Selected Works | Edgar Allan Poe

Day #7 of my 7 days of Poe. Finally wrapping this silly stunt up after a week of taking photos and talking about a bunch of Poe. Thanks for all of the likes! 👍 I don‘t know what I‘m doing, I‘m just winging it. I‘ve been doing this since I was 1 day old. I remember laying there in the hospital, wearing my onesie, acting like everything was cool, when all I wanted to do was go home. I got my first Poe tattoo soon after my skull hardened... 😜✌️

catebutler Ha! Love your caption! I‘ve loved seeing your Poe collection too! Especially since my partner is such a huge Poe fan, you‘ve given me great ideas for his Poe obsession. 7y
GarthRanzz LOL Nice wrap up photo! I still want that bust of Pallas for above my chamber (office) door. 7y
mypoesoul @catebutler Thanks! 😁 Yeah, I stacked so many of my Poe books into one photo that I knew there was no way I was going to attempt to describe everything, so I just decided to ramble for a minute...LOL eBay has been my friend over the years with finding some of the oddest Poe things that I have... 😉 7y
mypoesoul @GarthRanzz Thanks! 😊 I mixed a little bit of everything in there. Actually, I just bought the bust of Pallas last week on eBay. They had the one I have pictured, and a bronze finish. I liked the bronze look, but the one in my photo shows more detail, IMHO. The quality is very nice, and it was only $42 (free shipping too). They still have some available (for above your chamber door). 😉 7y

COMP POETICAL WORKS OF EDGAR A | Edgar Allan 1809-1849 Poe, R. Brimley (Reginald Brimley) Johnson
post image

Day #6 of my 7 days of Poe. One more day left,,,whew. 😓 Took this photo last night, because I‘m currently standing in line to meet the guys of Blue October (and a concert afterwards). 😁 This is ‘The Complete Poetical Works of Edgar Allan Poe‘ (1909)... R. Brimley Johnson/Oxford Edition. One of my favorites, because for 100+ years old, it‘s still in near mint condition. 🤗

GarthRanzz Beautiful edition! And Blue October!! Do they have a new album out or are they just touring? I love their stuff. 7y
mypoesoul @GarthRanzz Thanks! 😊 Yeah, Blue October has a new album coming out in June (called ‘I Hope You‘re Happy‘). They did a couple of songs off of it tonight. Killer concert! 😉 https://youtu.be/FwZvuV79jeY 7y
GarthRanzz Cool! I‘m glad you two had a good time! I‘ll definitely be looking forward to a new album! 😊 7y
mypoesoul @GarthRanzz Thanks! Here‘s how crazy Justin is (see link). He said ‘I know you want to get close to me...‘ LOL https://blueoctobermeetandgreet.shutterfly.com/30479 7y

Day #5 of my 7 days of Poe, and still my autocorrect thinks I want to type ‘Pie‘. 😒🥧 I couldn‘t find the actual book listed, so I grabbed something close. The version pictured is actually sort of a weird copy that you don‘t see that often. It‘s from Time Warner Libraries (1991). The art was done by a tattoo artist friend of mine who is crazy talented! Google ‘Roger Pearson Tattoos‘ if you want to see more... 😉

Zelma Wow, the picture on the wall is crazy creepy. In a good way! 7y
GarthRanzz I‘ve seen his work! Love it! And it‘s funny about Pie instead of Poe. If I hit capital P it automatically wants to fill in Poe. Maybe I talk about him too much. 😊 7y
mypoesoul @GarthRanzz With this 7 day thing I‘ve been doing, I figured it would start to get it right. Maybe I‘ve talked about pie more than I have Poe...LOL 😋 7y

mypoesoul @Zelma Thanks! When he offered to sell it to me, I was all over it. He didn‘t want to initially, but I told him it would have a good home, with my Poe stuff. I had Michael‘s frame it up for me. 😉 7y
Zelma I do all of my framing at Michael‘s and it makes such a difference! 😍 7y

