#VolumesAndVocals

Maybe it‘s because this series is a recent fave (I binged the first two books & my hold for the third tagged book just came in & I‘m trying to clear reading space for it this week), but I feel the core four elderly friends in the Thursday Murder Club have a definite #StandByMe vibe with each other & the friends they have picked up along the way.
They have each other‘s back “Whenever you're in trouble won't you stand by me…” ❤️

Eggs Well done👏🏻👍🏼👏🏻 1y

I immediately thought of this one, however it is the opposite of #standbyme 😬 💙 💍💛 I ready disliked Celestial…

#VolumesandVocals

Eggs Her name doesn‘t really match her values/behaviors… 1y
Vansa I found this book quite awful, honestly. As you've said,Celestial is quite unbearable and the book is written to make her troubles seem as material as Roy's, when he's literally in jail. The book glossed over how difficult his jail term must have been, and ended with a bizarre scene where he's almost violent with her,and then I'm supposed to think he's a nice guy because he stops??The reviews this book got baffled me 1y
Eggs @Vansa Maybe this book belongs in an anthology of broken marriages/broken humans 1y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @Vansa completely agree!! 1y

This story of 4 summer camp friends kept making me think of the line from #StandByMe : "I never had any friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?"

#VolumesAndVocals

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Looks good!! 1y
TheBookgeekFrau @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks It was good--lots of 80s references and great friendships. The writing isn't great, but it's entertaining 1y

The movies came out a few years apart, but this one reminded me a little of #standbyme in terms of kids out doing things they weren‘t supposed to be doing and encountering a dead body. #volumesandvocals

Karkar This was a fun one. I had forgot how messed up Apt Pupil was. 6y
JulAnna It was fun to re-read this. I was surprised at how much content from the Shawshank Redemption movie was actually not in SK‘s original. Also, these are the stories that I wish everyone who dismisses him as a ‘horror writer‘ should read. There is some just plain good writing here, imo. 6y
DGRachel @JulAnna I agree wholeheartedly. It‘s been nearly 30 years since I‘ve read The Body, but I remember loving the writing so much. 6y
Readingismyescape @Karkar I listened to this one and found Apt Pupil hard to get thru. The writing is good, but the story is tough. 5y
Readingismyescape @DGRachel The Body & Shawshank Redemption were amazing and I rewatched the movies and loved them again too. 5y

teainthelibrary How did I not know this was a thing? What is the next read?? 6y
DGRachel @teainthelibrary We‘ve been going through all of King‘s books in publication order for about a year and a half now. It‘s a very casual buddy read. Each books starts on the 19th of the month, with open discussion on or about the 18th of the following month. It‘s open to everyone who wants to join in. I‘ll add you to the list of people I tag, if you want. I‘ll also try to find this year‘s schedule & tag you in that post. 😊 6y
teainthelibrary @DGRachel amazing! Thank you so much for the tags! I just might join the next two since I recently just finished Pet Sematary and have Christine on my bookshelf 😍 6y
