The Library Book | Susan Orlean

I‘ve been on hold for this book for quite some time and as soon as it was available I knew I had to set my other things aside and read it because I know it will be a while before I can get it again. It was really good - part mystery, part homage to libraries. It‘s sprinkled with so many interesting facts. I really enjoyed the structure and the audio. There were so many little facts there that I would just love to have written down.

BellaBookNook And talk about race I literally just finished a book now and it‘s due back in one hour! I never heard anything about this fire and the way she presented the story was quite fascinating. But all I could think of was my own experience of going to Library as a kid with my mom and just loving it and now doing the same with my kids. Just call me a library nerd!🤓 6y
Crinoline_Laphroaig It was so awesome! 6y

This book has been on my TBR since I first saw Janet‘s interview with Oprah on Super Soul Sunday. This is my first book about a transgender person.
I listened to the audiobook version because she narrated it and I knew I would experience more listening to her speak her truth. There are trigger warnings (sexual abuse). For that reason I had to stop the audio from time to time. I am really glad that I finally read this book and highly recommend it.

Riveted_Reader_Melissa It‘s such a powerful book, and I agree I think it meant even more in audiobook in her own voice. 6y
BellaBookNook @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Definitely. She is so brave to be so open about her experience. Books can help us grow and I feel like this one did just that for me. 6y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @BellaBookNook I know exactly what you mean. I love a great story, told in their own words. I think it‘s what makes readers much more compassionate and empathetic, we have lots of experience through reading putting ourselves in other people‘s shoes. 6y

Just finished while cooking dinner. I really liked how open and honest the author was in the writing. It‘s not so often that you get to read the perspective of an adoptee and one that is not from the same ethnic background. It really showed you how she had to struggle with hurting her parents when choosing to search for her birth parents. It also did a great job sharing the isolation she felt being the only Korean in a white neighborhood. Read it!

I read this for a sci-fi/fantasy book club. Ive only read one book aboutabout Holocaust and that was Night by Elie Wiesel. I am also not sure how many fantasy books are written about the Holocaust. This was one and although it was short and at times fairytale like I had to remind myself that the book was originally written for her young adult audience and was published in 1982. With all that in mind, I think it was a good book. N

Pickpick

I chose to listen to the audio version of the book because Tiffany narrated the book and my general experience is that when the author reads their own book about themselves, they put more into it then you could ever get by reading it. I really think that she was very brave and put forth a lot of personal information in this book. One word I would use to describe it is raw. She had a story to tell and she told it. #blackbooks #blackauthors

Loved book one and two. I think I should have re-read book 2 before reading this. I spent a lot of time trying to remember things. However, it started great, slowed in the middle and action packed in the last third of the book. I enjoyed the book but I am not sure I understood the ending and possibly for the reasons above. Even my review is confusing 😂. It doesn‘t help that I have to do it in 451 words!!! Advice: re-read book two first.
