What a tragic yet captivating tale!

I added this book to my “To Read” shelf on Goodreads way back in March of 2015. Now 9 years later I finally read it and I‘m so glad I did.

There is nothing happy about this story, but it‘s beautiful and intriguing in its own way. Immediately upon starting, I was pulled right into the story.

Essays Two | Lydia Davis

Davis is a translator and writer. This book contains essays which are a sort of journal of her translation process. She has translated Flaubert and Proust, and the essays discuss how she makes choices and solves problems. She also records her adventures in teaching herself Norwegian by reading a difficult novel without any resources.
I found it fascinating, but then I think I am a frustrated translator.

This is the coolest book! I found it while walking past a shelf at my library and somehow its spine caught my attention. It shows major events in French history through the transformation of this structure. No words, just the years and the changes. It was such an interesting way to experience this history. After reading, I was delighted to find the timeline at the back that helped contextualize some of the pages. #History #French

I made it 26 pages in but have to admit that I just am not enjoying this comic. There‘s nothing wrong with it, I just don‘t seem to be feeling the author‘s style. I have many reviews to catch up on, so I guess I will move on! #Comic #Food #French

This was a good perspective on the differences between American and #french parenting. Well researched and the author shares personal stories and tactics for raising children.

I love finding nonfiction graphic novels, especially memoirs. In this, Sylvie reflects on her artist journey, as well as her experiences growing up with a narcissistic mom. I enjoyed finding out that her family is Jewish, and it was fun seeing her develop new romances and her ideal bedroom along the way. Content warnings for antisemitism and nationalism. #Nonfiction #GraphicMemoir #Comic #Jewish #French

This was such a cute graphic novel! The author inserts his family into a fictional mystery investigation lead by his wife, an amateur private eye. It‘s “a maternity leave mystery that centers on a new mother in all her post-partum glory.”

Thank you for putting this in my path, @jlhammar ! My library had a copy and it was a delight. #graphicnovel #canada #french
