Ugly Love: A Novel | Colleen Hoover
Mehso-so

Tate is in nursing school, working around the clock & living with her brother. When she stumbles into one of her brothers neighbors, miles, her heart skips a beat. They form a relationship that should have no future, but together they find healing& fulfillment in one another. Miles has a traumatic past he never wanted to expose to Tate, but in doing so he freed his pain. Lots of repetitive romance scenes but a feel good book that keeps you hooked!

This is a first edition copy from my library….that cover. Pub date 1976. I‘m glad I went into this book blindly bc you think you‘re just getting a coming of age book in the 1950s in the South but it‘s so much more than that. Covers the severe racial injustice that was going on at the time and the path of one young privileged white coed from slight concern for the plight of blacks to an a more evolved compassion and understanding. #Alabama

JanuarieTimewalker13 It‘s tragic that society considers you a “radical” for just despising injustice and having compassion. 6d
JanuarieTimewalker13 Book 23 2025 11/5/25 This book was packed with cool 1950s cultural references like Revlon‘s Fire and Ice Advertising campaign and Springolator shoes….lol had to look those up. Crinolines (?) which I have yet to look up. It also references a TON of books because Maggie was a voracious reader… 6d

5 ⭐️- a tumultuous journey, coming of age. All of the feels of joy and intense grief. Excellent narration. It was very palpable for me and I felt acute pain at times but the story was worth that.

Thank the goddesses I'd not planned much today.
I picked this up from the library Monday and finished it today. She's so sublimely brilliant at writing from the soul yet no saccharin or twee paragraphs to contend with.
Her use of characters and normal life is wonderful.
Close to tears throughout much of this novel.

I'm pretty much done with the Reunion trope.
Especially when it comes to dual timelines. They all seem to blend together now. Just another close-knit group of suspects with buried pasts, set against a college backdrop that feels a bit too far removed from real life.

This book wasn't terrible, I'm just really tired of the whole "I know what you did Last Summer" theme.

Loved it! Nostalgic, romantic, melancholy, heartbreaking and somehow cozy all at once. All the feels and such a vibe. Started in print (lovely) but finished on audio on a long drive and the narrator was perfect. This is such a book lovers book. The reading list I made of stories and books and authors mentioned is endless. King writes so beautifully about ‘writers and lovers‘(pun intended.) I‘ll be thinking of Jordan and Yashi for quite some time.

LeahBergen Great review! I already have it stacked or I‘d be adding it. 😆 3w

I‘ve had a huge #bookhaul recently! Many library holds as well as the middle ones I picked up at a deep discount.

The only one I‘ve finished is the King (tagged). I desperately wanted to LOVE it, but the last section‘s emotional manipulation felt fake to me, which was disappointing after such a strong start. I‘m still in a rough recovery so YMMV. Still worth reading though! (It was 4⭐️ instead of 5⭐️.) Personal update ⬇️

Megabooks I had a check in with my surgeon then a CT scan, and it looks like my pain is not related to surgical issues (infection, technique issues, etc.). So that leaves it in the MCAS/GI space, so I‘ll have to consult those doctors. Yes, that is a winter sweater I just recently washed!! 🤣🤣 4w
AmyG Hope they are able to diagnose your pain…so you feel better. I am sad to read about this King book. I‘ll still read it. 4w
Bookwormjillk I hope the pain issue resolves soon. 4w

This was so so good! Sad and heart breaking at times it‘s a book about life, relationships, challenges, regrets and disappointments. It‘s short and sweet, and heavy and thought provoking all wrapped up in a one or two sitting read. Kinda perfect.

BarbaraBB Can‘t wait to read it! 4w

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book explores how the choices we make in our youth ripple throughout our lives, steeping readers in a sea of nostalgia, contemplation, and emotion. I thought it was so thought-provoking that the narrator is unnamed; her identity is shaped by the men who assign her names (Daisy, Jordan, Pollyanna, Hink) and view her through those projections. ⬇️

ICantImReading I preferred the college-year sections over the present-day ones, which felt a bit contrived, but overall it was lovely.🎧 1mo
ICantImReading “You know how you can remember exactly when and where you read certain books? A great novel, a truly great one, not only captures a particular fictional experience, it alters and intensifies the way you experience your own life while reading it. And it preserves it, like a time capsule.” 1mo
