#Two4Tuesday
@TheSpineView

1. I randomly read book reviews but not in preparation of writing them

2. Not usually but I might comment on certain issues that come up in other reviews if I've encountered them as well

TheSpineView Thanks for playing and happy Tuesday! 🤗🌞📖📚 4y

jb72 Nonfiction is one of my favorite genres. 4y
bibliobliss @jb72 I think I could literally read just nonfiction if I had to 4y
jb72 @bibliobliss I could too. There are such a variety of genres within the nonfiction realm. Plus I‘ve read a few nonfiction that seem so surreal it could even be fiction. 4y

Long but good bio of early years up to coming to power. Can be compared to a modern American who still influences people!

First volume (takes us up to 1939) of this superb biography. Thorough yet always readable. Highly recommended.

• Intense belly bumps while reading tonight. Having my first cup of coffee in a long while; I never thought I'd be able to give it up! Baby seems to think I don't need it Lol and honestly, I think I might have fallen out of love with java 😲 I suppose stranger things have happened! •

• In addition to being an evil, egomaniacal demon...Hitler was also a pathological liar. I thought I wanted to read "Mein Kampf" at some point but according to this book, MK has a lot more fiction than fact. Big surprise •

• Hitler's recollections of war; it's amazing (NOT in a good way) how many times he dodged being a casualty himself as a dispatch runner in the first world war 😳 History would have played out so differently if he'd been part of the battlefield sacrifice •

“Hitler would often read until the early hours of the morning. Hitler‘s favourite reading material was Germanic myths and heroic sagas, closely followed by art and architectural histories. But he also read contemporary works such as the plays of Ibsen and Frank Wedekind‘s Spring Awakening.”

“Books, always books,” recalled Kubizek. “I can‘t picture Adolf without books. Books were his whole world.”

“People have perennially speculated about how history might have turned out had Hitler passed that admissions test. Most likely not only his life story, but Germany‘s and the world‘s would have taken a different course.”

• Hard to imagine Hitler as a fine artist instead of a horrific dictator...and yet that could have been his destiny 😳 •

• There's no good time to start a doorstopper about Hitler but here I am...enjoying oatmeal/banana and coffee while reading about the German dictator. Did you know that Hitler appeared to love his mother very much and was actually a human being in his early years?! I'm being sarcastic; of course he was human--only humans are capable of such heinous moral atrocities as visited upon the world during his time in history •

• History‘s demon. The personification of pure evil. The most reviled person who ever lived. In other words, my next big historical, non-fiction read •

TheBookStacker I always enjoy biographies, I read a very thick book while I was in Germany about the rise of the Reich but I‘d be interested in this. 6y
bibliobliss @TheBookStacker This is a highly anticipated biography from about 2 yrs ago. I‘m excited to read it. I know so little about Hitler as a person and scanning through it, I think it‘s going to be a fascinating read. 6y

• I can‘t imagine how fascinated and disgusted I will be after reading this. Hitler: one of history‘s most universally reviled characters and I want to read about him. I‘m not ashamed to admit that his extreme psychopathy (that‘s probably putting it too mildly) and utter horridness intrigues my curious mind. But then I‘ve always been curious about evil minds. Wish me luck, I‘m going in as soon as possible •

Volume 1 has arrived. Weighing in at 750 pages of smallish text I have time before I buy volume 2.

RealBooks4ever I'm patiently waiting for your review! 😄 8y
Gina @RealBooks4ever Oh now that's funny! Hehehehe. I read like a snail. 8y

Gina @MrBook intimidation factor a bit high on this one. 8y
MrBook Understandable, but very doable. 8y
Gina @MrBook I think I may put it in a backpack and force myself to carry it around till I read it. Sometimes it takes draconian measures to get me motivated. Did you read it? Thoughts? 8y
MrBook No, haven't read it yet, but I've seen it many times in the bookstores. I read Toland's bio of Hitler, which comes in at over 1,100 pages though. 8y

JanuarieTimewalker13 @AustenJennings I stink at movie lines, but there's one I always remember from Harry and Tonto (one of my fave films of all time) and it's Harry's friend, Rivetowski says "Capitalist Bastards!" It's just the way he says it that is so good!! Sorry, your post just reminded me of H&T...such a great period piece (1974). 8y

Wisdom tooth removal, two! So I'm in bed with this door stopper. I'm trying to rest today, but that's so hard for me to do...trying...trying. --- This is a really detailed biography of Hitler's youth and how is ideas formed and turned monstrous. I'm learning a lot, mostly everything since I know very little of him.

BookishFeminist lol talk about a scary book to read for Halloween. 8y
Notafraidofwords @BookishFeminist I know, but I've head great things about this biographer and wanted to give it a try. Plus I'm secluded to my bed after I had two of my wisdom tooth removed. 8y

This is much more than a biography --the book is a very detailed analysis of the growth and development of National Socislism, and a harrowing history of exactly what happened to Germany, and how it happened, when the NSDAP seized power. Copious references to all the primary and secondary sources, of great value to anyone who wants to learn more about the era. Disturbing read, without question, but deeply illuminating.

QuintusMarcus And apologies to anyone offended by the book--it's what I'm reading, and I'm learning a lot. Considering the current political environment, I think there is much value in learning how political calamities occurred. 8y
