I decided it was time for reread, it‘s been a looooong time. It‘s waaaaay more messed up than I remember it being but I still love it 💀
After all these years I have managed to hang on to all the early paperbacks with the peekaboo covers, I‘m so glad I never got rid of them. The only one that didn‘t make it was my original Flowers in the Attic, I lost that one years ago 😩 I do have a first edition in hardcover tho.

#LittensDressedInBlood Today's prompt is Unwanted Guest.

I honestly have no idea why this is the first book that popped up in my head for the prompt, although I suspect that 12 year old me read this book entirely too often and still have unresolved rage towards Vera, who's return to the family house of Whitefern promises nothing but bad news for Audrina. I guess sometimes books are a kind of therapy, and others leave you in need of therapy...

MaleficentBookDragon This book totally messed with my head. I was really too young to read this. Have you read the sequel? 3y
Clwojick I just read this last year. So messed up! Lol 3y
MidnightBookGirl @MaleficentBookDragon Nope, I just can't handle the changes Andrew Neiderman makes to the stories. But I read lots of spoilers on it. 3y
MidnightBookGirl @Clwojick Yeah, I'm sure reading so much VC Andrews as a tween helped warp me into the semi-functional weirdo adult I am today. 3y

Quite a bit disappointing. I suppose I‘m too old to be the target demographic, but I suppose I can see why it would appeal to a YA audience with all the adult content, it was almost awkwardly graphic. I predicted the majority of twists, but still found the last third of the book (the big reveals) a somewhat interesting read. The one word I saw in most reviews was problematic and I completely agree with that.

#bookspinbingo status update:

Bad news: with the husband getting diag‘d with covid (he‘s doing okay) I‘ve been solo parenting two toddlers in quarantine while working, so reading has been limited. ALSO, he‘s isolating with all my physical books on the board.

Good news: knocked out both my #bookspin and #doublespin AND two of the books on this line are e-books. With his self isolation ending this week, I still have a chance!

aperfectmjk Good luck. Sending good vibes and well wishes your way! 😘 4y

What should I read if I want something as absurd as My Sweet Audrina but not another VC Andrews novel??? I need #recommendations ‼️

tstan If you want something from that time period, anything by Sidney Sheldon or Jackie Collins- they‘re over the top campy drama. A great horror novel that‘s got the VC Andrews vibe is Rosemary‘s Baby by Ira Levin. 7y

I stopped by the library this morning to pick up My Sweet Audrina. I‘ve never read any V.C. Andrews, I really don‘t know how I missed it as a young teen, except I‘ve always been a bit of a snob. Anyways, one of my favorite podcasts, My Favorite Murder, suggested it, and will be discussing it on an upcoming episode, so why not? 🤓
Are there any Litten #murderino s out there?

emtobiasz 🙋🏽 7y
parttimedomestic @emtobiasz yay! Are you planning on reading this? Or do you read any true crime? 7y
emtobiasz @parttimedomestic I have to admit, I don't know if I've read any true crime. It hasn't been my genre in the past, but I love the quick & dirty retellings on the podcast. I'm thinking about picking up this book though-- I've never read VC Andrews and I hear her stuff is bananas! 7y

parttimedomestic @emtobiasz I feel the same! I‘ve tried to read a few Ann Rule books in the past, but I just can‘t get into it like the podcast! Maybe I should try them on audio... 7y

I've been meaning to read this one for a while, and finally had a good excuse when the MFM podcast decided to do an episode about it. I enjoyed it but it was so problematic. I'm sure that if I had read it as a teenager I would have been obsessed with it. It's a gothic YA novel with lots of twists, and lots of murder. I give it 3.75 ✨s

On last week's episode of the My Favorite Murder podcast, Karen and Georgia announced that they'd be doing a book club episode on My Sweet Audrina. Obviously I had to listen to the audiobook. Holy problematic! This is my first time reading it and my goodness does it need an update. Can't wait to hear what they say about it on MFM #murderino #problematic

Laura317 Good advice! 😂😂😂 7y
MidnightBookGirl I read this back in junior high or high school, and at the time I loved the gothic feel to it (although I hated the ending). I'll admit, 40 year old me is horrified that I read this as a kid! 7y
Chocamanda @MidnightBookGirl if I read this as a teen, all of my middle-child triggers would have been set off! I'm sure I would have thought that I related to Audrina way more than I actually did. I'm glad I read it as an adult. 7y

Fans of My Favorite Murder - the book Karen & Georgia talk about in the latest episode is only $1.99 for the ebook on Amazon and Barnes & Noble. I know they mention buying a used paperback that contains the tears and hormones of teenagers, but I couldn‘t say no to that price! #ssdgm

I never read her books when I was young, but I remember girls hungrily clutching VC Andrews novels in middle school. In my late 20s I read Flowers In the Attic after being incredulous of the summary. My interest waned after If There Be Thorns. Recently, a coworker forwarded me a description of this novel from GRs and we decided to form a bookclub. VC Andrews' demented imagination is unbounded in Audrina. The novel is disturbing as it should be.

This book was my first read of the month, I confess it had been a while since I read this author, but this book honestly was one of the creepiest things I've read in a while. It was so morbid throughout, a proper gothic family saga, and the ending was chilling and confusing. Apparently there's a sequel by the ghost writer? I can't say I'll read it for fear of it not being as good as this, but we'll see. #bookish #booklover #bookaddict #reading

thebookdiviner VC Andrews is fantastic! The ghost writer is nowhere near as good, but her original work is just as creepy as My Sweet Audrina 7y

I went to an all-girls school that was formerly a convent. There were some strict, bizarre rules like no circulating & exchanging novels. I guess coz novels corrupt the mind? Bahaha. Naturally all we did was find ways to exchange wicked novels by Sidney Sheldon, Judith McNaught, Nora Roberts but our fav was V.C. Andrews. This one in particular was so screwed up it left us stunned. I'm still stunned. #SoBadItsGood #maybookflowers @RealLifeReading

LauraBrook I loved this one of hers when I was a teen. Just found out that there's a new sequel that was recently published, thanks to Litsy! 8y
batsy @LauraBrook I had no idea there's a sequel! There's something about her books that seem to be irresistible to teen girls. 8y
LauraBrook @batsy I know, right? Like teen girl catnip. And I didn't know about the sequel until a few months ago, but I bought it IMMEDIATELY just to have it on hand. I wonder what reading her will be like in my 30s?!? 8y

Audrina has always lived in the shadow of her older, deceased sister. Daddy wants her to meet up to the standards of his firstborn, but how can she ever live up when she can barely even remember one day to the next?

2/5 stars. I've enjoyed other VC Andrews titles I've read, but this one was such a dreadful chore to work through. When I finally skimmed the last fifth or so of it, I found an ending that was predictable and disappointing.
