Fiona vermoedt dat er opzet in het spel is en dat ook zij gevaar loopt. Ze vlucht naar New York en werkt zich daar op naar de top van de Manhattanse theehandel. I ❤️ this 📖! If you love period pieces, vintage, and atmospheric reads, choose it. Do note: this is not top of the line historical fiction; it‘s a fictionalized tale of Victorian England & turn-of-the century NY. Some of it is far-fetched; it relies heavily on the good v. evil binary, which creates a one-dimensional POV. Don‘t expect the 📖 to be what it is not. Read it for what it is - a delicious, melodramatic slow burn with a fierce female MC.

sprainedbrain I‘ve had this on my shelf for so long. Love your review! 3y

1. I set my # as 60. In all candor, I don‘t care about the # of books just as long as I‘m making time each day to read. I also want to read the books on my TBR and TBF shelves. 2. It‘s a phrase - Steadily Riding the Waves 3. ❤️ the tagged book. It is from my TBF shelf. #thoughtfulthursday @MoonWitch94

I thought this had promise, but I ended up skimming much of the second half. Too many coincidences, too much going on, yet it felt very slow-moving. I won‘t be reading the next one.

So I was looking around on my shelves and I happened to notice that I have a lot of chunksters that I have not read yet. I would really like to get through them all.

I am thinking of dubbing next year (2020) as the #YearOfTheChunksters

Who's with me??? 😃
Who's got a bunch of really big books that they want to get through next year????

Amiable I read a number of chunksters every year, so I‘m in! 😀 5y
SamanthaMarie Ooo that is really fun!!! I'm thinking maybe in a decade I could manage a challenge like that 😅 this season of life, not so much. But would love to watch your progress!! 5y
tdrosebud I've got several as well, so I'm in. It of curiosity, what do you consider a chunkster? 5y
See All 13 Comments
BeansPage @tdrosebud I'm talking like over 400 pages 😲😂😂😂 5y
tdrosebud @TheReadingMermaid Cool. Most times I see 500 pages, which is what I generally go by. I've seen people use as high as 700 pages though. 5y
Amiable @tdrosebud Every year I read at least one book that is 1,000 pages or more. To me, that‘s a chunkster! 😀 5y
Cortg Me, me, me! I'm currently reading a chunkster but I have a handful of them on my bookshelf I'd love to pick up and tackle! 5y
Crazeedi I mostly pick books that have minimum 300 pages, I rarely even look at skinny books! 5y
Crazeedi @TheReadingMermaid 500 pages is a normal one to me! 😉 5y
LapReader Count me in. I want to read Outlander. 5y
marleed What a great idea. But honestly if I joined in and had 1 chunkster as my goal it would be a major TBR accomplishment for me. There are so many stories I want to consume that my chunksters stand steady as support at the bottom of my TBR pyramid! 5y
jb72 Sounds like fun. I‘ll join next year! I have plenty of books over 400 pages. Great goal! 5y
rubyslippersreads Maybe this will be the year I get to Middlemarch and 5y

Tosay I finished the #audiobook. I like the book but some sequences are very long. It is a wonderful lovestory which played in the 19. Century. I like how Donnelly describe the roles of women in the society. I don't like that Jack the Ripper have a role in the book. Why in the most books which play in the 19. Century in London Jack has a role?

I had this also as book in my shelf. At the spine is a rose, so it's a book boon for #bookbingo

I listend to the audio-book and it was a welcomed take-away to another time in history. Even though the beginning seemed outstretched it took on some speed until you get pulled in😄😉 you had time to get to know the characters and feel with them, especially Fiona (main character). 😊

Welp, I overslept and have 14.5 hours of reading left to do today, so I think it's safe to say I'm not making my 24 hour goal. But let's see how far I can get! I'm currently at 9hr22m. For the #24in48 #undertheradar challenge, my pick is The Tea Rose by Jennifer Donnelly. It‘s been one of my faves for over 10 years. The whole series is amazing. It has everything - history, romance, adventure, kick-ass ladies - what more could you want?! @24in48

#TBRtemptation post 2! This is the 1st installment in the The Tea Rose series. East London, 1888, Fiona works in a tea factory hoping to one day own a shop with her love, Joe, a costermonger's son. Her dreams crumble when a he encounters a dark, brutal man and, fleeing death, travels to NYC. She'll eventually climb to the top of Manhattan's tea trade. She'll have to go back to London to confront the past though. #blameLitsy #blameMrBook 😎

buecherwurm This reminds me to “Die Teeprinzessin“ by Hilke Rosenboom (there doesn't seem to be an english edition). Does anyone know this? It's YA and I read it several years ago but I remember loving it and re-reading it several times. 7y
Magdawrites It's a lovely book! Her prose is beautiful and very visual. It is kind of romantic though, so reader beware 😉 7y
Magdawrites @Lcsmcat that's when I learned costermonger too! 7y
julesG It seems I'm the only one who bailed on this book a few chapters in. I had a problem with some artistic liberty (historic inaccuracy) and bailed on behalf of that. 7y
