Lunchtime choices - resolution reading (non-fiction) or deconstructed fairytales? Once choice which one won out...
It occurred to me that I never officially made this announcement, but I joined the ranks of Litsy librarians a couple of months ago! Bookseller no longer, now I‘m a children‘s librarian in Brooklyn. Some days (like today) it hits me anew - every day I get to wake up and be a librarian. I have the best job in the world.
I‘m working the late shift at the library today, so I can linger over my breakfast a bit before I head out on my morning run! I‘m reading Rosewater because SFF Yeah! chose it as their first book club book. I‘m not entirely sure what I think of it yet, but I am intrigued.
Eating lunch, starting this beauty, and I could not be more excited if I swallowed a cat and broke out in kittens 😍
I‘m feeling a little book-slump-y, so to ward it off, I decided to revisit a book that I loved. I read this years ago, one cold winter break in college, and I‘ve been thinking about rereading it for awhile now. How do you avoid book slumps? Do you ever see them coming?
It‘s only two sleeps until the NYC marathon, and I‘ve been a bundle of nerves all week. Luckily, tonight I have Seanan McGuire here to keep my mind distracted. The woman can spin a tale, and this urban fantasy is exactly what I‘m needing tonight.
I love this quote from my calendar this month!
New quote up on the quote board today! I thought this one was appropriate for the season 😍
The ARC and the finished copy. I‘m excited to be here at the book launch for this book that I loved!
Just a modern gothic book and a long sleepy train ride kind of day
It‘s October! I celebrate the month by putting together a themed, spooky, atmospheric TBR (it‘s the only month that I read from a set TBR). My list always has to include a reread of one of my faves, The Night Circus! 🎪 🖤 🔮 what are you reading this month?
Marcella Riggins is the angry feminist hero I need right now.
I didn‘t even know that a fourth book was being published/translated until Tuesday! I‘m so excited to read another installment in a series that I love. I found myself near the Strand today, so I swung by and picked up this much coveted book.
Super excited to start this as I run some fun errands on this beautiful early fall day!
At the Renaissance Faire with my Hitchhiker‘s Guide shirt for Time Traveler‘s Weekend (I forgot my towel though 😂). Enjoying some nerd love and a turkey leg!
Coffee this morning with the BRAGGIEST OF GALLEY BRAGS!
I‘m in line for Shakespeare in the Park tickets for tonight. I have The next 4 hours to settle in with this #galleybrag, and I‘m really looking forward to the quality time. 😍
Even though I had only heard good things about The Mere Wife, I was still surprised by how much I liked it! It is a modern retelling of Beowulf that reads kind of like a fable. It has some insightful things to say about race and prejudice and fear and love and how they all complicate one another. Pick this up if you liked The Changeling (or vice versa)!
Current read, meet tiny octopus.
Happy August, Littens! I‘ve been missing from Litsy lately, and I miss all of you. In order to make Litsy a habit again, I‘m setting myself a challenge of posting once a day for the month of August. I‘m not going to use a specific challenge, just catch up with old reviews and quotes and get back into the swing of things. Anyone want to join me?
I don‘t know who had to pull what string to get a copy of this into my hands, but I literally squealed when I opened the package with this in it!!! I‘ve just been petting it for the last 10 minutes. 😍
Sand and the sea and a new ARC by an author who is increasingly becoming a favorite! 🙌
A mojito and magic librarians on my parents‘ porch, and summer never felt so good. #booksandbooze
I swore I was only going to get one tote bag‘s worth 😂
Okay y‘all! I have two FREE passes to BookCon in NYC on June 2-3 that I got from my bookstore! It looks like it‘s going to be a great event, but unfortunately I can‘t go! Is anyone interested? (If there‘s a bunch of interest, I might do a giveaway, so no promises yet, but comment if you would want them!)
Lunchtime reading! I was thrilled when I recently found out that there‘s a WHOLE GENRE called fantasy poetry. Sign me up!
Throwback to yesterday‘s coffee and book session before moving to the park for a day reading outside 😍😍😍
Morning reading featuring my #literarytattoo and more Cat Valente
I already read this in print, but now I‘m giving it a listen in audio. Like Hitchhiker‘s, but better. “Life is beautiful, and life is stupid.” 😍💜😍
I treated myself to a crab cake salad, a glass of wine, and some poetry on my break tonight. 😍
I have some time before my internship today, so I‘m settling in with this beauty! 😍 I‘ve heard so many good things, and I‘m excited to get started!
This came into the store on Friday, so I snuck a copy home early. Today I‘m finishing it up over a breakfast bagel!
New ink, inspired by Cat Valente (quote via The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland... and compass from the cover of Palimpsest.) Who else has literary ink?
New quote ring (in anticipation of new literary ink, my old quote is getting upgraded to permanent next week)!
NK Jemisin is a genius, and I‘m so excited to be sitting down with the final installment in this trilogy! (Though I‘m also bummed because this is the last of her published work that I haven‘t read, so I‘ll have to wait eagerly for more from her!)
!!!!!!!!!!!
Here‘s the thing - do I want to stop reading Valente like she‘s the only writer on earth? Kind of. Can I? Not so much. I‘m in her headspace and I can‘t focus on anything else #readerproblems
I finished Spinning Silver, and it was amazing! I‘ve been thinking about revisiting Uprooted anyway, and now seemed like a good time to do so.
I thought you all would appreciate these kitten cuddles (and you can see my bookish tattoo, so it totally counts as a literary post 😂)
Settled in with my book and cocoa on this cold, rainy night
“But I am someone who loves stories, and I believe in their power.” 😍😍😍