The collected letters of Edgar Allan Poe | Edgar Allan Poe, Burton Ralph Pollin, Jeffrey A. Savoye, John Ward Ostrom
post image

Day #4 of my 7 days of Poe. This is getting more difficult than I thought it would be... Pulling everything off of the shelves and taking photos. 🤪 This is ‘The Collected Letters of Edgar Allan Poe‘, edited by J.W. Ostrom (published in 1948). Also a little raven statue, because it‘s Poe, and it‘s a raven, and you know.... 🤔 A bluebird, or an elephant, or a squirrel with an acorn wouldn‘t make a lot of sense. 😛

GarthRanzz A bloody beating heart? A black cat? Those would make sense too. 😊 Lovely slipcase edition! 7y
DebBates101 Aww smack Im super jealous! 7y
mypoesoul @GarthRanzz Thanks! 😉 Very true! I need to add more black cat statues to my shelf. Too many ravens... 😄 Speaking of ravens, I found someone on Etsy selling resin life size raven skulls. I bought a few different kinds a while back. They are very cool looking. Her name was Ada (Raven Ranch Studio). 😉 She‘s super nice to deal with... https://etsy.me/1sNQ3Ds 7y
mypoesoul @DebBates101 😊 I think I found this on eBay a few years ago... 7y
GarthRanzz I think I‘ve seen her stuff before. Very cool! 7y

Annabel Lee: Poem | Edgar Allan Poe
post image

Day #3 of my 7 days of Poe... 😛

For the moon never beams, without bringing me dreams
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee...

Part of my infatuation with Living Dead dolls. Yeah, I‘m a grown man (my wife questions that), and I play with dolls, OK? 🤫 Fortunately, I purchased this a while ago, before the value shot through the roof. 🚀 Mezco only made a few dolls about real people. 😉 That little Poe figure in front is possessed. He knocks down books..

GarthRanzz Is that the Poe that‘s like a little resin trinket box? I have that one! I don‘t don‘t think mines haunted though. Just lost in storage somewhere. 7y
mypoesoul @GarthRanzz Yeah, his head comes off (and there‘s a heart inside). I can‘t remember where I found him, but wherever we put him, books always get knocked down. Seriously. We have him pinned in between two large books, and that seems to keep him in check. If you set him beside a smaller, lighter weight book, it will be on its side or the floor before the end of the day... (edited) 7y
GarthRanzz It‘s the heart trying to break out. 😊 I don‘t remember where I found mine either but it is the same one. It used to set next to two bobble heads and some other Poe stuff when I actually worked in the office. 7y

Day 2, of my 7 days of Poe stuff... ? I bought this through a Kickstarter project (https://goo.gl/sRf1Nb) a few years ago. The illustrations are by David G. Forés. I forgot what package this was but it included the LP and several other things. There are so many Kickstarter projects, some Poe related, but I try to stick to my favorites. It‘s worth keeping a close eye on their site, just in case something special turns up. ?

SconsinBookyBadger Wow what a beautiful Kickstarter collection 😍 7y
GarthRanzz I need to remember to watch Kickstarter for Poe! I should have learned my lesson already. 7y

I‘ve missed posting weird stuff, so I‘m going to post 7 of my stranger Poe things in 7 days. 😁 Day 1 - Poe, Master of Macabre (P.H. Bellas, Xavier Press 1995). Copy #83 of 200. The little thing in the (bottom right) corner is a piece of grass from his gravesite. There‘s a miniature sleeve on the back cover that this slides into. The book contains several little collectibles like this... 😋

