Imogen isn‘t really Imogen… but who is she? And who is she running from?
And where is the really Immy now?

This was the definition of “ok” for me. I read it for a reading challenge prompt and it didn‘t take me long at all. The reverse timeline was interesting, but I knew from the start what would probably happen. Not bad, but not anything I‘ll remember in a week‘s time. I switched the the audiobook at one point because it was driving me mad not knowing how to pronounce Jule. (It‘s Jewel, not Julie).

Completely forgot to post my #bookspin #bookspinbingo for the month. First time trying hopefully we can get a bingo.

The story is original and mysterious. The concept of trying to replace someone fully and seeing the exploits of a con artist was cool. But the constant time jumps are confusing. Overall, this book has a genius concept but a poor execution because of the time jumps that meddles with the reader.

This was fun. The book starts with Julie running from the law in Mexico, then goes backward in time to learn how she got there. There were some fun twists, and I liked the ending. I had no problem with the reverse time, which was nice.

A wild ride! Told in reverse chronological order, this book has some Talented Mr. Ripley vibes. I was immediately sucked into Jule‘s story!

I got 👏🏾 so 👏🏾 sucked 👏🏾 in 👏🏾 by 👏🏾 this 👏🏾 book. It‘s not the first book by E. Lockhart that I‘ve read that I really liked. I highly recommend.

How many times can one person reinvent themselves? This book, told backwards, tells the story of Jules, and Imogen, two young women and their twisty friendship.

🤔 This had a very different ending from what I‘d imagined. It was abrupt. I thought there would be more to the story, but I guess it was fitting. I was engrossed in this story from the beginning, and it just got more interesting as we went back in time to see how events led to the current situation.

This was a really good book. Jules, well she had some major issues. I loved the way the book went backwards, and it wasn‘t hard to follow. The last chapter gave a small twist that has had me thinking since I finished it! When you become like someone else, when do you lose yourself?

Not bad, very quick read, and Jule is a bad bad girl. I am not sure why she is exactly so devoid of that part in the brain that says killing people is bad, and think a little bit of background for this would have been helpful for the story. In any event, there were some surprises and it was a suspenseful quick read.

I love 'We Were Liars' by this author. This was nothing like that. Good, but not at all what I was expecting. Fast paced, kept me guessing, well written, but probably wouldn't have read it if I had known the actual plot. Just barely a pick for me.

Be prepared for a fast, wild ride with this read. Jule, or is it Imogen, is on the run from someone. The book starts out at Chapter 18 and works its ways backward chronologically down to Chapter 1 then with a plot twist, the final chapter is 19. The main character has survival skills, is manipulative and calculating; in spite of this, I found myself rooting for her. Between her actions of toughness she shows a vulnerability we can all relate to.

I enjoyed this book and it was full of twists, but at times I thought it was missing something. This is my 4th completed book in the #24b4monday readathon. I was hoping to get more reading done today but I have been battling a headache most of the day. So hopefully the headache is gone tomorrow!

This one disappointed me. The beginning was slow and soft, but the premise kept me going. The middle picked up to a disappointing ending. Readers never get a chance to know the real personality behind the main character, nor her true background. By having it written in reverse, the introductions to characters and setting were too late, though it did help with the mystery aspect. It revealed one character particularly well, but that was about it.

Never read a book that was written like this. A great YA novel. 💫💫💫💫

Good story line, low key annoying. Not bad but definitely not great

I listened to this in audi0book form. I liked the elements of it but towards the end it seemed repetitive and boring. I also found it kind of confusing as well. I did like the characters though so that's why the rating is 2 stars instead of one. listening to it in audiobook form made it drag for some reason.

I loved WE WERE LIARS.. hope this one is good too!

I don‘t know how to write a review for this book.

While the author wrote it in reverse chronological format which I found to be interesting and refreshing it didn‘t help me to understand Jules. She was so good at being a fraud that as a reader I still have no idea who she is. I wish we would have gotten some real enough info about her after what really happened to her parents but you never find out.

Quick and enjoyable read.

9/10 Well written, lots of interesting twisty turns that answer all the questions and none of them at the same time. Definitely worth reading, keeps you interested and entertained.

Very confusing at first but it‘s unlike anything I had read before and it‘s very surprising.

Four stars. I enjoyed the secrets and the lies in this book a lot

You get introduced to these characters as being one thing. As the book continues, you realize more and more how false those first impressions were. Everything that was right side up, is upside down.
This has got to be a record for me, reading three books back to back that have murder in them!

This one was more like a TV drama series. Not a serious book at all. Just a lot of good old fashioned everyone-will-probably-end-up-dead kind of book.

Not as good as We Were Liars, the obviously unreliable narration reduced the drama and mystery. Also the reverse order of events eventually annoyed me and I read the novel from ch1 to ch 19. It was a much better text in order.

Another psychological thriller with unlikeable characters. Wasn‘t too fond of the backwards storyline either.

Such a unique book! At first I struggled with how it's told backwards but once you get used to it, it just makes it so much more gripping.

I loved having a main character that wasn't the typical female character. Every event was unexpected and even the ending was not what you'd predict. All the characters seem to have so many layers to them.

Definitely recommend!

I didn‘t realize it until a good chunk into the book, but the story is told backwards. I was extremely confused at first, but once I realized things were moving in reverse everything started to fall into place. Not my favorite book ever, but still a good suspense read!

Unexpected.

This was an interesting YA thriller, and Lockhart is skilled in subtly crafting a character‘s psyche. No one was particularly likable in this book but they didn‘t need to be. I thought the ending was anticlimactic, and I was never super pulled in until halfway through. Overall, a decent read, but not Lockhart‘s best.

I love it when my library books come in.

I know this book has been divisive because of the structural trick but I really enjoyed it. Definitely a tribute/ode to Talented Mr Ripley and with an extremely unreliable narrator. Really liked the “Memento” like approach of going back in time from the start of the story so that it is slowly revealed how the narrator got to this point.

Genuine Fraud walks a thin line between clever and gimmicky, which makes it a somewhat frustrating read. Lockhart is good at crafting unlikeable, nasty characters, and complicated family dynamics. Was this entertaining? Yes. Was it successful? Not entirely.

Okay. Read this book if you want a mind-fuck of a story about how far a girl will go to become someone else.

This is a generous pick (and what pushed it over from a so-so is Rebecca Soler is the narrator of the audiobook). This book kept me interested and wanting to know what happened but the ending was very anticlimactic.

Squeezing in some reading time during my lunch hour at work! Wish I could have a long vacation and just spend it reading :)

The first book I read by this author (We Were Liars) totally blew my mind. With this one, partly because I have a sense of the author‘s style and partly because the word fraud is in the title, nothing was as shocking. The narrative is told mostly in reverse, similar to All the Missing Girls. Even without the element of surprise, I started this last night and finished today so it was a gripping and fast read!

Needed a break from all that is The Name of the Wind for something a bit lighter so I grabbed up this #ARC from #BookCon last year! Hoping to finish this today!
