The Game of Love and Death | Martha Brockenbrough

Pickpick

Finished this on the plane to LA.

I never thought I'd love it this much. The story was beautiful, seeking the meaning of love and death, and of course life. But the audiobook was brilliant. There's serene and understanding tone in the narration which deepened all the emotions. And it had not one but three songs of its own, with lyrics and all. Definitely a pick!

I both love and hate this audiobook. With a little magic and lots of twists, I can't sort this book in historical genre, ever. Sometimes it was annoying but most of the time funny as hell. The narrator's accent accentuated the joke and sarcasm, though sometimes a bit too much. However, romance was a success, which was a rare find. 👏🏼 It fits for a light comedy read but I prefer something more serious.

Forgive me, I've just finished crying.
It was heartbreaking as expected. I've been avoiding this genre be it books or movies bc I can't handle the feels. The war has torn everything apart yet a flicker of hope remain. In life, yes, but also in death. You know how it will end but you'll still get drowned in the sea of emotions.

@LitHousewife I'm low on the internet at the moment. My review will be there tmr. :)

LitHousewife No problem! I'm glad you liked this one. 🙂 8y
pppooraikul @LitHousewife To be honest, it's not like I want to reread and so re-experience this book. 😂 But I'd be lying if I say no to recommending it. 8y
Notafraidofwords Her other book broke me too. Between Shades of Gray did the same to me. Hope in death is literally a theme of this author. 8y

pppooraikul @Notafraidofwords Absolutely agree. This author has a powerful voice on the subject. The author's note at the end of this book gave me goosebumps. I'll definitely check Between Shades of Gray out. :) Heard that there's a relation to Salt to the Sea as well. 8y
Reviewsbylola Damn I still need to read this. 8y
Notafraidofwords @pppooraikul definitely worth checking out. 8y

pppooraikul @Notafraidofwords I will (after I recover, though.) Lol. Thank you! 😁 8y

Reaching the final half of Salt to the Sea with something sweet to make it easier to bear, or so I hope. Just the title alone somehow reminded me of tears and blood and I knew I'm going to cry even before I read the synopsis. Must be a reader intuition. #ArmchairAudies #APAawards #YA
