The Stonewall Reader | New York Public Library

I read a good bit of nonfiction this month - six titles, although half of them were children's picture books. June's spot is going to The Stonewall Reader

This is a really great resource on the LGBTQ movement. It recounts the Stonewall Riots from multiple first hand perspectives, through interviews & articles written at the time. It also explores other events leading up to that night, which set the stage for the uprising, & the years afterwards. It spotlights the activists who led the fight for gay rights.
I recommend listening to the audiobook, as some of the interviews are the original recordings

Kenyazero Sounds amazing! Good to know about the interview audio in the audiobook as well! 3mo
Riveted_Reader_Melissa That sounds great! Thank you for putting it on my radar 3mo

Sort of obsessed that RWRB was my first introduction to the notorious George Villiers, and now Nicholas Galitzine (AKA Henry George Edward James Fox-Mountchristen-Windsor) is playing him in Mary and George! What an incredible series! I delved into the Jacobean era after reading RWRB for the first time, and love this series even more because of it. Thank you Casey McQuiston! #RWRB #CaseyMcquiston #queerhistory #HistoryHuh #nonfiction #LGBTQ

Queer: A Graphic History | Meg-John Barker

A bit more dense than I expected from a graphic history—but that‘s because it‘s a history of queer theory and theorists, rather than of the gay liberation movement like I expected. It was pretty interesting and definitely informative. Queer theory is very complicated and entangled.

The Development and Engagement director at Lambda Literary posted on Instagram that they‘re looking for shelfies! They are sick of using stock images only to crop/zoom and see books with titles relating to extraneous topics. If you have a shelf or stack of exclusively queer books, why not snap a pic and send it in- they‘ll credit your photo as well if you‘d like. Here‘s the link: https://forms.gle/vYNvpddVe684kAhH8

JenniferEgnor I love this! 13mo

The Fifth Beatle: The Brian Epstein Story | Vivek J. Tiwary, Ancrew C. Robinson

This book is stunningly beautiful and has many unique page layouts (which I love in comics)! I wasn't familiar with Epstein's history, so I learned a lot from the true parts of this book. The author does use some creative lisence such as adding Moxie to the story. I picked this up because it was a Bonus Borrow on Hoopla. #QueerHistory #Beatles #LGBTQ #MusicHistory #Nonfiction #Comic #JewishHistory

I'm concentrating on reading my library books so I can get them returned and then concentrate on reading my owned TBR books.
This was informative, thoughtful and thought provoking, and I wouldn't mind having it in my personal library.

TieDyeDude I saw this at my library yesterday, but opted to reread Gender Queer. I'll make sure to check this out next time! 2y
Bookwomble @TieDyeDude They're quite different books, Gender Queer being, as you obviously know, a biography, whilst this book is more academic, being an introduction to Queer Theory. Both good in their different ways 🙂 2y

I‘ve signed up for #lmpbc . This is my first time doing a book club or anything like this. I started a group for LGBTQ+ books, if anyone is interested in joining. Signup is over at @suvata ‘s page. 🏳️‍🌈

Reggie I just signed up a minute ago. 1 1/2 years ago we did one of these right before pride in June and it was great. 3 of us were queer and the 4th was straight and we all had good choices and great comments. Looking forward to this 2y
psalva @Reggie glad to have you join in. That sounds like it was a good time. 2y