mypoesoul Thanks so much, @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @cobwebmoth @GarthRanzz @FlowerFairy @Librarybelle @BookwormAHN @TricksyTails @Gina ! ☺️ @ErinGoBragh1011 , I found it on eBay a few weeks ago. It was the first time I had ever seen it listed, and I‘m constantly on eBay. 🤫 It seems like they are very difficult to find, unless you know exactly what to ‘Google‘, but I just found one more in existence that I know of - https://goo.gl/FwbMpB 😉 7y
ErinGoBragh1011 @mypoesoul you're the best! Thanks! Hopefully its still there on pay day. 🤞 7y
Gina So I have read about Poe's mysterious death. Do you think it was "cooping" the voter fraud theory? 7y
mypoesoul @Gina Oh, definitely. Everything about it makes sense, but I think the efforts of people like Rufus Griswold have tarnished his history so badly, that it makes people question the obvious. It‘s sad that history can be written upon the lies of others and years later becomes accepted as the truth, or at least clouds it. Another one of my favorite historical figures is Nikola Tesla, and thieves like Edison robbed him from our history books. 😞 (edited) 7y
Gina @mypoesoul ohohohoh meeee tooooo. And yes I think Edision was great at self promotion and a complete scum bag. This book is historical fiction but it really has bits of truth from history and it portrays Edsion as he really was. Tessa, Morgan and Bell are also in it. 7y
mypoesoul @Gina Looks interesting, I‘ll have to check it out. Thanks! 😃 Not that I condone violence, but if Edison were alive today, I‘d find his address and go punch him in the throat, for what he did to Tesla. 🤜 I‘d then hunt down Marconi next... 😋 7y
Gina @mypoesoul yessss I understand. It is so disheartening that he is the one children know about with no true context of how he just road off the backs if others with his conniving ways, such as the whole electrocuting dog thing to make false claims against Westinghouse as they battled for the light bulb patent. I really hope karma has caught up with him. Btw I taught my boys all about Tesla and the truth of Edison! 7y
mypoesoul @Gina Awesome, every parent should be required to do the same thing! Kudos to you!!! ☺️ #thetruthisoutthere 7y

If you follow @NatalieR, you may have noticed that she had our little dog Sahara in almost all of her Litsy photos. The last photo of Sahara was with one of my Poe books (that I begged her to read). Little did we know that Sahara would be gone a couple of days later (after complications from surgery). @NatalieR didn‘t want to draw any sympathy with her own post, so I wanted to honor them both with this one. I hope she‘s OK with me sharing this.

GarthRanzz My heart goes out to you and Natalie on your loss. 💔 7y
mypoesoul @GarthRanzz Thanks so much! I‘ve been absent a bit lately because of everything going on. It‘s taken a while to start to feel somewhat normal again. Thanks again, my friend! ☺️ 7y

mypoesoul @GarthRanzz Thanks! It‘s been crazy the past few weeks. We‘ll never forget her, but seeing her at peace after she passed away made us feel a bit better. It was as she was just lying there taking a nap, without a care in the world. Pretty much the way she lived her whole life. 🐶 7y

My 1st edition of The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym (from The Folio Society) that @NatalieR bought me a couple of years ago. 🤗 I haven‘t fully opened the book yet (only slightly), because it‘s too pretty. Is that bad? 🤭 I ‘posed‘ it beside my Poe (Richard Masloski) statue. I found this one on eBay awhile back when the price was more reasonable. The Poe Museum, in Richmond sells them now. He keeps watch over my front door... 🤫

GarthRanzz Love the statue! Something else for me to track down. 😊 And I do love the Folio Society editions. I never want to take them out of their slipcases. 7y
mypoesoul @GarthRanzz Definitely get the statue, it‘s really heavy and well made. Just expensive, but worth every penny... I got mine when the artist first started making them. I see they have them online, on the Poe Museums website now. https://www.poemuseum.org/art-and-prints/poe-statue-by-richard-masloski 😊 This book will forever be ‘glued‘ to its slipcase... LOL (edited) 7y
GarthRanzz Thanks for the link! Guess I better start saving for my birthday present this year. 😊 7y
mypoesoul @GarthRanzz It‘ll be a good investment. 😉 I just went back through my old email and found my eBay receipt. I paid $190 (which included shipping). I didn‘t realize until I found the email that I purchased it directly from the artist...LOL 🤭 7y
GarthRanzz Well if I get a new membership, mine expired ages ago, I can get a discount that will basically pay for the membership. Not too bad a deal. 7y

