Now I'm craving McDonald's 🍟.

A re-listen for me,first published in 2001,I fear little has changed. In fact,there are probably more pathogens, GMOs, & chemicals in fast food now. Plus ,did you see that Arkansas & Iowa are trying to roll back child labor laws?Some slaughterhouse in Nebraska hired a Sanitation company that had 100 children 13-17 working across 13 packing plants in 8 states. What has happened to this country!?!Book on cassette !Greed always leads to exploitation!

You create what you eat have never felt more true.

It‘s dated, but still very relevant. While there is some info about the foods themselves, as I expected, this is much more about the industries of fast food and its supporting system. The impacts on the meat industry, ranching/farming, processing; resistance to any increased safety measures or wage increases, etc; all that is the bigger focus. It‘s disheartening in a lot of ways, though I think there have been some gains in the 20 years since.

Natural and artificial flavors are now manufactured at the same chemical plants, places that few people would associate with Mother Nature. Calling any of these flavors “natural” requires a flexible attitude toward the English language and a fair amount of irony.

One of those weird book coincidences - I just DNFed In the Shadow of the Moon, which had a whole section on von Braun‘s illustrious Nazi career and his record with the inmates who provided the labor for his facility. I didn‘t expect to encounter it again in a book about fast food.

We all know that Fast Food isn't healthy - but we love it anyway. I do, too. Still, I want to be informed and even though this book focuses on America, I still highly recommend it. There is a lot of troubling information in there and I know really want to go and ask the Swiss workers of McD and Burger King how it is to work for those companies. Also, I made the right decicion to go veggie/vegan (on my way there).

This book has been on and off my TBR stax for years and I finally decided to tackle it nearly 20 yrs after it was first published. Expository NF that started out as a homage to an American cultural phenomenon turns into an expose of how fast food companies have impacted farmers, ranchers, our health, eating behavior and the economy. There‘s an updated version but I‘ll be more interested in update that features the impact of alt-meat products...

I read this book during some research on factory farming. Mr. Eric did a wonderful job showing view points from different parts of the food supply chain. He included different experiences from illegal immigrants, slaughterhouse workers, Distribution, & Environmentalists. We as society do not respect our conveniences nor the sacrifices of the plants and animals which facilitate life in general. Thank you to all whom have sacrificed. God is love.

Great read about the dark side of the nations food.

I‘m beyond excited to add a selection of fiction and non-fiction texts to my classroom library. I‘ll have a full summer of reading with these selections, and I can‘t wait 😊📚🌞

Ooh, tough to read and I don‘t each much fast food. The author does a masterful job of blending scientific research with the personal stories of those affected. As someone who grew up around ranching and spent time in Colorado, that made it even more interesting.

Finally trying this one, it has been on my TBR forever! #MountTBR #lazysunday

1. It‘s gotta be my Gram‘s cans of index cards translucent from butter and dusted in flour.

Starting the year with a finish. This book has been on my currently reading list for too long. I won't say I enjoyed it, but it was really interesting and I learned so much about several industries I knew nothing about. This will probably make some people cringe but the copy I have was previously married up by someone who must have been writing a report. I enjoyed reading the comments written in the margins.

Taco Bell came to Finland, which means they need a doorman for the next few months. Quite sad, really. You should have seen what it looked like when Burger King came to town...

I'm way behind on #riotgrams but jumping back on the bandwagon. Picked this as my food themed book. It's one of my all time favorites and scared the shit out of me. I was already a vegetarian, but it really reinforced my decision. Also I had to buy a second copy of the book because I loaned it out to an ex and NEVER GOT IT BACK.

This is disgusting. I'm proud the say that my 4 1/2 year old is in the 4% that cannot name him. She said "It's a clown Mom. What's his name?! Drew?!?!"

This is an engrossing in-depth look at the fast food industry. Its history, development, food manufacturing, marketing, suppliers, etc. etc., are all laid out for you with plenty of bibliographic resources. Eye-opening, stomach-turning, & even humorous at parts, you'll never look at a fast food chain the same way again! I would recommend watching the companion documentary after reading this. Educate! #PairWith: honey lemon water, straight, cool.
