This is a amazing book about a lost city in a mountain that no one could name. A boy is training to become a warrior and meets a girl that teaches him ways to run jump and survive. This is a amazing book that I would hope you read to
REREAD 7/25/2021: This was just as much fun the second time around. Kai and Rat‘s friendship is the absolute best!
I‘m not sure why I waited so long to read this one, but I‘m glad I finally did! I love the vaguely historical setting and the complexities of friendships across nations.
Another great graphic novel that I so loved and adore so much as well.
A wonderful, inventive and intriguing graphic novel ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Top 10 of 2019 - Runners Up
The Nameless City (trilogy) by Faith Erin Hicks - gorgeous art and a fantastic story make this YA graphic novel trilogy a standout. Give it to every tween you know.
Queer Eye: Love Yourself, Love Your Life by The Fab Five - if you love the Netflix series, you owe it to yourself to pick up a copy of this book. It's like the best kind of therapy.

I picked this up because Bryan Konietzko gave it a great review. I was impressed! I enjoyed the complex racial themes and Kai and Rat‘s growing friendship. Will be checking out the second book ASAP.
I've been reading a lot of middle grade graphic novels lately as they have felt good for my burdened soul, but this one was a real standout. I like the art style, the story was engaging, and the characters were easy to connect with. Recommended, and looking forward to the next book!
I really liked this book. It had many elements to it that kept me wanting to read more and had beautiful illustrations. I‘m glad there are more books in this series, because I really enjoyed the evolving friendship between Rat and Kaidu. I‘m looking forward to the next installment.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Cute, fun, good hearted Juvenile Graphic Novel. enjoyed the story, setting and characters! Was a quick read. Wished it lasted longer and had more content. Need to check out part 2.

High in the mountains, the Nameless City is fought over & occupied & fought over & occupied and... Conquerer & conquered seldom mix until one day Kai ventures outside the fortified palace. There he meets Rat, one of the Named (people from the city) who hates him on sight. But, neither is quite what they seem. They become friends & that‘s good because only together can Kai & Rat save The Nameless City from a growing threat. Fun story, great art.
Really liked the second in this trilogy, which is based on warring tribes in medieval China. Can‘t wait to see how it ends!
#Aprella Day 29: I don‘t know about you but this cover here looks like a #SpiceGirl to me with all her ferocity, mischief, and verve.
THE NAMELESS CITY and its sequel are among the most exciting comics I've read in the last few years. They're about power and colonialism, with an emphasis on the ways people's biases can make it tough for them to decolonize their behaviours.
And they're all-ages.
All-ages comics that give kids credit make me SO HAPPY. Yes, this one deals with potentially upsetting subject matter, but any kid who can handle ATLA can handle THE NAMELESS CITY.
What a fantastic read! I wish I had the sequel to start right now. #letsgetgraphicweeklongmarathon
So, this past holiday weekend, I played a video game for the first time in MONTHS! Uncharted 4. Roughly 15 hours. And this juvenile graphic novel was mentioned in the epilogue. Very enjoyable. Quick read, finished it in about 40 minutes at lunch. Fun characters, great intro to the world. Got book 2 after work :)
Too many mouths to feed today, Rat. It's all gone.
I'm in the kids section of the library, so a graphic novel was the closest book to me that had at least 117 pages. This doesn't bode well for my 2017. Gulp!
Really enjoyed this graphic novel about the friendship between two kids of different backgrounds and the city they live in, which is holding on to a fragile peace. #weneeddiversebooks
I read these out of order but am a huge fan. This one is book one, which I read second. But I very much enjoyed the art and the story. Well built narrative with fun dialogue and pictures.
Wow, y'all. Faith Erin Hicks delivers a stellar all-ages comic about colonialism, set in an oft-conquered city that's been under one empire's control for thirty years and is now poised for change. I love the characters, I love the art, and I love how Hicks doesn't shy away from the complexity of it all. Highly recommended to fans of ATLA in particular. #boutofbooks
Very quick read! I enjoyed this adventure story that also lightly touched on human compassion and decency.
I do love Erin Hick's artwork. This one had a great story with lots of energy as well.
A great start to a series! It definitely felt a lot like Avatar the Last Airbender- but with out the bending. I loved how distinctive all the characters are, especially the General of All Blades who was world weary but kind (and not unlike the emperor from Mulan tbh).
Wow. Gorgeous art, vivid world-building inspired by ancient China, complex characters and a story that combines political intrigue with the learning of trust. An outstanding graphic novel for readers age 9 to adult.
I hope to see more of martial arts expert Mura in the next volume in this series. She is fierce!
The General of All Blades: "Were the Dao to leave the city, the Yisun or the Liao would immediately try to conquer it. Soon the city would be occupied again, still ruled, still at war."
This middle grade graphic novel is gorgeous. Complex characters in political situations, but also plenty of action and friendship. Can't wait for the next one!
I book-talked this giant stack of graphic novels to 100 third and fourth graders today and they were SO EXCITED about all of them. Talking to kids about books they are actually excited about is my favorite thing. Made my day.
Great start for a new series. Love Rat and Kai both. The minor characters, and the city itself, is also compelling
Decent start of a new series. I liked the two main characters. Interesting world & hints at a deep past and a changing future. Looking forward to seeing where the story will take me. Art depicts action & emotions well. Nice colors. @24in48 @Litsy #comics #graphicnovel

I'm always on the lookout for great graphic novels to recommend to my 3rd-6th grade readers and this is perfect. Full of adventure, intrigue and excellent artwork. Can't wait to start putting this book in kids hands.
Fantastic start to a series! Compelling characters with visually stunning art. Loved it!
I bought this on the enthusiastic recommendation of my comic shop clerk. It was a fast read and it was decent--I could see the series picking up in the future because the characters were cool. Definitely shades of Avatar: The Last Airbender, but not quite there.
I love how expressive Faith Erin Hicks' faces are - such depth in the eyes!
LOVE THIS BOOK. A fun, thoughtful look at a complicated friendship between two kids, acknowledging cultural conflict without flinching away. Read if you love Avatar: the Last Airbender! I've been following FEH's work for years and she never disappoints. This is the best yet. 😍
What a great start to this story! Great political maneuvering and characterization and I've always loved her art, which is as engaging as ever here.
