Reread confirms it. Still my favourite book. The one that got me out of a decade long reading slump two years ago, before I'd read any other Discworld books. Having now read all of them, and reread all the City Watch books, I'm overjoyed that it lives up to my memory. 1/?
Sam Vimes proves that he is unable to detach from his work by solving crimes on vacation at his wife's ancestral country house. His growth as a character is really on full display here as he argues for goblins to be considered human.
With this read, I've achieved my goal of reading all the Night Watch Discworld books this year! Prachett fans - which arc should I read next? The wizards? The witches?

Did I mention that I don't like the new German covers? At least the story stays the same and that's what matters most.
This one dragged a bit and felt a tiny bit too long, but I still enjoyed the book. How could one not love how Sir Terry addresses racism? In such a lovely way. Only Terry Pratchett can make a feel good story out of this topic. And add something cute and innocent right next to violence and darkness.
Parts if this novel are marvelous, parts of it are a slog, and parts of it leave a very bad taste in my mouth. I think the Vetinari speech at the end is a very sour note! And this is also the last Vimes book and, well, I wish it had come together better.

Commander Sam Vimes‘s family vacation is interrupted by a brawl, a murder, drug trafficking, slavery, an examination of complicity in the face of atrocities, and the question of what makes a person and who should be protected by the law.
An intense read, with a bit of a slow start. Sam Vimes is in my top five favorite characters. Ever. His growth, his gruff compassion, his ability to look at himself and do better, just *chef‘s kiss*. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑
Still working through this book and I can honestly say this is the first Discworld book where I want more of the Colon plot. #OokBOokClub

Vimes is forced very reluctantly by Lady Sybil to take a vacation. They go to her family‘s old manor in the countryside, which is full of trees, which according to Sam are just tall weeds with strong stems. 🤣
A lot of this one is about the plight of goblins, who at the beginning of the book are considered vermin and have no rights. I love Pratchett‘s way of showing the evolution of thoughts of one character then all of Anhk. Loved of course!
Okay, like, at the end of this fight with the blacksmith who hates the rich? When Vimes tries to be like "listen, I'm a normal dude" and then the blacksmith gets threatened by the existence of all his powerful connections? Like, is this book going to connect the dots? I don't remember. This is frustrating.

I realize that I am only listening to this book while driving around, but I'm just over 2 hours in and nothing has happened??? There's been a suggestion of a wisp of something happening.

Next on my tbr list. Last discworld to read...maybe I will start again from the beginning.
”I know that I am a small, weak man, but I have amassed a large library; I dream of dangerous places.” ......... nice quote, speaking of libraries ... I visited B&N today for their 50% off sale & picked up 10 hardcovers. The 8 classics have great paper weight & illustrations. LOVE! Not one audiobook in sight. Birthday gift card spent. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 😁🤗🥰
Rereading thoughts: A take on racism and dehumanization that circles around the concept of classism, and offers definitions of personhood that hinge on _making_.
Good news for those of us in the #PratchettPosse who like these Collector Library hardcover editions - two new ones coming in November!

Sybil forces Commander Vimes to go on vacation in the countryside where he promptly finds a murder to solve, among other things. This time, the trouble concerns the treatment of goblins.

Another test post... this time a gratuitous cat & book pic! #catwithbook

Crystal Slam
One of the most dangerous drugs available to trolls, crystal slam is first mentioned in Snuff. It looks like stone dust, but appears to have little red and blue flecks in it when held to the light. Its manufacture is very difficult, partly because of the unmistakable smell and sparks produced when boiling it.

“As the message drained away Vimes stared at the opposite wall, in which the door now opened, after a cursory knock, to reveal the steward bearing that which is guaranteed to frighten away all nightmares, to wit, a cup of hot tea.*
* The sound of the gentle rattle of china cup on china saucer drives away all demons, a little-known fact.” #Cup #QuotsyDec18
“... the bestselling novel taking the Ankh-Morpork literary world by storm was dedicated to Commander Samuel Vimes.
The title of the book was Pride and Extreme Prejudice.”
I haven't read Snuff yet, because I don't want The Watch novels to be over 😥

Thank you, #Littens for sharing your quotes for #QuotsyNov18! I loved seeing your posts all month 😊 I hope you'll join me again in December!
“They lived on the edge too, but...they danced on the edge, they jumped up and down on it, made faces at it, thumbed their snotty noses at it, refused to see the peril of their situation and, in general, seemed to have a huge appetite for life, alcohol, adventure and alcohol. As a copper, he shouldn‘t say it, because they could be a bloody #nuisance, but there was something commendable about the cheerfully feisty way they faced, well, everything."
I disregarded my #bookbuyingban AGAIN! *sigh* I needed to kill some time and I was planning on just browsing but... I can never leave #McNallyRobinson without buying something! The only consolation is that both were on my #TBR. #BookishProblems #BookBuyBanFAIL #BookAddict
As a teacher of small people I often receive end of term gifts. Tops is a gift card for art puppies tied with one for books. Now I‘m in the midst of deciding which Discworld I want to add to my permanent collection. I‘m leaning towards Carpe Jugulum but Snuff is a close second.
You say "this is my land," but you did not make the land. You did not make your sheep, you did not make the rabbits on which we live, you did not make the cows, or the horses, but you say, "these things are mine." This cannot be a truth. I make my ax, my pots, and these are mine. What I wear is mine. Some love was mine. Now it has gone.
Another amazing Pratchett and I absolutely adore the Goblins. 😹💛 5/5 , Of course. The city watch are some of my favourite characters on the Disc and this countryside take was witty and funny and a little bit bizarre too. Willikins is naturally a new favourite character. 🤗 #terrypratchett #sirterrypratchett #discworld #speakhisname #pterry #pratchetttheduckout #fantasy
Time for coffee and a quiet 10 minutes reading. I‘ve been a bad egg and thanks to temptation in the form of Persephone Books and temptresses in the form of @miralunasbooknook I have brought one of the new Persephones despite being on a non-uni book ban until the end of May. 👀🤫 It‘s okay I think because it‘s been over 3-4 months since I last added to my Persephone collection. 🤗 #booklover #terrypratchett #discworld #bookblogger #bookish
Delving into some Pratchett today to pass the time until my new books arrive tomorrow evening. I find these books perfect time fillers, pick me ups and just reads in general, but I do enjoy rereading favourites between books. I don‘t read much fantasy but I‘ve read so much histfic and nonfiction lately that I think a touch of the bizarre is in order. #terrypratchett #sirterrypratchett #discworld #pterry #pratchetttheduckout #speakhisname #fantasy
“The worst thing you can do is nothing.” #protest #quotsynov17 #pratchettquotes
Snuff is Sir Terry's strongest stance against oppression - still humorous but has a definite sad edge to it.
Change of position but still snoozling :-D #dogsoflitsy #RosieVizsla
Early for an appointment so getting a few pages in. I've read this one but remember virtually nothing. Sam Vines is my favourite Discworld character so, even though it's nowhere near his best, I will enjoy this.
I am seriously laughing out loud over the antics of Vimes and Upshot. The narrator is absolutely the best! I may prefer TP as audio books, but just slightly.
