Meh. Just couldn't connect to this story. Just okay.
This book is soooo amazing... perfection and sooo many feels! So yeah you guys should definitely pick this book!
Finished this on the plane to LA.
I never thought I'd love it this much. The story was beautiful, seeking the meaning of love and death, and of course life. But the audiobook was brilliant. There's serene and understanding tone in the narration which deepened all the emotions. And it had not one but three songs of its own, with lyrics and all. Definitely a pick!

Ugh, what a slog to get through. Flat characterization, an illogical plot moved not by character motivation or anything else believable but because the god characters of Love and Death just make stuff happen, a superficial historical setting used just for flavour, stupid sexist crap, and race handled sloppily. Curse having to finish books when you're reading them for a class.
Took myself out for some Korean food and started this historical #YA set in the 30s. Anyone else read it?

I loved this book from the moment I opened it, & love it even more after hearing Martha Brockenbrough talk about it this evening. She is my #WonderWomanWednesday, to whom I would happily listen talk about anything. She has so much curiosity, & such attention to detail. One of my (many!) favorite things she said was that she writes each of her supporting characters as if s/he were the star of his/her own book, & sometimes they take over the story.
Love, death, and jazz in 1930s Seattle #ya #magicalrealism
Oh the games Love can play and how ignorant we players can be! So beautiful...eloquent...a lovely piece of writing about true love.
And, Ch 21...OH MY! Be still my beating heart! I fell in love with this creative writing and artfully exquisite prose.
Go read this now, my peeps!
This book came so highly recommended but I found it to be lacking in just about everything. I couldn't care about the characters because I couldn't stop wondering if they were only in love because Love and Death had interfered with their destinies. Which ultimately lessens the stories depth.
9/10
This book has made my heart heavy.
The thought of Love and Death playing a Game over mortals seemed a bit cheesy. But after reading the outcome between Flora and Henry made a special place in my heart.
The Game of Love and Death is indeed, as you might expect, a love story. But it is also a story about history, inequality, and tragedy. Full review: http://goo.gl/HUCwbu
"Someday everyone you love will die. Everything you love will crumble to ruin. This is the price of life. This is the price of love. It is the only ending for every true story."
Devastatingly elegant. The dynamic of Flora & Henry burns fierce & sweet, and themes of race & sexuality in 1930s Seattle are deftly explored. Love & Death were lofty, but still a brilliant exploration of the meaning behind the human spirit. ★★★★☆.
I have literally spent the past week and half teaching my kids to live, breathe, and dream Bessie Coleman! This book and I are kismet.
"It was the source of everything, including Love and Death themselves."
currently reading: The Game of Love and Death, Martha Brockenbrough | I've heard this is amazing until it gets boring. Thoughts, Litsy people (Litsers? Lits? Lits-appers)? Also, I am SO in the mood for something Romeo & Juliet related.
