It was fine. I'm definitely not the intended audience -- I'm sure it's great for 9-year-old boys. I read it for a prompt.

Catching even numbers has become a bit of an obsession. 😬 Thanks all! 😘
Litsy!! This book has everything! I picked it up over the summer at a local used shop thinking, "oh Mark Haddon has a kids book." Well, yeah, but aliens! Teenagers! Evil teachers! Mystery! Scotland! In 194 pages I thought of Flavia, Nancy Drew, Harry Potter, and A Wrinkle in Time. Check it out! He originally wrote it in '92 (different title), but was urged to republish, so he updated it in 2009 and this is considered the 1st edition.
