2/5⭐ Aside from a handful of charts, any useful information in this book is buried in bloated paragraphs of repetition and padding. Even just skimming the majority of pages was a frustrating experience. Though images were often the same set from different angles, they were cute.

#Naturalitsy

It is so important to rethink how we garden, wild and wonderful is the key. Leave the neat and tidy behind

1. Nature! There are so many public gardens in my area. I plan to visit a lot more this year.

2. Our daughter is visiting from Germany for 10 days. She made us dinner tonight!

I‘ve been reading this one for the past month to get design ideas for our backyard! Wish it had a better variety of examples, a lot of landscaping featured homes on wooded lots. I did find a few useful ideas though, especially to turn our drainage easement into a dry creek bed.

Cinfhen Cool choice 💕 3y
SamAnne Do you have any books you recommend? I probably need one geared towards the dry Inland NW focused on pollinator plants and low water. The earth can‘t support lawns in low water, desert climes. But also looking for good ideas on structure and design! 3y
alisiakae @SamAnne not yet, but I‘ll let you know if I find something. We‘ll be taking away most of our grass for a similar reason, our hot summers aren‘t great for grass either. We plan on planting a lot of trees at the back of our yard where our lot meets the woods. 3y
BarbaraTheBibliophage Planning a project like this is so daunting!! Sorry the book wasn‘t more help. 🌱 3y

Pickpick

I liked this — the text emphasizes importance of natural and native landscapes & has many gorgeous photos with an extensive plant index. *But* it emphasizes mid-Atlantic states such as mine (both authors are local to me), and the plant lists don‘t indicate whether they‘re likely to be deer-proof. That last part is particularly important for us. At right of this photo, see almost no understory below the tall trees due to over-grazing by deer.

ValerieAndBooks @Lynnsoprano here‘s what I think of this one! 4y
Lynnsoprano It doesn‘t sound as if it‘s for me; thanks for thinking of me! I actually have two gardening books specifically for Florida on order. One is on Florida wildflowers and the other about butterfly gardening. I‘ll post when I get them. 4y
ValerieAndBooks @Lynnsoprano yes, the other books by Doug Tallamy (one you have already) are a better fit for you. This one is much more regional focused. I look forward to your posts on your incoming books! 4y

@Lynnsoprano look — we just got this book 😊. Should give us some ideas for our property!

Finally finished the winter scene puzzle in the background! It was harder than it seemed. Next up is one called “houseplant jungle” ☺️

Lynnsoprano That looks so good! Onto the TBR it goes 😄 I need to post a picture of the butterfly garden I‘ve started. 4y
ValerieAndBooks @Lynnsoprano would love to see your butterfly garden! I‘ll let you know what I think of this book — examples seems to lean heavily towards those in mid-Atlantic states. 4y
Suet624 That puzzle looks super hard!! 4y
ValerieAndBooks @Suet624 yes it was harder than I expected. All the snow and tree branches, I guess! The top part is cut off in the picture but is all bare tree branches. (edited) 4y
