"As universally touching as it is original." -The New York Times Black Caucus of the American Library Association 2015 Honor Book in Fiction Booklist Starred Review O, The Oprah Magazine "10 Titles to Pick Up Now" A glorious and moving multigenerational, multicultural saga that sweeps from the 1940s through the 1960s in Trinidad and the United States. In a seaside village in the north of Trinidad, young Marcia Garcia, a gifted and smart-mouthed sixteen-year-old seamstress, lives alone, raising two small boys and guarding a family secret. When she meets Farouk Karam, an ambitious young policeman (so taken with Marcia that he elicits help from a tea-brewing obeah woman to guarantee her ardor), the rewards and risks in Marcia's life amplify forever. 'Til the Well Runs Dry sees Marcia and Farouk from their sassy and passionate courtship through personal and historical events that threaten Marcia's secret, entangle the couple and their children in a tumultuous scandal, and put the future in doubt for all of them. With this deeply human novel, Lauren Francis-Sharma gives us an unforgettable story about a woman's love for a man, a mother's love for her children, and a people's love for an island rich with calypso and Carnival, cricket and salty air, sweet fruits and spicy stews-a story of grit, imperfection, steadfast love and of Trinidad that has never been told before.

#2021Book72
I love books with multiple narrators, especially when all of those narrators are members of the same family. This novel is full of love, loss, determination, betrayal, and more than a few family secrets. Every character has a great story surrounding them and guiding their actions, and the three narrators have distinct voices that carry the plot smoothly from one point to the next.

"I have this nagging itch to write women back into history." So thrilled to share Lauren Francis-Sharma's #womenshistoryreads interview on the blog today! She's talking about Trinidad, Meghan Markle, how she'd collaborate with Hilary Mantel, and more. Greermacallister.com/blog

I'm taking a much needed break from YA fantasy...sigh... I guess I failed the #slaythatseriesreadathon I only got halfway through the Grisha Trilogy before it started getting on my nerves.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I did not want this story to end!! Lauren Francis-Sharma I sincerely hope you are working on your second book because this is one of those books you never forget! The characters don't want to leave you. A heart warming, gut wrenching tale of love and life.

After avoiding it for 2 weeks, I've finally decided to DNF this one. There were some dramatic scenes, but oddly no narrative tension. The audiobook narrators were OK ; but clearly not native - a strike in a category w/excellent, authentic readers #ArmchairAudies

LitHousewife I'm about ready to DNF Go Set a Watchman myself. I wish I'd done it before I got to the point of no return. 9y
