My #botm books are supposed to be delivered today. It's nonstop rain down here and my little mutt isn't feeling well so I need a diversion.
I didn't outright hate this book. If you put all the cuteness about love at first sight aside, there is a deeper meaning to the book. This is a story about one teenager wanting to be his own person and not the person his Korean parents want him to be and another being possibly uprooted from the only home that she knows because she and her family are undocumented immigrants. Many families are being torn apart today by this very issue.
I like the book but not enough to continually read it. I'm not interested in what happens chapter after chapter. Its not bad - I'm not feeling this book just yet. I'll stick with it for now.
This was a very dark, grim and violent read. Not an easy book to get through but I couldn't put it down. What makes this book so unsettling is that version of America could actually happen here. The cause of the second civil war and the environmental changes parallels the current social and political climate of today and reveals an alternate and devastating future.
Currently reading another one of my book of the month club selections American War. 50 pages in and I already I know it's going to be a dark and difficult read. I like what I'm reading but it's not a sunny walk in the park. #botm #bookofthemonthclub
The first read of my April #botm selections. Intriguing true crime story of how the Osage Indians were shot, poisoned and bombed for control of their money and oil - just good ol' American greed and racism. A dark time in American history that I never heard or read about.
No words. If you're a fan of the first book, you MUST read this!
So glad to be finally reading this book! 📚
My #botm choices. I had an extremely rough March. Hopefully I can get back to reading again. 📚
I never expected to get so emotional over a fantasy book but I did. I admit I teared up a little at the end. This book shook me in a good way. Such a satisfying end to an amazing series.
#readoutsidethelines Got this from the library 📚
The book is so much deeper than a story about friendship and life inside a Black church community. I felt for the young adults this book centers on and the ambiguous conclusion left me hoping for a happy ending for all. The multiple narrations, including the collective voices of The Mothers, weren't jarring at all and blended seamlessly into the story. Such a well written debut novel. I can't recommend it highly enough.
This isn't a bad book. I truly enjoyed what I read. Ms. Boxfish sounds like woman I would get a kick out of hearing stories from. But this book isn't clicking for me. Maybe I'll pick it up again and finish it.
My two #botm selections came in today as well as two library reads. This is going to be a busy month of reading. 📚🙂
Can I just say how much I love this comic? I haven't read a comic book in a long time. This one makes me want to start again. ❤️
I chose The Animators for my February #bookofthemonth selection. 📘📙📕📚
January was a good month for reading. We Should All Be Feminists was short but excellent.
Sporadic internet is making it impossible to read my Difficult Women library e-book so I'll read this in the meantime.
It's cold, it's rainy and I'm spending my Sunday buried in bed reading this gem of an e-book I borrowed from the library.
Thanks to NetGalley for this novel. I would recommend this book for pre-teens. As an adult who appreciates teen driven dystopian novels, this was a slight disappointment. My attention wandered and I found myself flipping through pages when I felt the chapter was dragging a bit too much. There could a sequel based on how the book ended but I think I will pass if that comes to be.
I still have two other ARC's to get through. I hope this book doesn't disappoint.
#BookOfTheMonth freebie. Sufficiently creepy. I wasn't expecting the little twist at the end.
It was slow starting but I'm glad I stuck with it. Urban fantasy set in Brooklyn full of culture and diversity. Highly recommended.
Thanks to some amazing e-book deals on Amazon, I added a few books to my #tbr shelf, as if I needed any more. 📚
I was always familiar with Carrie Fisher the actor, not the author. Now that I do, I want to read more of her books. The Princess Diarist was hilarious and heartbreaking all at the same time. I loved it.
It is currently 55 degrees in South Florida. I'm buried deep in my bed with my monster baby and we're not moving. Well, I can't move because Missy is using me as a pillow.
My #bookofthemonth box came today with a little freebie- The Grownup by Gillian Flynn. Love this! 📚❤️
The e-book was available from the library so I just checked it out. I have the audiobook so I'll listen and read along.
The first half of the book moved pretty quickly but slowed down. I flipped through some of the pages because I was anxious to get to the end! The story didn't bore me though. There were enough twists and turns to keep me interested.
If you are a lover of historical fiction and mysteries with a splash of blood, this is for you.
Starting off my new year by reading on of the books I have selected to read for the #LitsyAtoZ challenge. I also challenged myself to read 40 books this year and not the 36 I originally planned to do. I think I can do it. Are you on Goodreads? You can follow me there too.
Happy New Year! 📚❤🙂
WHTIL is a collection of short stories about love, life and the African American experience by various characters during the 60's. While I didn't love this book as much as I expected to, most of the stories did resonate with me, especially Dead Memories...Dead Dreams. This book is definitely worth checking out. 4.5/5
Signed up to do the #LitsyAtoZ challenge. I own the majority of these books so that should make participating in this challenge easier. I'm also reading some of these for Book Riot's #ReadHarder challenge. The only challenge I've ever done reading "x" amount of books a year, never a themed challenge. This should be interesting.

My brother knows me so well. Late Christmas gift. And very timely too.
I hope everyone is having a great Christmas! 📚🎄🎁
Finally getting around to one of my two December #bookofthemonth selections.
I love this series. I can't say enough good things about it. When is Book 4 coming out? 🙂
I'm a little more than halfway through this book. I'm thinking I might finish it over the holiday weekend.
Book 2 of the Jackaby series did not disappoint. Jackaby and Abigail had a "beast" of a case to solve. ?
My second book haul from the Friends of the Library book sale at Miami Dade Library Main Library. I wanted to add some classics to my library but the pickings were slim. I did find some books that were on my TBR list. Now my biggest problem is finding space for these books. I don't have a bookcase or floor space. Ack!
My local library sponsored a Friends of the Library book sale. It was my first year attending and I. And woefully underprepared. If I had known the amount of books available, I would have brought my cart. This stack is $25 worth of books - $1 for paperbacks and $3 for hardcovers. If I didn't have a Rogue One screening tonight I would go back. The sale is until Saturday. Hopefully they'll still be some decent titles left.
Jackaby plans an adventure for Abigail's birthday. A quick and enjoyable read. Curious about the main characters in this series? Start with this. It's free on Kindle.
A little bit of Doctor Who and a whole lot of Sherlock thrown into the mix. A super fun read. I'm gonna dig into the the second book very soon.