mypoesoul @GarthRanzz He had an 1858 copy of Poe‘s Poetical Works (NY - J.S. Redfield). I usually use eapoe.org for a reference (when getting his older books), but I can only find a particular copy online that is different than the one he had. It was in very good condition with lots of illustrations. I know it has to be extremely rare. He was asking $1000, so I don‘t know if that‘s a steal or too much. It‘s impossible to find, it seems. It was beautiful! 😊 7y
mypoesoul @YouReadMyEyes They always do incredible work! 😊 7y

mypoesoul @catebutler Thanks! I may keep it under my pillow tonight. ☺️ 7y
GarthRanzz @mypoesoul That almost sounds a bit much even though it is rare. I worry about editions published after his death where they ask that kind of money when I‘ve owned (yes, past tense, don‘t ask) editors published while he was living for so much less. 7y
mypoesoul @GarthRanzz Yeah, it‘s really difficult to tell. eapoe.org usually does a good job of letting you know the ones that may seem too good to be true, and some of those that were ‘over-published‘. I‘d just feel better if I could find it online, so I‘d have something to reference. LOL This was sitting next to a 6 volume set of Bancroft‘s United States that had the same type of binding. I‘m having a hard time finding those too, probably also 1858. 🤔 7y
GarthRanzz Having a reference to go by is good. And I do keep eapoe.org bookmarked. 😊 Its a good site to have. 7y

Just started the audiobook yesterday. I‘m now enjoying my drive to and from work again. 😊 Arthur Morey narrates the book. His voice is perfect for these type of books and his style is spot on. He narrated Acid Test, which I just finished a few weeks ago (and was phenomenal). So far Rick Strassman‘s book has been incredible. I‘m only about 15% of the way into it, but I 💙 it! 🤗

Arrrggghh! I had to throw in the towel on this one...😞 As much as I love Eddie, the audiobook just wasn‘t for me. Maybe the book itself would be better, but “footnote, blah, blah, blah, end of footnote”, every 15 seconds just tore me down. I‘m still trying to recover, almost the way the guy in the photo being consoled by the referee feels. My drives to and from work were excruciating, so it‘s time for me to find something else. Sorry, Eddie... 😕

GarthRanzz I‘ve never been one for audiobooks but I did want to give this a try. I stopped while listening today because I couldn‘t focus on work, for the exact same reason. Like I said, I don‘t due many audiobooks but if they all do this breakout footnote thing I‘ll stick to ebooks. 7y
mypoesoul I know Eddie loves talking a mile a minute and I think that‘s why I like his comedy, but I couldn‘t keep up with the story. At times, I didn‘t know what was the book and what was a footnote because it changed so rapidly. It works perfect in his standup, but not here, unfortunately... 7y

When you love the book so much that the author starts to appear on the back of your hand (with a little pain and swelling in the process)... LOL 😜 Actually, I got this ‘art‘ a few years ago. Note, the bottom/side of his face are roots, and from the top of his head grows a spooky tree (not pictured) with ravens sitting in it. #poe #edgarallanpoe #tattoo (sorry, I couldn‘t find this book in the Litsy catalog, so I had to reference another)

GarthRanzz One day I will have my Poe tattoo. I regret not making him my first but I hadn‘t found my art when I got my first (so far only) ink. That is definitely one great sounding tat. And that book! Need to find it! Interesting that Litsy‘s version has art by David García Forés instead. 7y

