This book is a lover letter to the Owens Valley, a place that is so easy to fall in love with. Knowing that this area is just a few hours drive from my home in Nevada gives me great joy as I can totally understand the author's love and pride in it. If you love books from Cheryl Strayed, Rebecca Solnit, or Terry Tempest Williams, I highly recommend this memoir.

A memoir about a girl growing up in the Owens Valley in the shadows of the Sierra Nevadas in California. I haven‘t been camping recently but when I do we go to the Sierra Nevada mountains and every time the beauty takes my breath away. On my tbr list.

I was lucky enough to get a copy of this from the #LibraryThing #EarlyReviewers program back in 2020, and I‘m so glad I finally picked it up. A moving family memoir but even more remarkable for the gorgeous, dense writing and for its meditations on California. I now have a long list of things about my state, past and present, that I need to know more about! I will absolutely read more from Atleework if she writes it.

𝙈𝙞𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙡𝙚 𝘾𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙮 is a superbly literary and lyrical work of creative nonfiction. Kendra Atleework's use of language is stunningly good for a debut work, and carries the reader effortlessly through the changing focus of her story.

Started this one last night to take a break from all the mysteries I‘ve been reading. Anticipating non-fiction November, I guess.

5🌟I really enjoyed this memoir! Atleework weaves past and present seamlessly. A memoir about returning home, overcoming painful pasts and finding where you truly belong. This book was reminiscent of Cheryl Strayed's memoir Wild. About losing and finding yourself, the complexities and love of family, but also about the realities and affects climate change can have on people. Expected July 14th! #bookreview #bookstagram
