Firefight | Chris Ryan

Just wanted to take a moment to say our hearts go out to everyone in the L.A area tonight. Australia has seen more than its fair share of devastating fires so we understand exactly what you are all going through. Though we are currently in our fire season, we‘ve been fortunate to have a La Niña weather system which has brought much rain thank god. We hope the weather gods smile on you too soon. Be safe, evacuate. ❤️?❤️

maich I just heard the news about it on tv. Sending love prayers and hope🙏🙏🙏 3w

Ground Zero | Alan Gratz

Pickpick

Ground Zero, created by Alan Gratz follows two parallel stories that is framed around the 9/11 attack during and after the incident. In 2001, a young boy named Brandon is trapped within the World Trade Center, also known as the Twin Towers, after the terrorist attack happened and tries to survive. In 2019, an Afghan girl named Reshima faces consequences on the ongoing war in Afghanistan from the result of 9/11. Through both characters experiences,

elijah.reibin the book follows the theme terrorism, survival, war, and the risk of their own lives through global conflict. Both characters show how even in tough situations, the only way to survive is to face conflicts, and I highly recommended this book if you like how the main character struggles to overcome obstacles to keep themselves alive. In the photo, it has the recharge of the twin towers, but the symbol throughout the book is the dust on the (edited) 4w
elijah.reibin front of the page. Dust represents the aftermath of the destruction from the twin towers and the collapse of Afghanistan. The violence from Brandon‘s point of view represents the immediate chaos and the loss of purity, while Reshima‘s view on cruelty signifies the ongoing suffering and instability in her world after the 9/11 attack. Throughout the book, dust is the reminder of how the actions of one‘s enemies can affect the individual and society, 4w
elijah.reibin which lets us think of the outcome when violence can become a far-reaching problem. 4w

Pretty good personal account of a woman war photographer who came close to death a few times. She was in Afghanistan and other spots and was a captive in Libya. Includes some photos she took.

The Breadwinner | Deborah Ellis

Pickpick

The Breadwinner was a journey to remember with twists and turns to cherish. The story of a girl and her family against the Taliban soldiers was excellently executed. Parvana, the protagonist, is burdened with the duty of becoming the breadwinner of the family after her father was taken by the soldiers. The family go through a dark time before Parvana comes across Mrs Weera her gym teacher from before the war.

Alaina.Doherty After Mrs Weera gets everyone back on their feet she comes up with a clever idea to make Parvana appear like a boy. She is to change her appearance, name, clothes, and personality to blend in as a boy because women and girls are not to be seen. Parvana was brave and courageous while her family is in need. During this book Parvana meets people from her past life before being forced out of school; including her old friend, Shauzia. 2mo
Alaina.Doherty The two girls find each other and decides to become business partners to help each other out. She is faced with challenges but Shauzia and Parvana‘s ideas to make money work very well and they can stay on their feet. They go on journeys and challenge ideas so they can help their families and help themselves. 2mo
Alaina.Doherty Parvana faces what the Taliban do to people, and is afraid of her life to come. This first person novel is truly fantastic and I wouldn‘t judge the cover on this one. 2mo
