#bookmail #litworld2018gb Thank you very much @GatheringBooks — I just found my prize from your giveaway on my front porch today!! I love it, and I love that I won something (that‘s very abnormal for me)! I look forward to reading it!
Any Vargas Llosa fans out there? This was my first and I can't wait to try more. Not a horror story as the cover suggests, but horrors of poverty and war abound in this singular novel of a journalist who wants to write about his childhood friend's failed attempt at revolution. Though it will be fiction, he conducts interviews of acquaintances to "know what I'm lying about." Truth and fiction end up blurring together in a weird and wonderful mess.
Edemariam's account of her grandmother's remarkable life is a moving testimony to a courageous woman and a glimpse into decades of Ethiopian history as she watches it unfold. The story begins with her marriage at the age of 8 to a student priest, and follows her raising a large family while managing taxing household responsibilities, through legal fights for her family amidst political uncertainty. Inspiring, sad, indelible- highly recommended!

I‘ve traveled to 25+ countries in 2018, many thanks to the tagged book, a fascinating history of the Mongol rule over more land than the Roman Empire. In addition to countries id‘d in this book (Mongolia, India, Syria, Iraq, Iran, etc), I visited Germany, Wales, Italy, USA, England, Russia, Sweden, Scotland, Nepal, Switzerland, Australia, China, the Netherlands, Turkey, Denmark, Kenya, South Africa, Honduras, Guatemala #litworld2018gb
I‘ve visited 26 countries this year, and my ‘big discovery‘ from these journeys was Serbian author Danilo Kiš - A Tomb for Boris Davidovich. I would love to read books #6.

I would choose #5.
