The Dirt: Confessions of the World's Most Notorious Rock Band | Tommy Lee, Vince Neil, Nikki Sixx, Mick Mars
The most influential, enduring, and iconic metal band of the 1980's reveals everything a tell-all of epic proportions. This unbelievable autobiography explores the rebellious lives of four of the most influential icons in American rock history. Motley Crue was the voice of a barely pubescent Generation X, the anointed high priests of backward-masking pentagram rock, pioneers of Hollywood glam, and the creators of MTV's first "power ballad." Their sex lives claimed celebrities from Heather Locklear to Pamela Anderson to Donna D'Errico. Their scuffles involved everyone from Axl Rose to 2LiveCrew. Their hobbies have included collecting automatic weapons, cultivating long arrest records, pushing the envelope of conceivable drug abuse, and dreaming up backstage antics that would make Ozzy Osbourne blanch with modesty. Provocatively written and brilliantly designed, this book includes over 100 photos, many never before published, for the most exciting and insightful look ever into the Crue.

Re-Read for me, and it was just as fun the second time around.
This book makes you feel like part of the band. It is fun, wild, and rough. The debauchery is insane - you can't help but read on. I found myself feeling sorry for every member of the band at one point, especially Vince, when his 4 year old daughter died and Mick throughout the entire book due to his illness and treatment from the others. Even if you're not a fan, this is outstanding.

After reading "The Heroin Diaries", I decided to re-read "The Dirt".
I read this on holiday years ago and always used to look forward to Tommy's chapters. His first one didn't fail ?

11 - Out of order! But listened to this on audio after reading the first bit in my physical copy. I like personal anecdotes in audiobook form as it feels more like the person is telling you their story in conversation. As expected it was not G-rated in the slightest but interesting nonetheless!

I went back and forth between Like and So-So. I settled on Like when I realized that I was letting my opinions of their behavior influence me. The book itself is a great read, and the audiobook adds another great layer with its multiple voices, especially the guy who reads Tommy. I learned lots about the Crüe I didn‘t know and the titling of the chapters cracked me up.

🎧 It‘s difficult not to compare this book to the other rock books I‘ve read recently. The Korn & Van Halen books seemed genuine & I couldn‘t help but like them on a personal level. This book was a huge disappointment. These guys are being described as miserable, violent, criminal, addicts. There isn‘t much about their actual musical talents just lack there of. There‘s multiple viewpoints & narrators. Good book but disillusioning. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

All the yes!!
I got introduced to Motley Crue from The Dirt on Netflix so of course I got the book.
The story of Motley Crue is one hell of a wild roller-coaster of a ride.
There's ups, down and everything in between.
These dudes are lucky to be alive.

I read this book back when it came out, this was reread/listen in Audio format. When I noticed that it wasn't narrated by the members of the band, I was disappointed...but after listening...I'm not anymore. These narrators are all seasoned narrators and very good at it. Since narrating is a form of acting, I get why they had other guys narrate for them.

I've been aware of this book since it's publication, but never took much interest in it because I thought that the repetitive themes of drinking, having sex, and doings lots of drugs would get boring and repetitive. But I changed my mind after watching the Netflix adaptation, and I'm glad that I did because I learned some interesting facts about the band that I never knew before.

keithmalek @Velvetfur You were correct about them being horrible people, but I think that Nikki Sixx tended to exaggerate how horrible. For example, he made a couple of references to that "rape" in the closet. Not only did it not sound like rape to me, but the "victim" did not consider it to be rape, or even sexual assault. It's weird that Sixx would want to repeatedly put such a terrible story out there. 5y

Tommy Lee writing about his preparation for his first date with Pamela Anderson. You would think that he wouldn't need all that extra equipment considering the fact that his penis is about the size of my leg, but I guess that's not the case.

I loved reading this guilty pleasure and living the fast life vicariously through these guys. Within a few minutes of reading, I was sucked into the hurricane of dysfunction that is Motley Crue. There were many feelings of disgust and a lot of “what the fuck is wrong with you?! Why would you do that?!” After reading this, I am honestly amazed how these guys are still alive, functioning and that their dicks haven‘t necrosed and fallen off.

Like most of the Mötley albums I grew up with, half of this book is hall of fame material. The other half reads like a Tommy Lee gossip magazine. Read it for the 80s stories, and then stick with it because you‘re a loyal Crüehead, regardless of how bad it gets.

I grew up listening to hair metal in the 80‘s. My Mom blasted Dr. Feelgood on the car ride to elementary school every single day. This book reads as a manual for how to mess up your life very quickly. I loved every word of it. Every story rings true and not embellished in anyway. If you are a rock music fan, this is a must read.

I've had the flu, I didn't want to read my current book and not remember it, so I started reading The Dirt by Motley Crüe to fill time. For someone who has met the band, loved their music through the years, and been front and center at their concerts, I should not have read this book. The idealized version I had of the band was better than the reality they explained in this book. I still love the music though.
