I enjoyed this second book in the series more than the first. The numerous nomes have seemed to grow on me. 😂
Read this as my #doublespin for January!

gossamerchild The interactions with the humans are just hilarious. I can imagine how befuddling it was to wake up and see that note under my face. Not to mention being tied up in the first place. So funny! 6y

rockpools I agree @gossamerchild ! Such a fun read - I‘ll definitely be going back to read Truckers. I thought Grimma and Dorcas made a great pairing. And I lost far too much of my life googling Bromeliad tree frogs! 6y
TheSpineView I too loved the humor but I also liked how Pratchett stuck important ideas into the story. For example, "If you have a purpose in life, you can feel six inches tall." He was subtle about this.

6y
Gezemice I read all three at the same time - when three Pratchett books come in one volume, what else can you do? This was fun but I felt it was rather similar to the first one - must escape from endangered habitat via driving a vehicle, and there are power struggles, etc. I did enjoy Grimma and Dorcas. And there was some commentary on the dangers of religious fanatism, too. 6y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa I‘ll agree with all of thee above, I read ahead into the next part because I just had to see how the other group made out with their half of the adventure. And yes @RachelO I loved the frogs, and @TheSpineView and @Gezemice how Pratchett weaves in those little moral and witty commentaries on society into his stories. 6y
Iblu Really liked the trilogy, again full of witty symbolism and reflections on many aspects of human life. Love the effort of seeing things through the fresh eyes of a different species. Sir Terry had such a rich fantasy and used it so well to talk about small and big paradoxes of life... 6y
julesG @Iblu Glad you caught up! I liked the trilogy but am a Discworld person. I enjoy the witticisms and marvel at Sir Terry's skill, though. 6y

Spent a lovely morning in the garden, reading this - hard to believe as back with grey drizzle & crazy winds now.

Loads of fun. The Borrowers crossed with Gulliver‘s Travels, in a quarry, with added trucks. And Grimma and Dorcas make a fab double-act. Then I fell down a delightful internet rabbit-hole looking up Bromeliads & their residents.

I know I‘m doing #OokBookClub back to front, but I‘ll definitely be going back to read Truckers.

TrishB We‘ve got the crazy winds and grey drizzle too 😁 6y
rockpools @TrishB Blyeurgh! But I did mend the garden fence this morning, which was suffering from the last round of crazy winds, so I feel like I‘ve achieved (and can now go back to my books!) 6y
squirrelbrain @trishb - so have we now, but it was gorgeous this morning! @RachelO - well done on mending the fence - you deserve more racing time now! 😁 6y
rockpools @squirrelbrain 😂😂 That‘s the whole country covered then. Think we‘re all entitled to the rest of the day doing nothing. 📚📚📚 6y
TrishB @squirrelbrain I‘ve done all the running around domestic stuff today too! Just sitting down to read 👍🏻 6y

I finished this on Thursday & somehow completely forgot to write up a review...(I had intended a long reading weekend, but it didn‘t work out that way, maybe that‘s how I missed it.).

Anyway... this was a fun read, I love Pratchett‘s wit, I enjoyed seeing these characters again and their crazy interactions with the big(ger) world. Based on the ending though I can‘t wait to read the final installment... I think they have quite the story to tell!

julesG 👏👏👏 I hope to fit it in this coming weekend. 6y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @julesG It‘s a quick read! 6y

Grey, windy & drizzly here. Which kind of suits the mood. I‘ve admitted maybe I need to get some help in ironing my head out, which was in survival mode last year, and now, well, isn‘t being so practical.

BUT I did allow/force myself out to collect library holds & run some errands. Reading Envy on the podcast, as it wasn‘t an audiobook kind of a day & she usually puts me in a good mood.

Hope everyone‘s doing ok in that weather! #litsywalkers

quietlycuriouskate Truly hoping you find some good help, and generally wishing you peace and happiness and all the rest of it! ❤ 6y
rockpools @kathedron Thank you Kate. Guess it was going to happen sometime. Hope January‘s treating you kindly 😘 6y

rockpools @youneverarrived Thank you 😊 x 6y
rockpools @batsy Maybe 🌞🌻 is what I need! Maybe I should pick up some holiday brochures! 6y
gradcat I‘m not sure what kind of help you need, but I will be thinking about you & hoping you get it. Me, personally, I want to thank you for posting such a lovely photo...it made me happy 😊👍 🙏 6y
rockpools Thanks @gradcat . I do love living in a part of the world where the houses are painted cheerful colours - makes all the difference on a grey day. 6y
squirrelbrain You‘re right Rachel - it was likely to happen after the year you had last year. You‘ve made the first step in realising you need some help so I hope you find it soon. ❤️ We‘re all here for you of course! 😘 6y
rockpools @squirrelbrain You‘re a star Helen! I seriously (unrealistically) expected to start getting back to normal from Jan 1st, and instead went 😭. 2 weeks of that is quite enough! 6y
Traci1 What a pretty little street. Even in the drizzle it looks like a lovely place to be. 6y
Kaye I‘ve no clue what happened last year and Not My Business , so may I just say you have hundreds of backers in LitsyLand and we are all pulling for you. I hope you find help and get things sorted out . (edited) 6y
DarcysMom I hope the support you have here helps buoy you as you seek out whatever help will work best for you 6y
rockpools @Traci1 😊 It is! 6y
rockpools @DarcysMom Thank you 😘 6y
rockpools Thanks @kaye . Did the whole breast cancer thing last year. Physically ok, done with treatment for now (apart from tablets) but apparently my head hasn‘t caught up yet. 6y
Kaye @RachelO I‘m sorry, I didn‘t know about that. I‘m glad you‘re on the road to recovery physically. I‘ve had cancer before so I know what a challenge it is to overcome ,physically and mentally. Just take one day at a time. Don‘t try to look at the big picture or do the what if thing. The best way to recover is to have a tough , positive attitude. You‘ve gotten through it and come out the other side. Enjoy each day. As time goes by it gets easier. 6y
jhod Sending hugs Rachel and really looking forward to seeing you again at our reading retreat. It's great you're doing something positive about getting better xx 6y
Lauram I love this beautiful photo. I hope you‘re in a better place today. 6y

If you come to my house for Trick or Treating, you get a book! Also candy and mandarin oranges with jack o lantern faces, but I‘m sure the books will be a big draw. 😂
I got them at the library sale, so it‘s win- win, right?

AlaMich That‘s a good idea! Do you have the kids pick one? 6y

Diggers suffers a bit from middle-of-seriesitis, but still enjoyable. The story kinda repeats itself: the nomes have to leave, there are leadership struggles, religious fanatism and disbelief, and confrontations with humans. I enjoyed Grimma‘s expanded role. Overall, more of a 3.5 star. ⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2