GarthRanzz I guess it is the same book! Totally thought I saw a different artist name on your cover. 7y
cobwebmoth Love it! 7y
mypoesoul @GarthRanzz Thanks! Yeah, I moved fast (with my tattoos) that even my tattoo artist made a comment about it. I have all of the tattoos (so far) organized on my body into each story. All of the pieces of the story together (i.e. my right arm, above the elbow is all The Masque of the Red Death). The next I‘m getting is The Pit and The Pendulum on the middle/lower of my back. I didn‘t think about looking the book up by the illustrator. 🤭 7y
mypoesoul @cobwebmoth Thanks!!! 😊 7y
mypoesoul @GarthRanzz Dang, I searched around on Litsy and couldn‘t find it. I thought with it being a Kickstarter thing, I was out of luck... 7y
GarthRanzz I just wish I could find a physical copy like yours. I only see a Kindle version available and I don‘t do Kindle. Especially with my Poe stuff. As for your tats, I wish I had the strength to do a sleeve but I don‘t think I could. I love the idea of a series of art telling the story. Like 7y
mypoesoul @GarthRanzz I was unaware of The Illustrated Man, I‘m going to have to check that out. As crazy as it may sound, I sort of got the idea (and some motivation) from Prison Break, of tying everything together. I was a big fan of the show, and the whole concept of his tattoos. As for David G. Forés, I really lucked out and found the Poe Kickstarter early. Being on their email list, I ended up getting into his other Kickstarter projects also. 7y

It‘s been almost a year to the day that I got to meet one of my favorite authors. Major depression + anxiety = an extreme case of OCD + lots of meds (yeah, I know), so it makes it very difficult to read, so I rely on a lot of audiobooks. Jenny‘s books are the only ones I‘ve been able to read (cover to cover). My signed copy of Let‘s Pretend This Never Happened (Hardcover) is a rare thing indeed, and one of my most treasured. I 💜 you, Jenny! 😘

mypoesoul @Bookzombie She‘s such a sweetheart. I actually got to talk to her for a couple of minutes (instead of the ‘run through the mill‘ signing) about her books being the first that I could read and we both kinda teared up a little bit for a second or two. It was nice. ☺️ 7y
Zelma That is so very cool! I listened to her on audio as well, and felt like I was just chatting with my best friend in my car. ❤️ 7y
mypoesoul @Zelma She‘s one of those rare people that you feel like you‘ve known your whole life. She has this personality that just draws you in. 🙂 7y
Karkar I loved this book too! So much relatable stories! 7y

I‘m struggling, I really am. I‘m wanting to hit the ‘kill switch‘ at any given moment, but something tells me to keep going, like fighting through some sort of pain. I don‘t know how long I‘m going to be able to last. I‘m a big fan of Eddie, and he‘s a very intelligent man, but the audiobook ‘footnotes‘ he keeps breaking to are slowly killing me. Wish me luck my fellow Littens. I‘m on chapter 6 of 31... 😕

GarthRanzz Oh hell! Not what I wanted to hear! I just loaded this to my phone last night so I could listen at work tomorrow and possibly Saturday. I love Eddie and was so looking forward to the audiobook because he did it himself. 7y
mypoesoul I‘m loving the story he‘s telling (some deep emotional things from his childhood) and a bit of his style of comedy is there, but his constant footnotes are getting a bit distracting. I‘m a big Eddie fan too, so I‘ll probably stick with it. I feel I owe it to him to stay with it, because he‘s made me laugh so hard in the past. It may pick up as I get deeper into it. I‘m just 6 chapters in, and the first two were just commentary and not in the book. 7y
mypoesoul @GarthRanzz I have to say, his Stonehenge routine was one of the funniest things I‘ve ever seen. Talking about the BC/AD cutover and pushing stones 200 miles and not remembering where you live... 😂 Classic! I‘ll admit, I never saw Believe, but I think I‘m going to have to go back and watch it now, especially with listening to this book. 7y

