come near her. 6y

Frieda Klein is once again in the midst of murder and mayhem, this time focusing of those near and dear to her. I have to say this wasn‘t my favorite book in the series, at times it felt a bit pedestrian and obvious but as the penultimate novel in the series it effectively built the tension up for the final installment coming soon.

This is the first book I have read in this series but it did not matter at all and it was easy to read as a stand alone book. Frieda is chasing a shadow although there is a growing belief that the man she is chasing is alive. Her friends and family become victims of crime but who is carrying out these attacks is it the shadow she is hunting or someone else. A fast paced excellent read
