Ruthiella Mrs. Millard was very intriguing! Such a good character. 7mo
julieclair The plot was not predictable to me, either. And I loved Mrs. Millard. I‘d like to read a book devoted to her! 7mo

Librarybelle I‘m tempted to try one of these Furrowed Middlebrow books one of these days… 7mo
LeahBergen Mrs. Millard was great! She was just happy the way she was, wasn‘t she? 7mo
LeahBergen @Librarybelle I think you‘d like them! 😊 7mo

kwmg40 @Ruthiella @julieclair @CarolynM @Aimeesue @LeahBergen @batsy @rubyslippersreads Nice to see so much love for Mrs. Millard. I feel as if I could have used a Mrs. Millard in my life in my younger days! 7mo
kwmg40 @Librarybelle Most of the ones I've read have been light and heartwarming books but with enough substance to make them interesting. I've also been enjoying reading books from the 40's and 50's and learning more about everyday life in those times. 7mo
kwmg40 @Andrew65 Thanks for stopping by! 7mo
Jess_Read_This @Ruthiella @julieclair @CarolynM @Aimeesue @LeahBergen @batsy @rubyslippersreads Here Here to an Augusta Millard spin off book! Though I have to think she‘d tell the lot of us she never wanted to see us again. And jaunt off to Pompeii in research of her next book. 😂 7mo
Ruthiella @Jess_Read_This 😂😂😂 7mo
Aimeesue @Jess_Read_This oh, she absolutely would. We could expect nothing less. 7mo
julieclair @Jess_Read_This I‘d like to follow her to Pompeii! 🤣 7mo
kwmg40 @Jess_Read_This You're exactly right! I'm sure August Millard wouldn't have the patience for a spin-off book no matter how much we wanted her in it! 😂 7mo

For a book about a lot of little nothings, like a Seinfeld episode, it is Pym‘s writing that kept me interested and focused. Wilmet, our MC and narrator, learns a bit about herself and life through the course of the novel and that life is filled with a “glass of blessings.” There are also parts to this that are surprisingly hilarious, as if Pym sneaks in a punchline. Another great read with #PemberLittens #HashtagBrigade #1958 #192025

Jess_Read_This Love Barbara Pym! She‘s got such a rich way of describing food and beverages in her books too. I often wonder if it was important and meaningful for her to write in a novel due to living in rationing times. 11mo
Librarybelle That‘s a good thought, @Jess_Read_This ! I had not thought of that! 11mo

The Bell | Iris Murdoch

Pickpick

The setting is a small religious community in #Gloucestershire where people find refuge who try to escape the real world. The community values virtue and moral codes but almost everyone disobeys the unwritten rules which set in motion various events, all related to the old bell that has been missing from the bell tower for ages. An enjoyable read but by far not as good as The Black Prince and The Sea, the Sea.

Librarybelle Interesting! 1y
MommyWantsToReadHerBook I do like this one even though it's not her strongest work. 1y
BarbaraBB @MommyWantsToReadHerBook Me too, I had a good time reading it. I jus expected some kind of a twist that didn‘t really come. 1y

I knew of Paddington but I don't remember reading this as a child. What a delight! Paddington gets into some funny predicaments because of his adorable naivete. Bless the Brown family who just keep loving him along the way. I think I have a new "go to" gift for the littles in my life.

thewallflower0707 You really have to watch the two movies, they are both excellent ✨ 2y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @thewallflower0707 Thanks! Last night I asked my guy if he'd ever read the Paddington books because the first one was cute. He swears I had no childhood because I don't remember anything he does. BUT without even asking, he put on the first one to watch. The second will probably be viewed this weekend. 2y

Absolutely delightful! Venetia is one of my favorite Heyer heroines - they are always uniquely unconventional, but she was exceptional! Good thing she was of strong character, because she had to endure some infuriating people!

What a great choice, Chrissy! Such a fun round #LMPBC #GroupL !

#1958 for #192025

Librarybelle I should read some of my Heyer for the challenge! 2y

A man and a woman is found dead in the beach. Cyanide. It‘s concluded to be a lover suicide. But one of the detectives on the case doesn‘t believe this. Why would the man have eaten alone, wouldn‘t a woman in love have accompanied him even if it‘s just for a tea? So the investigation begins.

1st book for #AwesomeAugust