GarthRanzz His birthday was two days ago so I had to rewatch Dressed to Kill. Still the best standup ever that wasn‘t George Carlin. That‘s what made me decide to add the audiobook to my phone to listen to. I‘m still going to give it ago, probably after my last meeting tomorrow. 7y
IamIamIam Hahaha, I'm having an issue with the endless footnotes so I'm trying to take it a little at a time instead of hours on end like the other audiobooks I've listened to. He's great but in smaller doses, I suspect! Lol 7y
mypoesoul @IamIamIam Well said, I‘ve always thought the same thing. I enjoy his comedy, but things can get repetitive sometimes. It can be funny the first 5 or six times, but the 15th or 16th in just a matter of a few minutes starts to bore me... 😖 7y

A great book! I can‘t imagine the pain that Susannah must have experienced during some of the crazy days of hell that she went through. I listened to it (Audible special deal), and the narrator did an incredible job of helping the reader relive the story. To go through this and come out on the other side is nothing short of miraculous. #brainonfire #audible

britt_brooke I bought this audible deal and listened immediately, too. The narration was impeccable! Fascinating and terrifying story. A great read! 7y

Being a huge Lindsey fan, I‘m too biased to give an accurate review. I loved the book, although (and this hurts me to say) the first couple of chapters were for a younger audience. I used the exact signature from my personal signed copy for an addition to my tattoo of The Oval Portrait, by E.A.Poe, with Lindsey being the subject of the painting...#ovalportrait #poe

The Complete Poetical Works of Edgar Allan Poe w/memoir by J. H. Ingram (published 1884). Excellent condition! 😋

Couldn‘t find the right title in the Litsy database. Anyway, finally getting around to posting a Christmas gift from my BFF (aka wife). ☺️

GarthRanzz Love that edition! What an awesome present! 7y
mypoesoul Thanks! Yeah, I was a happy camper on Christmas morning! 😄 7y

I'm not sure why I gave another one of these books a chance? I just finished Magic Mushrooms, by the same author and was utterly disappointed. Blandly stated out, like reading an index. I chose the audiobook, and the narrator makes things almost impossible to listen to, with this slow 'Bueller, Bueller' type of voice. I had to turn the speed up to x2, just to survive the book. Also, learn how to pronounce 'Ayahuasca', it's not 'Ayawooooooooohska'.

Everybody's free to wear sunscreen.... This was exactly what I was thinking as I read this book. It was filled with advice, "whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience..." :) If you remember this song from the 90's, you'll absolutely love this book. It was a complete life changer for me. Perfectly written!

Do one thing everyday that scares you...

But trust me on the sunscreen... ?

One more of the Poe tattoos before I go to bed. I have so many, I could keep this up for days... 😆 The quote describes me sometimes... LOL

One of my many E.A. Poe tattoos (I‘ll post my other Poe tattoos later). Yes, I AM a Poe fan! 😁 This was the first tattoo where I gave the artist full control, and I had no clue what it was until she finished. I didn‘t even peek. 😍 That‘s the top of Annabel Lee‘s head at the bottom of the photo.

We loved with a love that was more than love. - E.A. Poe, Annabel Lee (one of my favorite lines ever). #poe #annabellee #edgarallanpoe #tattoo

I should have known by the title of this book that it probably wasn't going to suit me. I mean, 'Magic Mushrooms' (I guess it's one step up from 'Shrooms')? I understand, this is what a lot of people choose to call them, but when putting together an informational piece of literature, why not use the title 'Psilocybin Mushrooms' to target a more serious reader? #psilocybin #mushrooms #research #psychedelics Goodreads -> https://goo.gl/k12Xsm

My very first Litsy post! 🤗 Easily one of the best things that I've read in a very long time. Incredible from beginning to end. It is very well researched and written. Written to the point that you almost feel like you're having a conversation directly with the author, and the other people that he researched for the book (Michael, Rick, and Nick). Each with their own life changing story. Goodreads -> https://goo.gl/SAuCpy #lsd #mdma #research
