Just okay.
HAPPY TOWEL DAY!
How adorable is the author, Mira Jacob?
My mother and cousin were able to meet Joe Hill a few years ago at NEBA. This book has been on my TBR pile since then and I'm do glad that I started it this weekend. I'm confused and fascinated and really enjoying the writing. I can't wait to absorb more of the book!
It took me a while to get into this book. It really picks up when Slava starts writing. And I always respect a book that teaches me new words. This one taught me demotic, vitrines, and sacerdotal.
This is my favorite of Sarah McCoy's books. The writing is just so beautiful. I kept stopping to read passages aloud to people.
Gene and Phinney have stayed with me since high school. Might be time for a re-read.
I think good books should be translated once per generation. I have a STRANGER from 1948 and 1982, but from England, and a 1988 American. They're all different."
Have you ever given someone a book you enjoyed enormously, with a feeling of envy, because they were about to read it for the first time, an experience you could never have again?
Another book brimming with layers. A revelation at the end made me go right back to the beginning and start it again.
Read it twice. Got so many different things out of it each time.
So many tears. No spoilers but my biggest sobs came in the scene with the new little girls. That's all I'll say.
