“You can‘t just go around murdering people. There are rules, Nimona.”
This quote reflects the moral ambiguity in the story, reminding us that even in a world of villains and heroes, the line between good and bad isn't always clear.
Got this out of the library because I plan to read through the NPR 100 Favorite Comics and Graphic Novels list. I really enjoyed this. I had seen the film so I vaguely knew what to expect, but there were a few differences. I adore the humor and the rapport between Nimona and Ballister, and the art style is quite fun. I also quite enjoy the unique anachronistic storytelling. A good way to kick off the list (link below).
My husband and son read this together several years ago. They've been very patiently waiting for me to read it so we can watch the movie together. I ran across it yesterday while sorting through my TBR and decided today was the day! I spent my morning curled up with this and loved it.
I‘ve had my eye on this one for a few years, and a friend recently lent it to me because she loves it. It was fun seeing the way that Nimoma‘s chaotic energy helped or overshot Blackhart‘s plans, as well as how Blackhart‘s supervillain status began and the ways he ran with it. It wasn‘t a wow-me book but it was such a fun read! #LGBTQIA #Fantasy #Shapeshifter #Comic
Read this for my book club and loved it! One of my all-time fave graphic novels now! The art is beautiful and well-done; the story is unique; and there‘s a perfect blend of diverse emotions. The exploration of identity and discovery of oneself is subtle yet well-done! One of the few graphic novels or stories that shows the complexities of characters rather than as all good or all bad. I would definitely read a prequel, spin-off, or sequel to it!
Did I see this is a movie now?

Saw the Netflix movie first and really loved it! The book is good but I think I like the show more. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I read Nimona and then watched the Netflix adaptation the next day. Both are great fun and while the movie made some changes it didn‘t stray from the heart of the story.
I adore Nimona, and if you do too, you'll love these other comics and graphic novels with a similar vibe.

2023 re-read in preparation of the Netflix premiere. I curious to see what creative liberties they take with the screen version.
I read the graphic novel before watching the movie on Netflix and they were both freaking adorable! I really love adaptations where even though they changed the story a bit, they stayed true to the characters and brought them to life in a perfect way. It kept the heart of the story, which is most important ❤️
#LGBTQ2023 romance is not the focus @Kenyazero
Originally a web comic, Nimona was collected as a graphic novel--I read it in one sitting. The story is really fun and the characters are so lovable. Stevenson blends the contemporary with the medieval in humorous ways, mixing science and magic in a brisk tale of belonging. The art is simple, but visually propulsive.
Watched the movie (loved it; incredible, must watch) so I tried the book. Maybe it‘s because I did it backwards, but the GN didn‘t really stick with me as anything major. Same general story. Just different ways to portray it. Decent story, moved around quick, with diverse characters. The dynamics didn‘t always sit well with me. Very funny panels of Nimona just causing chaos. Glad this scene is still just as funny both forms.
I just watched the Netflix adaptation of Nimona and it was awesome! Loved it!!!
I‘ve got pizza, ice cream sandwiches, mint lemonade, and Nimona!
Not a bad way to spend a Saturday evening. 💖 #BookAdaptations
Watched the movie over the weekend and loved it so decided to give the book a try 😈
If you read the book... please watch the movie on Netflix! It does the book justice! It made me laugh, cry and swoon... :)
Strong bonds of friendship
Adorable characters
Laugh out loud moments
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This book started off super funny, stayed super funny, but also turned into a tender story about friendship and love. Loved it. 💜

This was a fun riff on the traditional medieval fantasy hero/villain story. Nimona is a lot of fun. The story ended up being very deep and interesting, but I would have also enjoyed more scenes of the odd couple pairing of Nimona and Blackheart.
Not my normal genre, but that was a prompt on my #Deweys24HourReadathon bingo board, so why not? I actually really like the book; it was a fun combination of science fiction and medieval tropes.

Sweet and more complex than I expected. Themes of friendship, found family, determination, self-identity, the nature of good and evil—all wrapped in a fun story! Thank you so much @Bookgoil and #litsylove!! I really enjoyed it. Also, when I finished the book was donated to a local middle school classroom.

It‘s COMICS DAY on the Gay May recs grids countdown! As per usual, this is a non-exhaustive list of great comics I urge you to check out if you want to read all/mostly/more queer stuff next month. Many are series, too, so there‘s SO MUCH HERE!
Titles highlighted below. The tagged book explores the wobbly line between good and evil, and also how awesome it is to turn into a SHARK (if you like sharks, which tbh I don‘t). #gaymay
*incoherent screaming of fangirly joy*
I thought Disney killed it! I‘m so happy I could cry! 😭

Library haul: Graphic novels, woman-written sci fi and fantasy, and DEPRESSION 🙃
4.5🌟 I've seen this recommended a bunch, and man, I see why. It had many fun moments along with a punch of feels. The art is fun, and while the magical lore of the world isn't explored in depth, it is still imaginative and rich. I read this book in one sitting, and I think I'm going to have to purchase a copy of it for my own collection.

This was a Litsy Rec from a long time ago that I never read bc it took so long to download to my phone(the only place I could see it in color). I LOVED it! I want more!!! Allll the stars!!!!!
“My name is Ballister Blackheart, but I‘m sure you know that already. You may think of me as your enemy, but I have only ever fought against the Institution, not against you. Your true enemies are the ones who have beaten you down and kept you in compliance through fear. … They took away your power. It‘s time to take it back.”
My #TopFive reads of 2020 - it was a weird reading year for me, but all of these were five star reads.
Happy New Years, everyone! And hopefully 2021 will be better 🤞
This graphic novel did it all. It made me laugh, it made me cry, it made me question the powers that be. Stunning. #bookreview #linkinbio #bookblog #loveit
This is one of my all time favorites. I love gifting it to young readers and reread it once a year! A shape-shifter wants to join up with the local villian and become a sidekick. The artwork is so cute and it executes humor, but with an emotional underside so well. I am still in love with these characters and cannot recommend it highly enough.

Getting used to working again, and boy howdy it‘s not fun. 😂
1. Yes, I think graphic novels have more description and outside narration.
2. Tagged! 👆🏻
3. I think both are great, and it really just depends on how well it fits the story.
#sundayfunday Have a great day and don‘t forget to tag me!
