1. I teach first grade so yes! I‘m thinking of going as a bat like Stellaluna.

2. Currently reading The Southern Book Club‘s Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix and it‘s pretty darn good so far!

Like humans, bats only have one or two offspring each year, which increases their susceptibility to major colony damage from disease like white-nose syndrome or habitat loss. Recovery can be very slow. More than 200 bat species around the world are considered threatened. WNS alone has the potential to wipe out 90% of a colony in one winter. #batweek

SamAnne Loving your bat posts. Lost our colony of bats next to my house due to a shitty illegal development. It‘s been so sad. Really missed them whizzing past my head this summer while sitting on my porch. Such amazing beings. 13mo
TieDyeDude @samanne Thank you! Sorry to hear about your local colony. A group I follow is fighting constantly to have even legal development show consideration towards local bat populations. 13mo
SamAnne @TieDyeDude I‘m interested in what noticeable cascading effects we see? More mosquitos? We‘ve also seen far reduced butterflies, pollinators and dragonflies, not sure the cause of all of it—climate change weather for sure, habitat loss. We have a full lot with fruit trees, plants, vegetable gardens, native flowers, no pesticides or herbicides. I‘m really missing my bats and bugs. 13mo

“Stellaluna”, mf, is by Janell Cannon and has won a Keystone to Reading award. A read aloud will create a great experience for students with this book. Stellaluna is a little baby fruit bat who is separated from her mother very young. After finding a nest, she is adopted by the mama bird and is raised like a bird! But one day, she is reunited with her bat mother! This book touches on family dynamics and relationship themes.

amandar This website, https://www.varsitytutors.com/englishteacher/stellaluna-lesson-plans , provides great lesson plans ideas, each with a different focus. UDL 3.2 and ESOL strategy 15 best apply as they emphasize key ideas to students. #UCFLAE3414SP20 5y

@SumisBooks I‘m sorry to hear about your loss. In Oct. our little black Chihuahua died after 8 yrs. w/ us which wasn‘t long enough. We‘re still having a difficult time dealing with not having Stellaluna around to make us laugh & welcome us home with her loud barking but it has gotten easier.
Captain & Caprica miss her too but have loved the extra attention!

Stellaluna is a F picture book written and illustrated by Jane Cannon. This book tells the story of a young bat named Stellaluna who gets separated from her mother and ends up growing up with birds instead of bats. This book would be great for a RA and to incorporating multiple subjects into a lesson. I like the idea of having students learn about bats and birds and doing a comparison and contrast graphic organizer.

Mwinship This website includes ideas to include Stellaluna into multiple subjects: http://www.storytellingworld.com/Books/StellaPacket.pdf
The EL strategy 7 and UDL guideline 1.1 about using graphic organizers and customizing the display of information go along with this book and activity I would like to do. #UCFLAE3414F19

This is a cute story about a fruit bar that loses its way when He and his mother are attacked by an hour. Do you survive, he lived in a Birds nest with a bunch of other baby birds. He had to adapt and live like a bird does. He noticed that he never fit in and eventually found other bats and found his mother again. He wanted to show the other baby birds so they went flying at night and he ended up rescuing them.

Yay! It's bat appreciation day! Bats are such fascinating animals, and so beneficial! The two pictures are of the little brown bat and the big brown bat. Not the most original names, but they are the most common bats in my part of Ohio. April 17th is roughly when bats start waking up from hibernation. Stellaluna might be the cutest bat childrens book ever.

This fiction book is about a young bat that gets separated from her mother when she is knocked out of her mothers safe embrace by an owl. She is then raised by mother bird. She grows up and eventually finds her way back to her family. It won the Indies Choice Book Award. I would have my students partner read this book so they can talk about the book together. The UDL I would use is 8.3 foster collaboration and community.

Samantha.K The ESOL strategy I would use is 45 use Venn Diagrams to contrast and compare. https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Stellaluna-Venn-Diagram-and-Compare-... this link takes you to a lesson plan that has the students compare and contrast bats and birds. #ucflae3414f17 7y
Floribelg This book made me think a little about Quackers shared in class. How the duck was raised from a different animal. I would also use a KWL to see what they know about the animals before reading just to spike their interest. 7y
ashley.v I used to love this book. I still do. I think it is also a good book to read to adopted and foster children. 7y
