Holy wow, this book: the layering of time, the interweaving of narrative, and over it all the brutality of war.

I'm probably biased, but this story of a Texas girl finding herself hit all the right notes. The combination of home cooking, family, small town drama, and self actualization were interwoven with moments of harsh reality and hopefulness. B+
