A fast-paced, quick ride of a thriller. After having had to push through some pretentious, dense, arty books, it was a relief to read an easy, sexy, yet well-executed story again. While I will say that the ending was a bit too neatly tied up for my taste, it was an exciting read full of twists and turns and rewarding nonetheless. Definitely tempted to pick up more by Rachael Tamayo now!

My August LibraryThing Early Reviewers win showed up today (really fast!). This is YA historical fiction about Tacky‘s Rebellion, a slave revolt in Jamaica in 1760. It‘s an event I‘d never heard of, so I‘m looking forward to learning something new. 😍 #ownvoices #akashicbooks #librarythingearlyreviewers

Zac was a young man suffering from the effects of CTE caused by multiple concussions received during youth and high school football. This book is absolutely heartbreaking and I think his loved ones were incredibly brave to share so much of themselves and Zac. #librarythingearlyreviewers

I got my next LibraryThing Early Reviewers book today. Adding it to my August TBR, which is really growing! I‘m excited to read it, it sounds right up my alley. 📚

Sace That cover is beautiful. 4y
Soubhiville Unfortunately this was a bit too dry and not what I was expecting. @Hooked_on_books maybe you‘d be interested in this one? If so I‘ll drop it in the mail for you. 4y
Hooked_on_books Sure, I love dry. 😂 Just teasing. It sounds interesting to me, especially in contrast to where I currently live with 200+ inches of rain per year. Thanks for thinking of me! I‘ll be watching the PO Box for it. 4y
Soubhiville Lol, I wasn‘t implying that you love boring books or anything @Hooked_on_books ! You just tend to read a lot more NF than I do. I‘ll drop it at the PO some time this week. Let‘s test how damaged they‘ve made the system so far... although I know mail was already taking ages longer than it should to get to you. 4y
Hooked_on_books Sorry, couldn‘t help teasing you a bit. 😜 It‘s true some NF can be dry. I didn‘t read it at all for years but grew to like it more and more in my 30s. For a while I read much more NF than fiction but am more balanced in my reading now. I have plenty to keep me busy until it arrives—I‘ll just be delighted to know it‘s coming. ☺️ 4y

I‘ve kept my final February #weeklyforecast relatively small. I want to finish The Red Sphinx for #YearofDumas, read Nairobi Noir, my #LibraryThingEarlyReviewers win, and read my annotated Persuasion. That edition is really long, though, so it may not happen. I‘m also going to attempt another audiobook. I have the 4th book in this series from #NetGalley, but I thought I should try to “read” the others first.

Cinfhen Just hit me that next week is March! Time is flying - happy reading. BTW: How are you feeling?? 5y
DGRachel @Cinfhen I know! Where has February gone?? It‘s been a rough month, thank you for asking. Blood work was done Friday and I have a follow up with my neurologist March 12th. I don‘t know whether to hope for something to show up there or not. Not means a spinal tap is next. 🤢 5y
Cinfhen Oh God, that‘s awful. I understand the dilemma/ you want to just feel well again and you‘d like answers. Praying for good news 💗 5y

Megabooks @DGRachel I‘m sorry you‘re going through that. I‘ll send positive energy that you don‘t have to have a spinal tap!! I hope you get the best possible news! 💙💙 5y
Crazeedi @DGRachel I didn't know you were struggling with health issues. Sending you a hug and positive energy💕 5y

I am honestly surprised this book and author have not gotten more attention. These stories are weird! Not surreal exactly, but they all have some kind of flip that is clever and unusual, and good. And they are SHORT stories—the novella is closer to what I usually think of as a short story. And that novella? It‘s a Lizzie Borden choose-your-own adventure. #shortstories #librarythingearlyreviewers
