34 posts | 111 read | 19 to read
In the tradition of Stephen King's 'Salem's Lot, Cirque Du Freak is the frightening saga of a young boy whose visit to a mysterious freak show leads him on a journey into a dark world of vampires. Filled with grotesque creatures, murderous vampires, and a petrifying ending, Cirque Du Freak will chill, thrill, and leave readers begging for more.

I bought part of the series, years ago, at a garage sale. The lady said her son devoured them when younger, but he was headed to college in the fall. He came out and smiled as I talked to him about the books. I have to say, the hype is deserved. Spooky, mysterious, fun. I‘m looking forward to the rest. My boyfriend just told me this was his favorite series when he was younger so of course I‘m listening thanks to Libby with all the audiobooks! He isn‘t a major reader so I love when he remembers a book he liked!

peanutnine Oh this is such a good series! I also loved it when I was younger. Enjoy 💖 1y
Ash.on.the.line @peanutnine thanks! So far so good, pretty good for a middle grade series! 1y

Today I'm showing you the only shelf I managed to clean today. I tried, with my leg and all.
These are mostly Darren Shan books, he's an auto-buy author of mine. Other books of his are on my TBR shelves. To keep the ones I read company there are the Nevernight trilogy by Jay Kristoff and the Hunt trilogy by Andrew Fukuda

4/5 for the first in this series. This one has been on my list for a while. It was creepy and spooky. I loved it. Mr Crepsely is a creepy dude. He fits the creature of the night perfectly. I didn‘t expect to cry reading this but it got right towards the end. I will be continuing the series.

I READ A BOOK!!!

It took me the better part of 2 weeks to listen to this 5hr #audiobook that I picked at random and I'm not even a little mad at it. This was fun and just what I needed to get out of this reading rut. I think I'll keep this series on deck for some quick reads down the road 👍

Dipping into the Grishaverse next before the show starts 😊

Great pallet cleanser from all the angst I‘ve been reading😊 Man, these books are CRIMINALLY underrated. I can‘t wait to get this series for my future kids to read. As soon as I finished this one I jumped on eBay and bought book 2 in the series🖤 fun, quick nostalgic read :)

🕷 I haven‘t read this series since my early teens! I‘m not sure I even finished all of them now that I think about it 🤔 excited to revisit them, my sister sent this to me, we both shared a love for them🖤🕷

phantomx Omg! The Cirque du Freak series is amazing, I read it in my early teens too. I believe there's about 10 or 12 books. My favorite part was when Darren had to participate in the trials, and I liked the concept of vampires aging at a slower rate than humans 4y

I decided to reread this childhood favourite series, and I'm so glad I did! In this first instalment, Darren and his friend Steve sneak out to a freak show, but nothing will ever be the same after Steve recognises one of the performers as a vampire. This series starts out innocent enough, but absolutely gets darker as it goes on. 3⭐

MsRadioSilence Holy stars it‘s been a HOT MINUTE since I‘ve seen those books lol. Never did finish the series :( 5y

The last time I was so enamored with a book was with #TheHungerGames in junior high, it took me a whole day to read one of the books in the series. Definitely didn‘t do that with this one since it‘s harder to do things as an adult but it came pretty close, I feel like this really has sparked that old joy of reading I had as a kid. Can‘t wait to finally finish this series after all these years! #5starreview #highlyrecommended

It‘s been FOREVER since I‘ve read any of these books (I didn‘t start from the beginning like I should have when I was a kid) so I finally picked this read up and I have to say I think this is the first time in a while that I‘ve read a book when it was so easy to breeze through and become encapsulated by, I‘m looking forward to reading this series again! #reread #childhoodnostalgia #cirquedufreak

phantomx I love Cirque du Freak! It's been quite awhile since I read the series. Have you read Procession of the Dead? 5y
HelvetiCannnoan @phantomx no I haven‘t because for some reason my library didn‘t have the whole series available so I still don‘t know the ending 😿 5y

One of the first book series I ever read and really got me into reading I have always considered this to be one of my all time favourite series even though it‘s been almost ten years since reading this and I barely remember any of it, thought it‘s about time for a reread, nervous as to how I will find it at age 21 in comparison to 12 year old me🤞hopefully it holds up well.

I loved spooky books when I was younger. My favorite of which was the Cirque du Freak novels! Teen boy becomes a vampire‘s assistant at a traveling freak show and it just escalates from there. Highly underrated in my opinion. @callielafleur #clearingtheshelves2

claffy_reads I didn't know this was a book! I've seen the movie and really enjoyed it. I'll have to look for this! 6y
RainyDayReading @callielafleur Yep! I think there‘s actually 11 or 12 books in the series but they‘re all super small. I‘m in the process of collecting them all again xD 6y

Life‘s a bit tiring at the moment and I‘ve been feeling jaded and a bit down lately... I also didn‘t feel like reading much. But today the sun was finally out again which made everything else seem brighter as well and I‘ve started this super quick and easy read to save me from a reading slump and I think it works😊

Has anyone here heard of that series or read it and can tell me if it is worth reading?

SpeculativeFemale I read the first book of the series years ago. I don't remember much about it, but I do remember liking it enough to be disappointed I couldn't seem to get my hands on the rest of the books at the time. 7y

About half way through I was sure that I wouldn't want to read any more of this series, but by the end I was totally engaged & am now excited to read the next book! It is very Bradbury-esque, & I mean that as a high compliment! I am totally in love with the characters & the story itself has so much possibility for the sequels!!

Darren and his best friend Steve visit a traveling freak show. Steve believes a performer, Crepsley, is a vampire. Steve talks to Crepsley and asks to become a vampire. Crepsley initially refuses but is talked into testing Steve's blood, that he spits out telling Steve he has bad blood. Steve furiously swears revenge and leaves.

Loved this series when I was younger.

One of my all time favorites!! I've read it multiple times but can never get enough of Mr. Crepsley! Re-reading this reminds me of my time spent in New Orleans - a place with lots of vampire lore.
