Filled with lush descriptions (that don‘t bore the average reader) of colonial Philadelphia & Hudson Valley, this tale about Mrs. Peggy Shippen Arnold was a quick read. Told from the POV of Clara, Peggy‘s maid, the plan to betray, manipulate, and destroy the Revolutionaries unfolds. The best part was the last chapter. A great history lesson for readers who enjoy Colonial America.

pickJust finished this last night. I loved Allison Pataki's The Accidental Empress and Sisi... And this also did not disappoint. It's a gripping, immersive look into the life of Peggy Shippen Arnold through the eyes of her maid Clara. Each time I picked this up, I was transported to Revolution era Philadelphia with its vivid depiction of redcoats, rebels, and high society.
Met Mrs. Pataki last month. She was so gracious and has a delicious sense of humor, which inspired me to start reading this.
Not usually my style of reading but it was recommended by a friend... who decided to mail it to me to make sure I read it. So this is my current read to get through before I can attack my new book haul. It's surprisingly good so far.
Philadelphia played a huge role in the Revolutionary War and the fight for freedom & these 2 books show different sides- A historical fiction about the woman that led to the downfall of a patriot & a biography on 1 of the Founding Fathers. Loved the Traitor's Wife & have always been intrigued by Benjamin Franklin (this have been in my tbr pile for years) #philadelphiafreedom #rockinmay
